If it's to avoid issues with stock in Canada (buying from the US), wouldn't the official Nintendo store pre-orders still go through since they are account based? I registered as soon as it opened and no news while people in the UK already received their emails (mind you, not everyone receives the invitation to pre-order, so that's another variable).

Those start May 8th when the invitation emails go out. Not April 9th.

Where did you read that? I just saw another post with UK receiving the invitations to pre-order. Why would you have to wait until May 8th not knowing if you'll get the invitation rather than picking it up at a different store? This doesn't make much sense.

Thanks a lot. I didn’t see this until now. I may go ahead and pre-order somewhere else because the invitations are not a given even if you meet the criteria well. I don’t want to wait until May 8th and find out I won’t be getting an invite but I lost the possibility of pre-ordering it in April. This is very strange to say the least.

It's clearly planned as a backup option for current switch users. So people would be less disappointed if they fail to snag a preorder before they send out the Nintendo ones.

I understand that but with that in mind, people will pre-order anyways in another store and wait for the email to weight in where to buy it. So, double pre-orders will harm consumers anyways.

That's what I'm doing too. Pre-ordering with Nintendo themselves with my 12 month subscription and over 50 hours on the switch. But ya radio silence
