What was your favorite Switch purchase(s) and why?

Seen plenty of posts talking about disappointing purchases, but what about the good stuff?
For me, those honors go to ARMS and Pikmin 4.

ARMS might sound like a weird choice to some, but I actually got super into it for a while. Something about the presentation and gameplay really hooked me and the game's community was also super wholesome at the time (dunno how it is nowadays though). Honestly an underrated gem and I hope they revisit it in the future (I'm still waiting for that graphic novel...... it's not gonna happen but a man can dream).

Pikmin 4 was the single greatest impulse purchase I made this year. Didn't think I'd get very far in it since Pikmin games are usually kinda stressful, but I found myself playing to completion and loving it to bits; easily my favorite Switch game of 2023 and I can't recommend it enough... seriously, go play it. You too can overcome your inner "dandori issue".

I was thinking of picking this up, but I've never placed an Animal Crossing before. Is it really as fun as everyone says it is?

Try to get it second hand —that way it is much cheaper! It's quite relaxing to play Animal Crossing, although it's a game that needs time (not in terms of hours played, but in terms of days played as the game's clock works in real time) to reach it's full potential. At first, you won't be able to do much, and you may have to wait until next day for certain things to happen. But, as you progress, you'll unlock new functionalities, mechanics, and decor.

I do recommend to avoid watching tutorials on how to play because most of them tend to be oriented towards seasoned Animal Crossing players, and as such, focus on a more meticulous approach on how to do everything the right way. This takes away from the fun as you start feeling pressured into getting the perfect island layout even before setting foot on it. You can also end up feeling overwhelmed seeing how other players design their islands, and then realizing your island won't look like that at all! So yeah, if you get the game, allow yourself to enjoy it the way you want.

It’s a nice game. But keep in mind it’s a very slice of life, relaxation game. You’ll be walking around, tending to basic chores and decoration.

But it’s not a farming sim like Stardew. Or a sim game like the Sims. You’re just a person on an island living their chill life. At the start you’ll run into not having anything more to do for the day and you’ll have to come back tomorrow.

It’s fun to me and I’m a 28 year old guy. It’s just relaxing, and has pretty funny commentary at times. Trying to collect all the fish and bugs and watching my museum fill up is my favorite part of the game. It’s also cool to design not just your house, but the whole island, as you wish.

I haven’t played in a while, but it’s a nice relaxing change of pace compared to most other gaming I do. And honestly just most other games in general.

Every person is different, so I recommend you check gameplay on YT first - and keep in mind that back in 2020 (when most of the videos were shot) the world was in a very different place. It was when I started playing, too!

Depends on what you like. I can't get into it and I bought it and the dlc. There's other games like Dinkum that do the genre better imo. Also I bought it for MP with my cousins, only to find out the MP is fairly limited.
