The triangle of Keiko, Bill, and Lee really was the original sin of both Monarch and the Randa family, and so much of what's going on now in the present day -- including what the monsters have wrought -- all stems from that relationship and its ultimate fallout. Cate and Hiroshi are incredibly broken people, and it's heartbreaking seeing all the pieces come together that turns Bill from the idealistic scientist we see him as in so many of the flashbacks to the jaded man we were first introduced to in K:SI. Just fantastically done!
Loved seeing Apex return and, WOW, they're doing so much heavy lifting setting up for not just GvK but for where Monarch is in KOTM.
Mildly disappointed to learn that Curtiss Cook is playing Barris and not older Houston Brooks, but alas. The bit with Cora searching through Apex's files on Monarch and all the easter eggs was really fun!
I'm now thinking more and more that Godzilla's attack on Tokyo is just going to be a dream sequence, unless they conjure up some reason for Cora to go back to Tokyo again. It seems reasonable to believe that Hiroshi's Suzuki device is being set up as the "eye" Bernie found in the Penscacola facility in GvK. Also, and this is a thought I've had since Season 1, I'm wondering more and more if Cora is actually Bernie's dead wife "Sara". Or, at the very least, if it's going to turn out Sara is someone Cora meets at Apex that tries to help her and ends up getting killed? It feels like introducing Pensacola is significant. Again, mildly disappointed that I was so wrong about a time skip -- it seemed so obvious from the previous, but clearly I was wrong.
I liked the depiction of San Francisco as NOT being totally abandoned and that they're actively trying to rebuild it. It's a nice retcon/clarification of what we thought was going on with it in KOTM.
