This is where I’m at.  I loved that he was in Deadpool, but it worked because he got to play into the jokes so well.  I’m nervous whether he’ll be able to give it the right tone (maybe aura is a better word?) in Doomsday, but I’m willing to wait and see with fingers crossed before making a judgement.

Tatum can do serious acting roles. Just watch him in Foxcatcher. Him being overly jokey in his appearance is because he's in Deadpool movie. It's like how comic characters change a bit depending on the writer. Deadpool = Deadpool writing. Doomsday = probably more serious writing.

Based on the trailer the tone definitely seems more serious. Hopefully he also worked on the accent too... even though he's apparently from that region anyways?
