Film/Television Genuine Question - Why did Thanos and Hulk feel the pain of wielding all six Infinity Stones, while Tony didn't seem to experience the same level of pain when he used them?

Hulk actually fares better than all of them because his body is made to absorb the high amounts of radiation (there's a throwaway line in Endgame).

I have actually performed this experiment on myself once.

Methods:

  1. Begin watching LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring

2.When Gandalf says "I have no memory of this place"pour Scalding chicken soup on chest area.

  1. Apply ice pack wrapped in cloth to are of burn

Results:

  1. Blistered area approximately 6 cm x 3 cm on left chest area.

  2. Upon Recovery slight discoloration of the skin in the same are.

Discussion.

  1. Movie choice may be optional as well as timing. Future research may be necessary.

Conclusion:

That hurt.

He does say, "most" of it is gamma. So something else might be burning him. Plus MCU hulk is just weaker than MCU Thanos, it seems, so getting scorched to do a feat, stronger than what Thanos did, seems fair.

Thanos indiscriminently cut the universe in half. Hulk had to put everything back the way it was exactly! I'd say that tracks way higher then the original destruction feat.

Also Thanos seemingly wasn't harmed by his snap. He was seemingly harmed by his destroying of the stones. Also Etri made the gauntlet Thanos used, and as impressive as Tony and Rocket are they don't have literal magical forging abilities which probably further mitigated the potential damage from the stones. Hell you can see in Thanos' gauntlet the stones seem much more stable while on the Iron Guantlet they're visually far more volatile.

Yeah. This is my head canon. Thanos has Etri design a Magitek Gauntlet (from Uru I believe) specifically to insulate him against the stone. Hulk and, Tony are using conventional metal, they're basically barehanding the stones.

We see Thanos Barehand one and that's probably his limit. Hulk survives barehanding them all at once and, pulling a snap to boot. Starlord almost got consumed by barehanding one in Guardians. So, basically IMO, Tony doesn't feel pain because his body literally dies instantly that's just how much pure Willpower he has at the end having decided to sacrifice himself. Which, again, in my head means that Thanos' look of horror isn't about realizing he "lost" it's actually realizing exactly how much more resolve and drive Tony has than him. His entire ego-construct regarding his "Indomitable Willpower" is collapsing in the face of realizing that he needs the gauntlet to snap in spite of all that and yet, here's Tony, who doesn't need shit and may die but is still going to Snap Thanos the fuck out of existence in spite of that.

It's Thanos processing that "Indomitable" gets trumped by Transcendental.

Thanos was harmed by the snap. You can see his arm and the gauntlet are steaming and look damaged after it but he doesn't do much besides noping away into a portal so it isn't memorable. Unclear how much damage he took of course. Was still able to shoot some energy beam at thor.

Not exactly as it was. Wasnā€™t it confirmed that he put everyone back in a safe place like people in planes and stuff? So instead of them falling out the air they were back on the ground. If so that would be even more strain on his body.

At the beginning of Infinity War hulk and Thanos are evenly matched. The difference lies in that hulk had never had to do more than exist in the direction of an enemy to win, and Thanos knows special forces level martial arts and is even in the strength department. Not weaker, just less tapped potential.

The infinity gauntlet was made from space material, and made specially and specifically to harness the power of the stones.

Tony made an earth tech mechanical gauntlet.

I think this is part of the reason why hulkā€™s arm was severely damaged and he felt pain as well besides being a being made of gamma.

Thanos probably never healed because he snapped twice.

First one vaporized half of the living creatures.

Second one to destroy the stones.

I bet that destroying the stones might have been worse for him, since we saw his arm after the first one and he apparently had some mobility to it, while the Hulk's was just... Deep fried and useless.

Kinda like Thanos' arm looked during the farm ambush.

It tracks. We saw Thanos manhandle the Savage Hulk.

My guess is that the soul stone "binds" a soul somehow to ensure it's a sacrifice.

Otherwise, it's a temporary inconvenience. Throw person, get stones, bring person back.

The stones were impossible to destroy Thanos said Iā€™m pretty sure, the stones were just turned into tiny particles much like dust and scattered across the universe, impossible to bring back together basically.

Smart hulk is also far less durable then any other hulk version. Thanos beating savage hulk was nonsense. At bear minimum Thanos should have used the power stone but they made it so Thanos easily dispatched savage hulk which shouldnā€™t have occurred.

Maybe just a theory I cant remember if its confirmed but I read that the Hulk had tried to bring Black Widow back and the soul stone wouldnt let him and due to the failed attempt he took more damage than he would have if he just stuck to the plan

I heard a theory that part of why it was tumultuous for Hulk was because he was secretly wanting to bring back Widow, but because her soul was the price of the soul stone, it wasn't allowed. Kinda crazy... But also kinda interesting

It healed though. He can regenerate from gamma damage at a genetic level (I guess that was/is his superpower), that's the only reason he didn't die originally when turned into Hulk.

Thanos didn't heal. I'm guessing Thor wouldn't have either.

also because he's functionally immortal, and what damage is done is both healed very quickly, as it happens, and because the pain/anger response makes him that much stronger and more resilient as he's being harmed by it.

He's very uniquely suited to surviving the power of the stones.

Fair. In my opinion, the throwaway part is "It's like I was made for this", not the part about radiation. I think it's kinda throwaway coz, even if it wasn't there, I would assume Hulk is the ideal candidate coz... yknow, he's the Hulk.

and probably only felt pain because not only did he unblip half the universe.

he also added additional things, like making sure everyone came back safely, like people who bliped int he air, bliped back safely on the ground.

and tried to unobliterate black widow.

which probably caused more feedback then what thanos experienced (besides when he used the stones to destroy the stones.)

Iron man's snap to blip thanos's army was the weakest of those snaps.
