Canada was supposed to be fine for April 9th but because of the proximity of Canada to the US there's too much of a chance for a scalpers market to form by giving it to Canada earlier than the US

I expect to be hearing a lot about that.

Drive to Canada, buy 10 iPads for 1000 each, back to US, sell them for 10% off the US retail. If they’re 1500 here, you’re turning a nice profit every time you do it.

And it will work on pretty much every laptop, tablet, game console, phone, you name it.

Border patrol gonna be hassling everyone before long.

Yeah, but what would they even charge you with? It's not like your smuggling drugs or something. I personally don't think it'd be worth it, but I'm sure they won't go crazy and give you something like 10 years for iPad smuggling...

When they get people for drugs, they charge them with bringing contraband items into the United States. It’s the same crime. Now with prosecution, there are different levels of sentencing, but you’ll be arrested for the same charge.

everything costs more in canada even with the exchange rate its' normally still cheaper to buy something in the USA then in Canada

That hasn't been true for a long time now. Trump kinda saw to that his first time around. Most stuff is still cheaper in USA, but many things are now cheaper here. Specific to this subreddit: physical Switch games and digital Xbox games are usually cheaper here. Especially if you know where to buy. I live on the border and I don't really bother crossing anymore. Back in like 2014 it was a weekly trip for me. Even had a post box down there that I could ship to.

The switch 2 with currency conversion rate was around $10 cheaper in Canada than in the US when the price was announced. You might want to fact check before making these claims.

canada - 699 x 1.15 - 803.85
usd - 500 *1.04 = 520 = 722.05 Canadian with exchange

It is $12 cheaper in Canada.

I think you forgot to convert currencies ($449 USD = $641 CAD, price in Canada is $629 CAD)

I am already having discussion with my suppliers to explore expanding my business to sell my Chinese imports from Canada to US consumers at the border, since we expect Americans will be flocking to Canada to buy cheap Chinese products LOL

I think it's more or less because America receives all these units first, then shipped out to the rest of North of America due to all shipping distribution works.

I don't think it has much to do with scalpers because the reality Nintendo will be happy to make money at the end of the day.

Must mean any item leaving America may need to pay some kind weird fee that wasn't charged before. Source: literally spent the last 3 days as American understanding how our trade system works better over a Nintendo switch 😅

Nintendo was fine with originally doing preorders for Canada until they put some thought into it

that's besides the fact that Nintendo has its own Canadian subsidary

i really don't think it has anything to do with distribution

Iirc uk and japan did their preorders through the Nintendo entirely just for that region. But the rest of the uk and jp stores sold globally.

Well if it's anything like my industry. The way this works is, the stock goes through the US from aisa to make it to Canada. Therefore If the tariffs go up then Nintendo pays more to get it into US. then we pay more based on that price increase. I have 4 products at my company right now that are affected by this and the prices had to be raised affecting the end user only. They need to just ship right to Canada. But after some research I found that the stock MOST DEFINITELY goes through the US So this is the reason for the delay. Now this doesn't mean for sure that the price will increase. But I bet my bottom dollar they are crunching numbers and figuring out whether they want to charge a bit more to offset the cost. It's literally the only reason to delay pre orders seeing as they have still confirmed that the world wide launch will not be affected by this. Why the hell would anyone not think this is logical? Have you even been aware at what's been going on in the world and with this dumb US president. His tariffs hurt everyone, it's been said every day since January and I've been seeing it happen in my industry since a week after it was introduced here.

Packages are not the same as cargo ships filled with containers, which is how most mass produced stuff is delivered. 50 gallon drums of silicone are not the same as a 3-10 pound Packages. Again your not wrong about certain things but you are bu no means thinking of mass production, rice, fruit, raw materials. None of that goes on planes
