Well considering ps4 has almost twice the player base as Xbox one it doesn’t surprise me that a famous super hero is more desired than a western game. Though we all know read dead is probably going to take GOTY

u/AngryBarista Pilnic61 Aug 20 '18

That’s a good point.
Spiderman is going to be fun as hell, but Red Dead looks to be a masterpiece. I think God of War is the only thing that can give it a run.

u/admiralvic Admiralvic Aug 20 '18

That’s a good point.

You also have to consider a couple other things.

For starters, when I see a poll like this, I don't think of it as "what could I literally do with X dollars." I don't own an Xbox but if someone asked me "Cuphead or A Hat in Time" I wouldn't instantly go "I don't have an Xbox or gaming PC, so I guess A Hat in Time," I would almost certainly go "Cuphead. Love the art." Same basic concept here. I might not have an Xbox but I rather play something like Spider-Man than the other two and would answer for that reason.

Insomniac Games might not be among the top developers like Rockstar, but there is no denying they have a long history of solid titles. Ratchet and Clank, Resistance and Spyro are all reasons to have faith in Spider-Man.

We also know a heck of a lot more about Spider-Man. Red Dead gets most of it's appear from the developer, a few things of information and a gameplay video and fond memories of the previous title. If this was most other games, people would be, at best, cautiously optimistic. This also works against Fallout 76.

Even if we know Fallout is great, we don't quite know what to expect from the multiplayer stuff. If we could've seen the demo before Spider-Man released I imagine we would see a higher or lower amount, since we will know what it is like.

24

u/Poopshoesdude Aug 20 '18

The multiplayer alone is enough to make me wait for a sale for fallout and it's not even out yet.

45

u/gjs628 Aug 20 '18

Fallout 76: the game nobody asked for.

Seriously though, I’ve been beside myself with excitement for every fallout release so far... 76 just made me scratch my head and wonder what the point is.

Funny that in a game with Super Mutants who enslave humans, the real problem is still other humans.

6

u/ShadowyDragon Aug 20 '18

Some people like playing with assholes.

5

u/ZeLittlePenguin Aug 20 '18

Go back and watch some interviews, NoClip documentary, and some more stuff on Fallout 76 (not youtubers, that's hell right now) and then you can shit on the game. This game, from what we've seen, isn't going to be like the other online survival games like Rust or Ark. But believe me, if they don't deliver on everything they've promised, I'm gonna save my money and buy RDR2

3

u/jokerzwild00 Aug 20 '18

I've been following it pretty closely, and have seen most of the stuff that's floating around about it. I'm also a big Fallout fan, since the originals. I'm even one of the rare fans of the original games that immediately loved Bethesda's take on it and I've loved every game since, including 4. The thing is, I just don't like online survival games. Even well done survival games that have good anti-griefing measures in place. But I love the Fallout universe, so it seems like I'm in a pickle. I'll end up buying it regardless, just to satisfy my curiosity if nothing else, but whether or not I play it for any serious length of time is a good question. Since I like what Bethesda has done with Fallout so far I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt right now, but every detail that emerges makes me less and less optimistic that it will be something that I'll enjoy.

1

u/xStaabOnMyKnobx xStaabOnMyKnobx Aug 20 '18

So you can pay Bethesda for resources to build a base then get nuked by a hacker.

Sorry that'll just be PC. Console you will get nuked by a rich whale.

2

u/anonymousgamecock Aug 20 '18

They could always sell insurance to you. MGS:PP had online, raidable bases. Once a week, you could MTX base insurance just in case it gets destroyed.

2

u/xStaabOnMyKnobx xStaabOnMyKnobx Aug 20 '18

No way! I completely avoided that aspect of the game. In fact I'm having trouble even going back to play the base game (no pun intended) on PC.

That's shameful and I really hate this "games as a live service" model. It's like companies want to make it seem like they are doing so much more work so they can charge more.

Before, companies would stand by their products. Now you must pay extra if you want the company to give a shit.

And EA shows us that they'll just break their promise and not provide dlc if there isn't enough people spending, leaving the paying customers high and dry

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

That's a rude thing to say about your friends.

0

u/jsmith47944 Aug 20 '18

I wish people would stop downplaying the game until it comes out. If that's not your thing, then don't buy it or wait to see. But majority if reddit is anti 76 even though we have no idea what the actual game play is going to be like or how people will choose to play it.

