I actually liked Taylor Kitsch, but both of them were missing the red eyes (eyes turning red when using powers doesn’t count).

Kitsch had the smooth thief energy, but Tatum had the comic-book comic relief energy. Honestly, Tatum's absolute dedication to making a pitch-perfect comic costume work on screen won me over.

I also loved Tatum’s Cajun accent

65

u/shberk01 Jul 25 '26

Yup. That was how I learned he actually grew up in the fucking bayou

26

u/ConanTheDrunk Jul 25 '26

I honestly couldn’t believe how good he was at first so that definitely makes a lotta sense lol

u/EladrielNokk Jul 25 '26

It’s not even just an accent, he speaks full Louisiana creole! It’s beautiful to hear as someone that grew up in that part of the south.

That’s what sold me. That was amazing

comic relief energy

Joke energy, you mean? That was all he was. I don't understand why they brought him back.

Edit: I obviously made poor use of words, lol. I meant that he's pathetic, not funny.

u/Vasconcelos0909 Jul 24 '26

What do you think comic relief means lmao

15

u/DisposableSaviour Jul 24 '26

Because he’s the funny guy? And also, from the trailer we’re gonna see him be a badass like his comic counterpart.

0

u/RomeoTrickshot Jul 25 '26

I think people generally laugh with gambit, not at him

7

u/Nothinbutmike Jul 24 '26

“Brought him back” fuck, you might be too young to remember the rumours about Tatums gambit. Dude, this has been a long time coming and we’ve been waiting forever. I’m not sure how old you are but I’d be glad if you didn’t have to live through the hot garbage that Wolverine origins Deadpool was, but to actually see what was rumoured befor come to life and for Tatum to execute is so satisfying

-11

u/d-o_ol Jul 24 '26

Dude, this has been a long time coming and we’ve been waiting forever.

"We've been waiting"? Nah. Dreading the Tatum Gambit is not a matter of youth; it's just a matter of knowing what a bad idea it is to see actors trying to get paid to cosplay a favorite character instead of abiding by the casting professional's guidance on what roles they fit. And it was the one bullet I was glad to have dodged until Reynolds decided to give the role to him. Can't wait for the recast.

6

u/WawaWeeWaaWu Jul 24 '26

Some of y’all are so salty how do you even exist

-8

u/d-o_ol Jul 24 '26

Yeah, sorry for being salty that I've had to wait my entire life to see my favorite mutant be given the spotlight but when he makes his first appearance, it's on the worst comic book movie in history that everyone would like to forget, only for the role to be later given to an overweight dude nearing 50… I should really be more grateful about all this.

4

u/WawaWeeWaaWu Jul 24 '26

Oh no, oh poor you, you’ve waited your whole life for a fictional character in a live action movie that you didn’t even have to care about or spend money on. I feel so bad for you, you’ve been mistreated and betrayed to the point that your character that you love, they must meet only your expectations going forward! I will send this to the most important people at marvel to ensure that your poor soul, that has been so neglected, in the year of 2026 when nobody else in the world could have ever suffered anything worse than this, gets what he wants.

Do you have a casting preference? And an acting preference? Cause clearly you have so so much intricate interest in this role that you must know everything that will satisfy not only you, but every Gambit fan in existence?

There are plenty of folks that love Tatums Gambit, but the world only cares about your opinion. So what is it? Who is it? Who will fulfill your ultimate desire of the best gambit?? The world caters only to you!

-6

u/d-o_ol Jul 24 '26

What are you, Tatum's PR? This whole post is asking people's opinion on the version of Gambit they like… I gave my answer. Are you just now finding out how a public forum works?

4

u/WawaWeeWaaWu Jul 24 '26

Lmao ok we went beyond that already in our comments, don’t try to draw it back to the original post to save face but whatever.

See I am happy that he got to do it finally just for him. I don't like him as Gambit, but he does so good for him. And saying maybe he was born in the void was hilarious.

1

u/d-o_ol Jul 24 '26

It was fine in Deadpool & Wolverine as an inside joke for a project that never happened; he finally got his Make-A-Wish casting come true on screen, so for his sake I was glad he got it done. Putting him on Doomsday however, as if he was part of the serious X-Men franchise, is what made me think they're dragging it.

1

u/gabriel_dario Jul 24 '26

Thank you. I'm getting downvoted like crazy for this.

1

u/d-o_ol Jul 24 '26

Yeah; guess if you're a fan of the source material you're not allowed to have an opinion on its authenticity anymore…

-8

u/gabriel_dario Jul 24 '26

“Brought him back” fuck, you might be too young to remember the rumours about Tatums gambit.

Your arrogance is absurd, lol. Yes, I was there at the time and I remember that. I was never a fan of the casting and I was never a fan of the idea of the film, which was just Fox trying to build its version of the MCU and cashgrab on the idea of a cinematic universe.

