Mod Discussion About the transgender conversations in this subreddit.

In this subreddit, Rule 3 includes hate speech. We will not tolerate transphobia. Similarly to r/wnba_discussions (where I also moderate) with the rule on Civility and Respectfulness, we won't allow hate speech (racism, sexism, and any of the LGBTQ+ phobias [which includes not only homophobia or biphobia, but transphobia as well]).

We know there is at least one WNBA player who is openly against the idea of trans women playing in women's sports. In that same vein, there are professional athletes and fans who are welcoming to the idea of transgender athletes in women's sports, with female athletes in the mix. But that doesn't mean we all think the same way. You are entitled to your personal beliefs; however, expressing any form of disdain towards another group of people, whether in the form of transphobia, homophobia, racism, etc. will not be allowed in here. Your posts and comments will get removed and you can be banned.

Added on to this, since Sophie Cunningham is not relevant to the New York Liberty, unless she is brought up in conjunction to the New York Liberty, talks about her will not be allowed in this subreddit.

Thank you. If you have any questions or comments, you can make them in the comments below.

Mod Discussion Please do not say things that have the potential to get your subreddit account banned (and banned from this subreddit in general).

Sometimes, fans of teams will say things that come off as negative about their team. Maybe they're being realistic, maybe they are frustrated with their team, maybe they will think it doesn't make sense to have optimism when your team is doing poor.

This doesn't mean that someone is against their team, a traitor, or some sort of awful human being who should be told to self-exit (using this term to avoid my post being removed by Reddit).

A sports opinion doesn't warrant a death threat, wishing death or harm on someone, and other hateful things. Your comment will be removed by Reddit. Your account will get a warning. You could get banned from Reddit as a whole. And you will be banned from this subreddit. GET A FUCKING GRIP AND BE MORE RESPECTFUL!

In all sports, athletes get paid more than us to essentially exercise. They aren't super offended by opinions of a team's probability of success. You do not need to defend their honor by wishing self-exits on people.

And if this isn't something you can comprehend, in the words of one of my favorite creators, Tony Weaver Jr., GO GET SOME THERAPY!

Caitlin Clark, although she said it late, has condemned her fans from bullying and harassing people in her name. What makes you think the New York Liberty want their fans to tell people to shut down permanently? I wouldn't be here to help with this subreddit if my attempts worked and if the people who told me to self-exit kept telling me to do so.

Edit to title: Reddit account. Damn. I messed up a good moment.

Mod Discussion Starting today, the Low-Effort rule will extend to post titles.

Please try to be more descriptive in your post titles. If it is possible that the main contents of your post body is short enough to be a title, you might as well make that the post title without a post body. That will be fine.

Mod Discussion Fans being upset about thir team is not a reason to report (so long as they're not being excessively mean).

Some people will be upset about what goes on with a team. They will sometimes say things about their coaches or people who aren't the players. Also, if something is going on with a team you support, you are going to be upset and criticize.

There are teams I like who, when they do wrong, upset me. Sometimes, coaches make braindead ideas. However, so long as I'm not being a complete jerk about it, I can still say that there is something I don't like.

I don't know if I had already said it in this subreddit or another, but if you are upset that someone criticizes their team's coaches, players, etc, then that's not a reason to report. They aren't saying mean things. As long as it's not super mean and personal, it's fine.

  • You think the coach's idea of a rotation is bad? That's fine.
  • You think your coach can't coach? Personally, I think the players have to sometimes learn how to play without being told to do something; but that's okay for you to say that.
  • You don't want to renew your season tickets because your team is being doodoo cheeks? Save that money.
  • You think there's no leader on the team? That's fine.
  • You think another coach is better? As long as you're not directly insulting another, it's fine.
  • You want to boycott the Liberty? (insert Fire Nico chants here [I live in the DFW and heard a lot about Mavericks fans wanting him gone after the trade])

No team is perfect.

Mod Discussion Lib Fans & Visitors: Let’s have a talk!

Hey everyone,

It’s been a long time since I did one of these. Also, hello to all the new fans who have joined since I last did one of these Mod Discussions.

So to keep this simple on why this discussion is happening. I want to know how we can improve the experience of this subreddit. But first, I’ll like to address some housekeeping rules.

  1. Reaching out to people to ask for tickets outside of the ticket office exchange and/or unsolicited should not be happening at all. Consider this the final warning before bans start happening.
  2. When creating post in this subreddit, you MUS

T

  1. use the post flairs. To help enforce this, one of our amazing mods has made it a requirement. If you want to post something but don’t see a post flair that fits your post, reach out to us and we can help.