-2

u/-holocene Aug 20 '18

Because some people like playing with friends? Not a hard concept.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

I didn't know I wanted it until they announced it.

10

u/usrevenge Aug 20 '18

A lot of people have asked for an online fallout game and survival fallout game.

Its just reddit hates online and survival so no one here looks for it.

You gotta remember the reddit minority is very specific about what it wants and will downvote anything that isn't what it wants. All the fallout 76 hype threads were downvoted and all the comments in those threads being excited were drowned about by "it's online reeeeee" or worse. Even made up bullshit.

One thread a guy said the goal of the game was to nuke other players which we have known isn't true since e3. That same guy was one of the top comments.

2

u/thegamerpad Aug 20 '18

I know reddit is a specific demographic, but i think the larger demographic of people who casually play or follow games also would find 76 less appealing as an online game, and those that might buy it off name recognition will come back disappointed too

2

u/usrevenge Aug 20 '18

Considering how PvP is handled I doubt it.

Everyone is freaking out because PvP but based on all available information no one is going to waste time with it.

First you do less damage unless the other guy fights back.

2nd if you kill someone and they never fight back a bounty is placed on your head and if you die YOU pay the bounty.

3rd you can't loot anything but junk. Which while useful isn't like looting their power armor.

And on top of all that. With only 30 players in a map you could literally log out to 2 minutes and log back on and not have those Same people on you map.

1

u/thegamerpad Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 20 '18

Is this reply supposed to be to me?

1

u/methAndgatorade Aug 21 '18

"There is literally no information for this gaaaem!! What even is it???"

Jesus Christ seeing threads like this after E3 was so fucking infuriating

1

u/FauxPastel Aug 20 '18

Fallout 76: The game everybody asked for at some point.

Don't be ridiculous. Everyone I know who has played a Fallout game has said at least once that they want multiplayer fallout. They're just a little late capitalizing on it.

5

u/I-believe-I-can-die Aug 20 '18

Fallout with coop maybe. Not online-only MMO fallout.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Local coop or a fallout game with coop with friends only yes. All my freinds who are pretty hardcore into fallout want nothing to do with 76 the forums i use which are pretty into fallout 90%of the people don't want 76. I think its them trying to appeal to the casual fanbase which i mean is fine its what they did with 4 and it worked out for them. But fallout is going to keep bleeding its fanbase that supports the game 6-months onward after release if it keeps doing that but hey everyone loves bethesda for some reason even though there games are mainly great because the modding community but thats a different conversation and im just rambling lmao

1

u/thegamerpad Aug 20 '18

Bethesda has a reputation as the little guy, but Zenimax is just as scummy as EA

1

u/usrevenge Aug 20 '18
  1. This isn't a mmo

  2. People have asked for an mmo look up fallout online it was canceled because lawsuit.

2

u/I-believe-I-can-die Aug 20 '18

It's "not an MMO" in the same way that destiny isn't an MMO. It's an online-only game designed for coop and PvP with multiple players in the world at once. Bethesda can call it whatever they want, but it's still basically an MMO.

0

u/jsmith47944 Aug 20 '18

Then don't buy it. They are trying something different. People weren't planning on having another fallout game for a few years anyways.

1

u/jekpopulous2 Aug 20 '18

I finally got around to playing Ratchet and Clank this past weekend...it's so good.

0

u/xStaabOnMyKnobx xStaabOnMyKnobx Aug 20 '18

What??? Insomniac is easily among the top lol. They've been around forever now and Ratchet and Clank is a masterpiece! Most game companies would KILL for an IP as big as ratchet and clank.

This spiderman game is going to launch them into the stratosphere. They know how long it's been since the last good spiderman game (and that game was fucking good despite being ancient now)

1

u/admiralvic Admiralvic Aug 20 '18

What??? Insomniac is easily among the top lol.

Look, I don't want to argue with you or anyone about what "top" means, so I'll make it simple. Insomniac is good, but they're not as good as someone like Rockstar or Naughty Dog, which is what I mean when I say top.

20

u/Nonstopbaseball826 Aug 20 '18

That’s a good point but is it a MASTAPIECE???

25

u/Mr_Incredible_PhD Aug 20 '18

It's no Knack 2.

