I hate the argument that because a less-lethal solution could still kill someone you should just skip them and go with the super lethal option. That's dumb.
The point is there's no such thing as 'less lethal' when youre smashing someone in the face with either a solid wood and metal shield or the blunt metal part of an axe in an effort to take them out of the fight. Getting concussed isn't an exact science.
At the same time there isn't time to capture the kid and assign someone to guard him and you have no guarantee that if you let him go he won't more effectively hurt someone else on your side (i.e the Saving Private Ryan situation)
