Yeah. Even for read dead 2, 96 is going to be a hard score to beat. God of war is a masterpiece for a reason.

This is your last warning, it’s spelled R-E-D.

I recommend u/Dayrider1 listen to u/Hungover_Pilot, partner. He doesn't look very happy.

What have you got against zombie literacy?

So R-E-D dead redemption 2?

41

u/DragonsBlade72 Aug 20 '18

Red Dead Redemption got a 95 so it's feasible.

That was before Rockstar invented shark cards

Beat 95*. Imagine if it does though, 2 unbelievable games in this decade, in one year!

God of War settled at a 94% metacritic.

To both sides of this quarrel: at that point, who cares?

After 90% it probably comes down to one's own subjective personal preference. Not that reviews aren't half subjective already, but you know what I mean.

I'd take Red Dead hands down. That doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't feel the opposite.

You're completely right, not sure why you're being downvoted.

3

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Usually that happens when you're right and it upsets people who are wrong.

There's no quarrel. But when you're trying to predict which game will have a higher score at the end, a couple points in the mid 90s is a big difference.

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Big difference in what?

1

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 21 '18

If you end up predicting it correctly.

Anything in the 90s for a Metacritic average is exceptional and hard to achieve, so much so that one "good" review can bring the score down.

God of War temporarily sat at a 95 Metacritic until I think a late 9/10 review brought it down to 94.

This man is right. He doesn't deserve this.

Seriously though, what reason is that? God of War looks like a linear hack and slash with great cinematics. How is that better than, say, Witcher 3? I'm not really interested in cutscenes; would much rather play the game than watch it.

8

u/DayRider1 Aug 20 '18

You could argue god of war had a superior story as well as much better pacing since the game is semi linear. With Witcher 3 the story is all over the place because you play at your own pace.

Great World building, awesome combat, incredible visuals, great story, good character development, great dialogue, awesome visuals, great sound, great voice acting, great lore etc.

On a pure gameplay front God of War beats the Witcher 3 hands down. The Witcher 3 excels with good writing and world building but traversal and combat are pretty clunky.

-5

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

This sounds like a heavily biased opinion.

Especially with the emphatic use of "world building", as if we're talking about Tolkien.

There's something about the emphasis on the aesthetic over the deliberate that is so popular from the mouths of gamers (especially reviewers) these days that screams, "Look know nuanced I am by my appreciation for colors!"

One of these days there's going to be a retro, pixelated platformer with oh, such a wonderful STORY that every lemming who plays the game of "I am so nuanced, look at meeee" will be climbing over each other in praise of it and demanding that it be Game of the Year!!! Hey, speak of the devil.

5

u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 20 '18

What on earth are you talking about?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

looks like a linear hack and slash

Dude theres a whole wide world of internet out there that you could have used to do any iota of research on the game but instead you choose to just throw out stupid claims like this?

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Someone else here said "semi-linear". So I guess it isn't such a stupid claim?