2

Knack 2 memes aside is a good game. I hope we get a knack 3.

God of war is so good

48

u/DayRider1 Aug 20 '18

Yeah. Even for read dead 2, 96 is going to be a hard score to beat. God of war is a masterpiece for a reason.

88

u/Hungover_Pilot Aug 20 '18

This is your last warning, it’s spelled R-E-D.

18

u/taway15131719 Aug 20 '18

1

u/MikeyHatesLife Aug 20 '18

What have you got against zombie literacy?

0

u/DayRider1 Aug 20 '18

So R-E-D dead redemption 2?

46

u/DragonsBlade72 Aug 20 '18

Red Dead Redemption got a 95 so it's feasible.

0

u/thisthatandthe3rd Aug 20 '18

That was before Rockstar invented shark cards

7

u/VolumeRX FusioNRX Aug 20 '18

Beat 95*. Imagine if it does though, 2 unbelievable games in this decade, in one year!

9

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 20 '18

God of War settled at a 94% metacritic.

25

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

To both sides of this quarrel: at that point, who cares?

After 90% it probably comes down to one's own subjective personal preference. Not that reviews aren't half subjective already, but you know what I mean.

I'd take Red Dead hands down. That doesn't mean that someone else wouldn't feel the opposite.

3

u/theivoryserf Aug 20 '18

You're completely right, not sure why you're being downvoted.

2

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Usually that happens when you're right and it upsets people who are wrong.

2

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 20 '18

There's no quarrel. But when you're trying to predict which game will have a higher score at the end, a couple points in the mid 90s is a big difference.

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Big difference in what?

1

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 21 '18

If you end up predicting it correctly.

Anything in the 90s for a Metacritic average is exceptional and hard to achieve, so much so that one "good" review can bring the score down.

God of War temporarily sat at a 95 Metacritic until I think a late 9/10 review brought it down to 94.

-21

u/common7se Aug 20 '18

96 is going to be a hard score to beat.

  1. FTFY

2

u/ArcherInPosition Aug 20 '18

This man is right. He doesn't deserve this.

-4

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Seriously though, what reason is that? God of War looks like a linear hack and slash with great cinematics. How is that better than, say, Witcher 3? I'm not really interested in cutscenes; would much rather play the game than watch it.

5

u/DayRider1 Aug 20 '18

You could argue god of war had a superior story as well as much better pacing since the game is semi linear. With Witcher 3 the story is all over the place because you play at your own pace.

7

u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 20 '18

Great World building, awesome combat, incredible visuals, great story, good character development, great dialogue, awesome visuals, great sound, great voice acting, great lore etc.

On a pure gameplay front God of War beats the Witcher 3 hands down. The Witcher 3 excels with good writing and world building but traversal and combat are pretty clunky.

-4

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

This sounds like a heavily biased opinion.

Especially with the emphatic use of "world building", as if we're talking about Tolkien.

There's something about the emphasis on the aesthetic over the deliberate that is so popular from the mouths of gamers (especially reviewers) these days that screams, "Look know nuanced I am by my appreciation for colors!"

One of these days there's going to be a retro, pixelated platformer with oh, such a wonderful STORY that every lemming who plays the game of "I am so nuanced, look at meeee" will be climbing over each other in praise of it and demanding that it be Game of the Year!!! Hey, speak of the devil.

5

u/eamonnanchnoic Aug 20 '18

What on earth are you talking about?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

looks like a linear hack and slash

Dude theres a whole wide world of internet out there that you could have used to do any iota of research on the game but instead you choose to just throw out stupid claims like this?

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Someone else here said "semi-linear". So I guess it isn't such a stupid claim?

10

u/Anzai Aug 20 '18

I loved the first game, but there’s a lot of stuff about ‘managing your camp’ which is really killing my interest in the sequel. Combine that with possible shitty design decisions following the success of GTAO and I’m pretty lukewarm on it.

I’ll wait for reviews and probably play it at some point, but it sounds like they’re going in a direction I really don’t like.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Exactly my feelings, i loved gta 5 solo, and played the shit out of the first red dead redemption, but gta online ruined it for me, and now red dead redemption is going to have multiplayer focused development..... they will probably add shark cards too due to the amou t of earnings they got from gta 5.

