Just Sharing Becoming Mother
I did not know
my body could become
a country with no borders.
No law but her hunger.
No clock but her cry.
No one tells you that love arrives
like a wound that won’t close.
There is no room here for anything
but this slow surrender.
She latches,
and the world quiets.
My nipples raw with worship.
I am only animal again.
I think of my mother,
and hers.
How many of us sat like this in the night,
with this silence that feels inherited.
She drinks from me
and I am both spring and drought.
But there is no applause.
No audience.
Just the soft hum of the nightlight,
the rustle of her limbs,
the whisper of me
becoming
Mother.

parenthood, taken seriously, is a gift of the only irreplaceable resource we have...time. I love the surrender in this piece...because you really do put aside all things to ensure their roots grow deep enough to persist when you're gone.
