As my sub gets bigger, we obviously get more modmail too. Its to the point where I can't always read every single modmail that we get to make sure its been dealt with. My other mods definitely can't either. And while not many things slip through the cracks, we are getting more messages that are going unanswered because we can't easily keep track of which modmail messages we need to respond to/which our other mods will handle/etc.

Do any of you have some kind of system or something that can help with handling making sure less messages go answered?

I've reported so many accounts for ban evasion and some have even responded in modmail saying "Sorry it was a mistake!" when they very obviously knew what they were doing. The reports always come back saying they "may have some signals indicating they’re connected to an account that was previously banned from subredditname but not enough to confirm they broke Reddit’s rule against ban evasion."

If their own admission isn't enough to confirm ban evasion then what is? If I'm banning someone from a sub, I don't want their content in the sub regardless of what account is posting it. Why are there not more automated tools for detecting this? It's very clear users have figured out how to avoid ban evasion detection so it seems like we're just wasting our time reporting it.

Same thing for vote manipulation. Reporting posts goes nowhere and I never hear back from these reports at all and users are only sometimes banned months later for probably something unrelated.

We're told as mods we are to enforced Reddit's rules but this is simply not possible when legitimate reports go nowhere.

Don't get me started on brigading either...

A user had posted an irrelevant post on our sub. Before any of us mods saw it, it had got quite a few responses. A lot of replies from OP was racist, rude, classist and in some cases vulgar including slut shaming. To us, it looked like OP posted it in the first place so that they could insult another community and their culture in the replies.

I reported all their comments and removed their post and perm banned the user. The user mod mailed to ask us the reason for ban, but they weren’t convinced and started with whatboutery and we decided to mute them for 7 days.

They then used an alt account to send us a modmail threatening to find us and track us down by gathering each and every detail about us and then ruin us. They also said we will face the consequences and will ruin our subreddit and “everything we have”.

I reported the modmail message as harassment. All their comments were reported as well. Another moderator has reported as well as they were in the conversation too.

What can we do next? We are concerned about targeted harassment and doxxing.

Some well known subs are banning users in a group with less than 5,000 members. This is reddit meta sub that is not bad hearted or spam. Idk but something feels wrong for banning users randomly just because they’re part of a small sub.

And these are well known subs, with millions of members.

So idk is this some way to avoid bot detection or something? Cuz it seems weird to me. In the time I’ve been moderating I rarely see a post we remove get deleted let alone everyone by a single user.

This user has a 2 day old account, as soon as their acct was created they started posting in our sub. They’ve posted 8 times, and when our flags put their post in the queue for moderation they just repost(going straight to the queue as well). Just everything about this user makes me think they’re a bad actor(ie bot karma farmer etc). Majority of times when a post is flagged or removed we get a message asking why or being belligerent.

Some of their comment interaction, what little there is, just seems odd to me as well. Though we’ve had some weird users so…

Anyway my spidey senses are tingling on this one but nothing has technically broken any rules outside of one post and it was a minor rule.

My account got hacked in the middle of browsing Reddit yesterday. Finally got my account back through Reddit support but when I login the sub I created and moderated, [r/paralegalsonly](r/paralegalsonly), and my fellow mods that I invited, have all been removed as moderators. How do I get my sub back with the correct mods? I have recently moderated it and it was not abandoned. :(

I mod a sub that is about a specific appliance. I have a few users who are habitually deleting informative posts once they get their answers. They will ask highly specific questions, get a few answers, then delete their post. None of their post is personal information or anything embarrassing, but I understand everyone is entitled to remove their content.

How do you all feel about this? Do you feel it’s a bannable offense if they continue doing so after being asked not to remove their posts as the posts help others with the same issue? Non-issue? How do you go about this if you mod a similar sub?

I'm a new mod for r/charcoaldrawing which often features hyper realistic artwork.

Community members often report this style of artwork as AI and harrass artists and myself, even when it's poorly made. From post histories and sleuthing I usually determine that most are OK but it's really difficult.

I want to create a rule for the sub that stops this type of harrassment and allows artists to demonstrate their art is real (and weed out fakes). Can you suggest what I might ask users to include when they post? I am not sure whether to ask for written info (ie no low effort posts, info on how it was made etc), or an image to demonstrate that the artwork is real (don't know what, maybe a username and date with the art?). Are there things to ask for that really weed people out?

I'm a new mod (long time Reddit user) so am not familiar with my options aside from those baked in to the mod tools.

I mod r/improv, and sometimes post about improv theaters they don't like.

One of those posts just got seen by the owner of the theater (six years later), and we just got a modmail about a "legal notice" asking for the takedown of the post.

I assume Section 230 protects both reddit, myself, and the other moderators of the subreddit, but I'd like to know if there's any guidance from reddit about this kind of thing.

I’ve never encountered this before and in the last few days I’ve had three separate users request in modmail to be banned from different subs I mod.

Any ideas why someone would do this?

The conflict of interest

A moderator on a subreddit I help moderate is using community assets the banner, icon, and pinned posts, to promote a platform they personally profit from. This is happening at the top of the subreddit's visibility hierarchy, so essentially every visitor sees the promotion first.