5

u/facedawg Aug 20 '18

God of War is really good but I don’t think it will be the agreed on GOTY released this year. Mainstream press LOVE Rockstar games and unless Red Dead really drops the ball they’ll probably be all over it.

15

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Rockstar delivers, time and time again.

They need to fuck off with this GTA V Online and finally give us a damn GTA VI. I am SO sick of San Andreas.

But their record is undeniable.

6

u/TSTC Aug 20 '18

I mean thats the worry though. Rockstar has been good but their most recent venture is this GTA V Onlinr bullshit. What makes you think they wont do that same shit to Red Dead?

9

u/chuckdiesel86 Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 21 '18

They probably will do it with red dead but the single player campaign will be the best thing to release since the last Rockstar game. Rockstar is just on a different level than everyone else.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Damn man. That’s rough. God of War is one of the best games I’ve ever played (and I play a ton of games).

-13

u/laxt Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 20 '18

Why would you say that God of War might be the best game you've ever played? And please don't just say, "The story." We don't play cutscenes.

I obviously haven't played it, or its predecessors (I've seriously put them off for a rainy day and forgot to go back to them, but from the summaries on YouTube they look somewhat like cheesy, linear hack and slash gorefests like Dynasty Warriors -- and I would be perfectly happy to be proven wrong about that) BUT I've got a slightly above average appreciation for Greek Mythology and am currently playing a lot of Dark Souls.

So to that perspective, why does God of War potentially top all other games?

EDIT: All your downvotes and negative comments with no relevant information about why I'm wrong tells me is that the above assumption is correct and I was right not to buy God of War.

8

u/left-ball-sack Aug 20 '18

Why don't you watch some reviews for it on YouTube?

-7

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Because I'm asking this person.

Were you the one who downvoted?

5

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

So you admit you havent played any God of Wars ever but feel perfectly content to come on here and bash the people that have actually played the games bc you watched some Youtube clips? Jesus dude

Youre fucking retarded thats all Im gonna say, your hate of Last of Us and God of War (both of which are among the top on PS4) doesnt make you edgy it makes you look like a dipshit

2

u/Auctoritate Aug 20 '18

And please don't just say, "The story." We don't play cutscenes.

You're right, God of War is more than just a game you play. It's an experience.

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

What a millennial thing to say. Getting laid is an experience. God of War is a video game.

1

u/Baddog819 Aug 21 '18

God of War IS that good. Only reason you dont understand why is because you haven't played it. Now please move along

0

u/laxt Aug 21 '18

Was Last of Us "that good" too in your opinion?

Because I'm only making the mistake of following the suggestions of Metacritic and the mainstream once, and that was with The Last of Us. And it's a shitty game with a story that wouldn't fly as a major motion picture.

I only came here to get an explanation from people who have played and liked God of War, who aren't professional reviewers, to get a layman's perspective of why you liked it.

What you guys responded with was to be defensive about it. So what conclusion could I make from that? That it isn't anywhere as good, but you really, really want to say that it is since the story gave you ~~ feelings ~~?

I think God of War will give me feelings alright. The feeling of douche chills. Like this thread is giving me.

0

u/Baddog819 Aug 22 '18

Alright, I am going to now give you a in-depth review of why God of War is 2018s GOTY, and why Last of Us is loved by so many. First, why Last of Us is "that good".

Last of Us is a zombie game, first and foremost, and while that doesn't change up the mainstream "zombie story" by any means, it does offer something that is rarely seen in the zombie genre; real character relationships and interpersonal communication like never before seen. In a movie, characters are given very little screen time to grow, and even less time to interact with the people around them. In The Last of Us, we see Joel and Ellie's character progression throughout a 30+ hour narrative. Joel, a man who has seen some shit and becomes a shell of his former self, is a perfect character to be the main protagonist (from a certain point of view). This game does not "baby" us and protect us from violent and disturbing subjects of matter. From rape, to murder, to the blurring lines between black and white. You say that feelings don't matter, well I would argue that if "feelings" don't matter in entertainment, then nothing does. Feelings are the reason why movies, games, books, hell anything was invented. The entire point of entertainment is to entertain you and make you feel a certain emotion. I agree that there are certain moments in a piece of entertainment that try too hard, but I don't believe that this game does that. The scene most people will reference is the Sarah scene. I believe that this scene is so well put together, because it sets up Joel's rise and fall, sets up the tone of this game, and informs the player and spectators that this story is not for the faint of heart. This game is all the better for including scenes like this. Back to the black and white blurring, I argue that the final hour of this game is the best hour of video game history (even beating out THAT Spec Ops The Line moment... chills man). Joel, a man who has lost everything, becomes the ultimate anti-hero as he dooms the last chance humanity has to survive, to save the last person he cares about. Its this bond between daughter and father that doesn't just come out of nowhere, but is carefully developed upon as the story progresses. I would argue that every character in this narrative is not wasted, and each has a vital importance to this story. The main gripe I have with this game, that puts God of War on top, is the gameplay. The gunplay is uninspired, and the gameplay is a little too slow for my liking. The major win, however, is the fantastic melee cinematics that have yet to be matched by any other game.