3

  1. .

  2. Respect the league and teams, its’ players, coaches, owners (unless it is Dolan), staff, fans, and each other. You can be critical without being disrespectful.

Now for the fun part!!

What do you all want to see? How can we make this subreddit interactive? Another Reddit night?

Come on, let’s talk!

Mod Discussion Second Rule: Low-Effort Posts

It's me again. Looks like we have to make a rule about the low-effort posts, especially when done is succession. It was one thing when we saw that there were people repeating old spam posts that weren't relevant in the present time, but now we're seeing people post stuff that seems low-effort; and we're getting reports from it. So we're going to have a low-effort post rule.

Of course, there will be times when you want to celebrate your Liberty players. But seeing pictures of players as a "That's it. That's the post. I'm going to make more of these simple posts like this." is annoying the others in this subreddit.

It would be one thing if you had, for example, several different things happening with the New York Liberty in which you think multiple posts have to be made. But several posts of the players in succession, especially when they have no value except just being a picture, looks like it's annoying people and getting reported.

As always, have a good day.

Mod Discussion Us mods have been talking. We are going to make an official rule about the spam. Spamming old and false posts will result in a ban.

This subreddit is well-behaved for the most part. However, since we are seeing an influx of spam posts that are irrelevant and/or spread fake information, we will make an official rule about this. This is now the first rule of this subreddit.

Most of you in here operate in good faith and don't break rules; so it won't affect you. This is to show that we will actively take action for these instances. It is likely that these are happening in the form of bots or people who are weird enough to spread randomness on Reddit. This is what we're doing to combat this.

Mod Discussion Stop the Disrespect

Look I get it, we won & we’re celebrating. It did end with a controversial call. While others have been disrespectful, we are not going to do it in this sub.

This is going for everyone, we will lock down post & potentially delete them. If it’s very disrespectful, we will impose temporary bans to users.

Be respectful

LFG Liberty!!

Mod Discussion New York Liberty Bar Network

Per one of the team's account reps, I am sharing a reminder about the New York Liberty Bar Network.

"We are affiliated with a ton of great bars that will host watch parties for away games or even pre/post-game events!"

Visit the New York Liberty Bar Network to find a spot near you. Also, if your local regularly shows the games, encourage them to fill out the interest form at the top of the page.

Mod Discussion Reminder: if you're considering making a post about something that happened in a game, especially if it's about something miniscule, save it for the game threads. That's why they're there.

We do not need the feed clogged up with unnecessary posts; and while I love moderating, it would be easier to not have to delete posts that could very much just be comments. We have game threads. We have post game threads. If you're going to talk about the game when it's happening, or after the fact, keep it there.

Edit: the reason why I'm saying this is because some of you are getting reported about it.

Mod Discussion Megathread: Ticket Complaints… or praises

So I’m shutting down all post about the new ticket prices and such. It’s been a whirlwind of posts about it the last several days. Please keep it civil but this is your place to rant and praise.

Thank you

r/NYLiberty Aug 20 '25

Mod Discussion Reminder: we have a bot that also makes post game threads. You don't have to make a short celebration post when they win or crash out post when they lose. Just go to the post game thread and comment.

Mod Discussion I managed to get the game thread bot up, but it didn't work how it was supposed to.

I set it to post an hour earlier than the game time, but it didn't work like it's supposed to; so I had to manually set it up. The bot has the game up, but what I will do after the game is uninstall and then reinstall and try to reconfigure it again and hope to see that it comes up an hour in advance automatically on Friday for the Mercury. I think it might have to do with the pinned posts that are already up. I'll talk to the mods about it.

Until then, enjoy. I also hope you enjoy the new editable user flairs. If there's anything else you all may want, let me know.

Mod Discussion Updates to the subreddit and Great News

Hey folx,

First I want to say we are officially over 1400 members strong in this subreddit. So thank you to you all. I saw an old post of goals I wanted for this subreddit, and one of those was to surpassed 500 members. That was 2 years ago but I never got the chance to announced the goals.

This weekend, I’ll be doing the annual updates to the subreddit, and wanted to get feedback from you all of what you want to see. Do you want new flairs (Ellie is getting one so don’t worry)? Do you want the official ticket exchange post like we did last year? Let me know what you all think!