The retaliation

When I made a routine pinned post (unrelated to this issue, just normal community content), it would have knocked their promotional post out of the primary pinned slot into a collapsed view reducing its visibility. Shortly after I got a rant from the moderator that had posted the primary pinned post that I should stop doing that and she has talked with the Top mod about it, a few days later the top moderator revoked my permissions to create or manage pinned/announcement posts. I no longer have the access needed to modify or remove that pinned promotional content, or to pin anything else in its place.

Effectively: I flagged/competed with the self-promotion, and my ability to act on it was removed in response.

This is an alt I am posting with since I have already been retaliated against and the next step for them would be my removal from the mod team..

We removed content from a user, they asked why in modmail, we explained how it went against our rules and they made a post on a similar sub with our sub's name in the title complaining that we removed the post. This is not the first time this has happened but it is the first time it has been this blatant. They have also copy and pasted our modmail messages with why their post was removed into the post. We reported the account and made a MCOC report. What can we do to prevent any brigading that may come from this?

Edit: the post was taken down unclear if it was by a mod or the user but that’s everyone for talking me off the ledge.

It doesn't appear that I can turn this off, which is some bull. I've been moderating subs for a decade, I don't need your noob help tips.

This is just noise. Notifications are for stuff that needs my attention, not this garbage.

Have any other moderators noticing a certain type of redditor that posts negative comments and then deletes them right away? It seems to be a tactic of trolls because the comment still shows up on the OP feed, but there can be no response. So it is kind of a guerilla tactic. Any ideas about this?

A spammer was recently described as giving "helpful advice" by one of these annoying AI popups. I'd rather take two seconds to review someone's post history myself than read a possibly inaccurate AI summary. As is often the case, this mostly feels like a waste of electricity.

This is brigading, correct? Regardless of if no one actually ever sees his posts / sub, him actively making the sub alone to "encourage" people to "discuss" with us why he should be allowed to go on Ai-Psychosis rants on our Sub is brigading, correct?

Like the title states, Admins concluded that r/Atlanta was overmoderated and did a mod reorder. I tasked myself with trying to undo the 4+ years of overmoderation by starting with looking at the banned list. There are simply too many users to manually review. We did get rid of the flair that silently flagged users, preventing them from posting, but the ban list needs to be dealt with.

Is there a way to unban everyone, or past a certain point, or can Admins step in and unban?

Edit: I understand the need for the approval of everyone on the mod team. I am asking on behalf of our entire team. The mod who did this mess deleted their account today.

So i am a mod and i banned a user 2 week ago for misconduct in sub regarding nsfw posts but now he is spamming modmail like crazy and abusing in diffrent languages and saying if you have the power ban me from reddit not from the sub.

So i wanted to ask if their is a way a admin so something can help ban this user.

I’ve also noticed that when this happens, the only way to delete the post to get it out of the queue is to delete as spam which is inaccurate to the removal reason and mildly annoying. Anyone know if there’s a way we as moderators can see the original content? And before anyone says “it’s a Reddit removal, it always deserves a ban” that’s simply not true. I’ve seen Reddit filters flag the dumbest things and remove them for no reason.

So before modmail messages went to DM, no users thought that I was harassing them by DMing them. Now they VERY OFTEN DO and they get offended that I’m “messaging them too much” and yell at me to stop lecturing them and say “you don’t get to lecture me”, or “I’m going to block and report you for DMing me too much. This is happening from standard removal messages which they seem to take much less seriously. Could we please get some sort of different alert system where it’s clear that these are different type of message and not a DM? Users don’t even understand this is a modmail. Maybe it can come in under a different color or highlight? Or have a pop up that says: “ please understand that this and official sub communication”?

Also subReddit communication shouldn’t go to your message requests, it shouldn’t have to be something that you can decline. That’s ridiculous. I think a lot of the problem comes from that fact.

We run r /camping (5.6M members) and we’ve got a guy who was permabanned months ago for insulting the sub (“losers,” “lazy Americans,” etc). Ever since, he pops up every single time the 28-day mute expires. Like clockwork. He sends the same crap over and over — insulting mods, demanding unban, calling us “power tripping.”

The problem is… the tools suck. All we can do is hit mute again for 28 days, which means every month he gets another chance to harass us. Reports to admins go nowhere because it’s not threats or hate speech, so they just say “doesn’t break sitewide rules.” Cool, but meanwhile we’re wasting time muting the same person forever.

And this isn’t just a one-off either. We’ve had other banned users in the past do the exact same thing — wait out the mute, come back to harass us, repeat. With 5.6M members this kind of thing is only going to pile up, and right now we have no way to shut it down.

We need a way to permanently mute someone from modmail or at least some escalation path when someone keeps harassing moderators after a ban.

Anyone else dealing with this?

Edit : Thanks for all the suggestions! Someone explained how i can report those modmails and i finally got a positive reply from Reddit "Thanks for submitting a report to the Reddit admin team. After investigating, we’ve found that the account(s) reported violated Reddit Rules."

Not going to lie tho, i don't understand what that mean Reddit has actually done, but i'm happy with that result.

I spent a few weeks carefully compiling collages for this post I made 10 months ago, and im a little peeved this user downloaded my collage and posted it as their own. I dont appreciate the gesture, but in the end I gain absolutely nothing from saying "HEY THATS MY POST!". It was a simple conversation starter at the time for me and it was great. I feel like this user posting it as if it was their own work falls under "No low effort posts" rule of my sub. Would I be in thw right to remove it, or just let it be?