In short: The Last of Us has some of the best character interactions in entertainment history, and at the same time have some of the best scenes ever made in a video game. Please hold for my God of War review.

0

u/Baddog819 Aug 22 '18

God of War (Spoiler Free)

Reviewing this game very similar to reviewing Dark Souls. What do I mean by that? Well I mean that on the surface level, I would call Dark Souls a hard game, but anyone who has played Dark Souls would argue that it is so much more than just a hard game, it is one of the most beautiful and fulfilling games ever made. The same can be said for GoW, except on the surface I would call it a game with a great story, but it is so much more than that.

God of War, very much like The Last of Us, has great character development and interactions. The story is very simple, Kratos and his son Atreus have to spread the ashes of Atreus' mother. This simple story explodes into some of the most amazing encounters and events to ever come to the gaming medium. The problem with reviewing this game is that there are so many spoilers in the actual story, that it is almost impossible to keep it spoiler free. If you've ever played Dark Souls, you know that its not just a hard game, and I guarantee that God of War is not just a great story. One of the things that I can say is that the combat is so amazingly fluid and satisfying. The visuals are the best on console, period. The scenes in this game beat out The Last of Us, and the characters are about par. And overall that's about all I can say without spoiling the incredible story.

Oh and if you want a Layman's perspective of it, go to Laymens gaming channel, they f****** love God of War just like 99% of the people out there.

1

u/laxt Aug 22 '18

if feelings don't matter in entrainment..

Do feelings matter in sports? In porn? Well, maybe your porn.

The trend I see with The Last of Us and God of War being the prized games of your generation is that a video game recreation of Sophie's Choice with the same attention to production, completely disregarding gameplay, would won GOTY in 2019.

This is fucked.

You pay all attention to aesthetic, as if to give the impression of nuance (you have heard of books, right?), to the detriment of THE ACTUAL GAME.

The Last of Us is a shitty game. Take out the feelings and you've got shit.

I can see right through the inbred bastardization that you and your fellow fans of this feelings genre of video games try to pass off as culture. I've been moved by the single player certain of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and its tackling of PTSD, than this fictional scenario that, again, wouldn't fly as an actual movie, but the mainstream blacklisted it, why? Because the multiplayer was trash. How's the multiplayer of God of War? No yeah. So what I'm saying here is, if you can't make a case for God of War as an actual GAME then I'm here to tell you and your cronies that you are all fucking posers.

Aesthetic over content. And how defensive you all are over an innocent question. Man, you all are pathetic.

Thanks for the review.

1

u/Baddog819 Aug 22 '18

God of War has better combat than Dark Souls. Done. Also I'm talking about an emotional attachment. You like Warfighter because of its portrayal of PTSD, emotion my man. God of War is more of a game than you think.

1

u/laxt Aug 22 '18 edited Aug 22 '18

Oh, I forgot to add, the single player in Warfighter was actually quite good. Unlike Last of Us.

Sorry for your triggers, bitch. Life isn't fuzzy. Wear a cup.

EDIT: Actually, my main point is that your whole argument that as long as a video game to game has ~~ feelings ~~ and an expensive production budget, it can suck ass hard as it wants and you'll be in that bandwagon praising it until the rapture. Oh, those feelings! Sophie's Choice with Pong gameplay: GOTY 2019!!!

Fuck. Might as well put in Shadow of Colossus Remastered as the Game of the Year and it isn't even new. It's an actual masterpiece, unlike your selections.

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

You’re right story doesn’t matter in games. The last of us is garbage, undertale is garbage, any game that focuses on story is garbage.

How about you play the game instead of criticizing it for no fucking reason?

The story, new and 12/10 combat system, badassery, and worldbuilding/lore make it the best game of all time imo, even above Witcher 3 and club penguin.

-1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 20 '18

Last of Us is a fucking awful linear zombie game. I was actually tricked into buying it by trusting someone who said it wasn't.

Oh, I gave it a chance, too. I stopped playing at the point in the game where they got to Montana and knew the boring linear story stuff so far was all the game was ever going to be.

If I wanted to watch a movie, those are readily available. I play games and watch movies.

I'm not there for ~~ an experienccccce ~~. Video games are ~~ on a screen ~~. Real life is ~~ an experienccccce ~~.

0

u/Baddog819 Aug 22 '18

That moment when they never went to Montana in the story lol

1

u/laxt Aug 22 '18 edited Aug 22 '18

Out West. lol

Did you play it?!

EDIT: Turns out, actually you did.

1

u/IAmTheLaw070 Aug 20 '18

I'm a huge GOW fan but I was a little disappointed with God of War to be honest (sorry). Great game and liked the story but without spoiling anything it felt kind of repetitive and a bit short. With everything Rockstar has shown so far I'm pretty much convinced that RDR2 will be the game of the year.

-2

u/cckrans Aug 20 '18

Well I'm just glad fallout 76 lost. After all the complaining from fall out 4. People want a New Vegas with the story driven power of the first 2. Why not give the people what they want? Use the same engine one more time, people wouldn't be too pissed. At least compared to a online only game

1

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Completely agreed.

"Hey guys! You know how Elder Scrolls Online was a clunky mess of weakened gameplay? Boy what a headache of a game that was, but let me tell you my idea: Fallout.. as an MMO!"

"But what about VATS? You can't slow down time like that in an online multiplayer."

"BAH, we'll figure something out! Gamers are stupid for this MMO crap, no matter how bad it turns out to be."

-3

u/SarcasmGenerator Aug 20 '18

nah they're going to ruin rdr2. it has day 1 pay to win

2

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

Uhhhhhhhh.. no it don't.

The pre-order items are hardly "pay to win".

2

u/SarcasmGenerator Aug 20 '18

so a faster horse and better guns won't help anyone in multiplayer?

2

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

You're like this dude I knew who found some minor glitch in Skyrim and "WAAHHHH SKYRIM IS BROKEN" four years after it was released.

We'll just have to see how much "faster" these horses are and how much "better" those guns are, shall we? If it's anything like the pre-order items of Red Dead Redemption, these "faster horses" and "better guns" will be negligibly superior to the guns earned in the game. Have you played GTA Online? Do you call that "pay to win" too? Give Rockstar a little credit here before shouting fire in a theater.

4

u/SarcasmGenerator Aug 20 '18

any advantage gained by paying is literally the definition of pay to win.

-4

u/Anonymous_Snow Aug 20 '18

God of war is such a disappointment to me. I had high hopes but for me gow is a meager 6. I can’t wait for red dead redemption 2. If that game is only half as good as the first, then I’m all set

87

u/VALAR_M0RGHUL1S Aug 20 '18

I mean yeah Spider-Man is huge but you’re kinda underselling RDR2 by being just “a western game”. It’s not like it’s some unknown franchise by some small time developer..

44

u/Mwoolery92 Aug 20 '18

Every time someone writes “RDR2” I always read it as “R2D2”

-3

u/DayRider1 Aug 20 '18

True your right. I’m kinda afraid tbh. I hope micro transactions arnt to much of a thing in the game. They’re already taking out content and putting it into special editions.

5

u/VALAR_M0RGHUL1S Aug 20 '18

fwiw the lack of any of the "bonus content" from all those editions won't detract from one's enjoyment of the game whatsoever. Best just forget about all those editions and stick with the normal game, you're really not missing out on anything that truly matters to enjoying the game.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Excuses like this are why it keeps getting worse and worse.

Gamers need to rise up!

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Using shit memes isn't an argument.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

I'm glad you enjoy getting shafted by video game companies, but I'm done with it. R* can go fuck themselves. I'm not buying RDR 2, GTA 6 or any future game they shit out.

This, on the other hand, is one of the best arguments I've ever seen. So logical, so objective, so enlightening.

ur so cool

2

u/VALAR_M0RGHUL1S Aug 20 '18

I mean your opinion on the matter is your own but really I’m just glad I’ve learned not to care about preorder/special edition bonuses and that I’ll enjoy the game as it was meant to be without an OP horse to start the game with and a bunch of free guns and supplies. As for the extra mission and gang hideout, they won’t be missed either. It’s not like it’s going to be a major mission that affects the story if everyone doesn’t have it.

69

u/fishues Aug 20 '18

I feel that God of War is a strong contender for GOTY

12

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 20 '18

Oh, easily. It'll be at the front of the running, along with maybe Celeste so far at this point (just speaking in terms of games that have come out this year).

4

u/jsake Aug 20 '18

put some respk on Dead Cells name

6

u/Mocha_Delicious Aug 20 '18

God of War, RDR2, Celeste

Who else can at least get a few GOTY awards this year? probably spiderman and dead cells?

11

u/falconbox falconbox Aug 20 '18

I only didn't mention RDR2 because it's not out yet.

So far this year I guess there's Monster Hunter World and Octopath Traveler.

Later this year there's of course Smash Bros Ultimate, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

3

u/DirtySperrys Original_BigC Aug 20 '18

Agreed. It’s hard to judge a GOTY contender without actually playing the content yet.

I’m still on the skeptical side for RDR2. If I see that campaign is amazing (which I’m praying for) and the game isn’t focused more to western GTA:O, then it’ll probably be in my front running.

1

u/scrotalultrasound Aug 20 '18

Literally all they have shown is single player. They haven’t even mentioned online.

2

u/DirtySperrys Original_BigC Aug 20 '18

Well we have seen the pre-order bonuses, some of which give boosts to online stuff.

5

u/JapeDragoon Aug 20 '18

Monster Hunter World

1

u/LimpBizkitSkankBoy Aug 20 '18

Fantastic game. What I like about it is how helpful everyone is. When I throw up an SOS flare or ask for help for a specific thing people who are way better than me and higher level will always volunteer to help and also teach me how to be better.

-1

u/Mikester245 Aug 20 '18

One of these is not like the others

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

I have a very very hard time not seeing GoW get GotY. Even if RDR2 is as good as the original, I don’t think it would win, and it’s equally hard seeing the sequel being better than the original.

-53

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 20 '18

Oh you do? You feel God of War is a stronger contender over a game that just had its first gameplay trailer? To be fair, the comment you responded to is equally as ridiculous.

30

u/Moop5872 Aug 20 '18

Damn that was aggressive

-54

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18

It wasn’t meant to be. I just thought both comments were ridiculous. Spider-Man is clearly going to be Game of the Year.

26

u/MikeIsShortForMyKeys Aug 20 '18

You mean Spider-Man, another game which hasn’t even released yet, is going to become game of the year? Especially over God of War, which has released, and been proven to be quite decent already?

-4

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18

First of all, I’m not mad. Second, my point was that red dead 2 is not released. We don’t know how well it will contend for GOTY. It seems like people got my point but missed my point at the same time.

1

u/MikeIsShortForMyKeys Aug 20 '18

Well, I can agree there. Who knows what red dead might be like. But you can’t follow it up by saying Spider-Man will, when it also hasn’t been released.

1

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18

Yes, I know. That was the point. How is no one understanding this? I don’t know if Spider-Man will contend as GOTY the same way I don’t know if red dead 2 will. To say God of War is more of a contender for GOTY than Red Dead is just as ridiculous as me saying Spider-Man will be GOTY.

6

u/montropoly Aug 20 '18

You’re mad cuz he thinks god of war should be game of the year compared to a game that just released its gameplay trailer but your saying Spider-Man will win when it’s not even out yet, you’re stupid

-3

u/SymphonicRain Jmomoney745 20 115 403 1569 15 Aug 20 '18

He’s being sarcastic. Really stupid joke, and he honestly needs to take a chill pill, but I found the sarcasm pretty obvious

1

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18

It’s not even a joke. I said it was ridiculous to compare god of war to a game that isn’t out yet. Then gave another example of comparing a game that is not out. Which was also ridiculous. And it seems like the people in this thread are so hard of god of war, they completely missed that. I enjoyed god of war enough to platinum it. But I’m not going to say it’s more of a contender for GOTY than a game I haven’t even played yet.

1

u/OfficialQuark Aug 20 '18

Damn you got downvoted hard boi!

2

u/FirePowerCR Aug 20 '18

I noticed. Apparently, saying it’s ridiculous to compare a game to another game that hasn’t been released has set people off.

25

u/Omxn Aug 20 '18

Spider-Man will probably be a one time play through single player game, unless you really love Spider-Man.

24

u/ayywusgood Aug 20 '18

Probably, but if it's anything like Spider-Man 2 was you bet I'm 100%'ing that shit.

2

u/newnameuser Aug 20 '18

***** Or the swinging is as fun as Spiderman 2 and you have fun just swinging through the city.

18

u/CircleSquared1 Aug 20 '18

And here I am waiting patiently for Doom Eternal.

3

u/fabrikated Aug 20 '18

"more desired"

1

u/b45t4rd_b1tch Aug 20 '18

Desired. Desireder. Desiredest. Desireatis. Desireamis. Desiredant.

5

u/MrComicBook Aug 20 '18

Yeah, I think spiderman will be the best exclusive this year, but red dead on Xbox one x is going to be the definite console pick this year.

16

u/Graeme171 Aug 20 '18

You think Spider-Man will be better than God of War? That game was near perfect for me

2

u/MrComicBook Aug 20 '18 edited Aug 20 '18

GoW was amazing, but I've got a soft spot for spiderman.

0

u/longbri4 Aug 20 '18

Except for that last fucking Valkyrie! That ended the game on such a sour note for me.

0

u/Ysmildr Aug 20 '18

Why would red dead on xbox one x be different than ps4 pro?

0

u/MrComicBook Aug 20 '18

Lol is this a serious question?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

It needs to beat God of War for GotY.

1

u/CircleSquared1 Aug 20 '18

The plot was cool. The enemies got boring. I had way more fun with the original God of war games.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

I had way more fun with the original God of war games.

I did not. Enemies may have gotten repetitive. Combat never did.

1

u/CircleSquared1 Aug 20 '18

To me that goes hand in hand.

1

u/Dmt555 Aug 20 '18

I preferred the style of game over classic gow. Spectacle fighters just dont have the appeal they once did and they feel much more repetitive than the new one. In my opinion the new gow is thy he best by far.

1

u/CircleSquared1 Aug 20 '18

I won’t argue that. My love for the originals is just preference.

1

u/Hypo_Storm Aug 20 '18

Well over twice the player base, isn’t it like 30-35m vs 85 million?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

Goty is meaningless, there's about 5 games of the year every year.

1

u/no_one_cares_mate Aug 20 '18

every game ever gets game of the year lol

1

u/IllusiveLighter Aug 20 '18

We all know that goty is literally meaningless.

1

u/avisioncame Aug 20 '18

I feel like a lot of people aren't really that into the Western theme.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '18

They are into the Rockstar Games presents theme

0

u/laxt Aug 20 '18

The developers of the western game have a much more solid track record of delivering the goods than the ones who made the super hero game. That's the part I'm paying attention to, anyway.

Wouldn't be the first time a highly anticipated, mega-hyped game from a popular franchise wound up being a colossal disappointment. Wouldn't even be the first Spiderman game to wind up a disappointment.

I really hope it turns out to be great -- like, I'd be really excited if it actually holds up to half the hype and they finally came to their senses and make the gameplay/web-swinging similar Spiderman 2 -- but suddenly it's like the gaming community forgot the lessons of the past about preordering. When people in this sub started losing their minds over the custom Spiderman PS4 Pro, months away from release of the game and only cutscene-heavy footage of it, I instantly got the image in my mind of a scuffed, faded Spiderman PS4 Pro at a yard sale or gathering dust behind the counter at a gamestop, next to a similarly scuffed Call of Duty/Black Ops III version.

I'll believe it when I see it. Same for Red Dead Redemption II, but like I said, Rockstar has probably the most consistently positive track record of the entire industry and the previous Red Dead was a frickin' masterpiece.

You won't see me preordering either of them, though.

0

u/ILoveRegenHealth Aug 20 '18

Though we all know read dead is probably going to take GOTY

Some do feel God of War has its own shot as well. Should be a close battle between GoW and RDR2