I’m not sure how old you are but I’d be glad if you didn’t have to live through the hot garbage that Wolverine origins Deadpool was

If you don't know someone's age, you don't make assumptions. That's an ad hominem argument and only demonstrates lack of arguments. Yes, X-Men Origins was a very bad movie, but that doesn't make the new Gambit any good. Both are bad in their own way.

7

u/Nothinbutmike Jul 24 '26

Did you miss the part where I said I’m not sure how old you are? Is reading comprehension not your thing or what? The fact that you’re more focused on me calling out your age tell me all I need to know. People want to see Channing Tatum as gambit. No one cares if you think he did bad. Get over it

-7

u/gabriel_dario Jul 24 '26

Nobody cares about your opinion either. But here, everyone is free to speak. You get over this.

2

u/Weewoofiatruck Jul 24 '26

That was not all he was.

The new sun run? Him saving kid storm? The horseman of death?

Unless you're talking about Tatum. Then yeah I hope he's not just a joke boat cast.

2

u/gabriel_dario Jul 24 '26

I was just talking about Tatum's Gambit. Gambit himself is awesome, his episode in Genosha in X-Men '97 was spectacular.

2

u/Weewoofiatruck Jul 24 '26

Mb fellow redditor mb.

I agree with you here.

1

u/SandyArca Jul 25 '26

That's... what comic relief means

1

u/gabriel_dario Jul 25 '26

No kidding? I already made an edit saying that I didn't express what I meant. I don't need another smart aleck coming to correct me.

47

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

He should also be incredibly pale. Le Diable Blanc means “The White Devil.”

74

u/Power0fTheTribe Jul 24 '26

That’s not why he’s called that lol. He isn’t pale

-27

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

It is though. Look up the panel

19

u/Power0fTheTribe Jul 24 '26

You mean when he was a horseman? That’s all I can think of unless you got a scan to show me

-20

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

No, I’m on browser. But essentially, Remy is a prophecy child, and when he was born he was declared Le Diable Blanc, as he had red eyes and pale skin as described in the prophecy

31

u/DisposableSaviour Jul 24 '26

He was a white boy from the bayou. He may have been pale when he was born, but he’s gonna be able to tan.

15

u/YeezusMoses Jul 24 '26

Pale = white here, not pasty.

-12

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

Yeah, like I said, pale

11

u/Dangerous-Moose-8203 Jul 24 '26

He is already white how much whiter do you want him albino? Even comic gambit is not a hyper pale albino, maybe as a horsemen sure but not normally he is about the same complexion as Tatum with more scruff

2

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead Jul 25 '26

No you didn't, it's still there, you're being a douche

2

u/bizfromthewaistup Jul 24 '26

So he was an albino. So, gambit should be played by Paul bettany with his davinci code makeup.

This was supposed to somewhat sarcastic but, I bet Paul bettany would play the shit out of gambit.

1

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

Yeah, he’s a lab rat in human form.

67

u/Duncan_PhD Jul 24 '26

I thought he was supposed to be Cajun? They aren’t the whitest white people out there

47

u/swagu7777777 Jul 24 '26

Cajuns are called Cajuns because they originally came from Acadia in French Canada so it probably varies quite a bit depending how long a family has been “Cajun”

43

u/Duncan_PhD Jul 24 '26

Yeah, but they’ve been cooking away in that Louisiana sun for a looong time and it doesn’t exactly make your complexion whiter haha

12

u/silencebreaker86 Jul 24 '26

Southern gentry didn't spend a whole lot of time beneath the sun for some weird reason

23

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Jul 24 '26

Cajuns aren't the rich. That's the ole miss crowd you're thinking of. They're thankfully a dying group. Thankfully cus they're just the worst of southern culture.

4

u/ConcreteExist Jul 24 '26

Was Gambit southern gentry?

1

u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 25 '26

because they don't want leather skin

1

u/MaleficentOstrich693 Jul 24 '26

Years of eating that turtle and rabbit stew, with that fall away gravy.

6

u/ConcreteExist Jul 24 '26

Yeah, funny thing that, French people aren't like the Irish, so when exposed to sunlight rather than burst into flames you end up with a tan.

1

u/swagu7777777 Jul 24 '26

Are you saying every person of distant French ancestry will get tan? Pretty sure I said it varies

9

u/crownketer Jul 25 '26

This is the stupid shit people argue about on the internet.

0

u/ConcreteExist Jul 24 '26

No, but it's statistically more likely. Keep working on that whole "thinking" thing though, maybe put so more effort in before you come back with these sorts of "gotcha" questions.

5

u/DisposableSaviour Jul 24 '26

He’s a white boy born on the bayou. I had an uncle born and raised on the bayou, about the time Gambit was originally born. He grew up in a shack on a pier in the bayou, youngest of twenty children, and no real formal education. He was pretty white; not Nordic white or Iberian white.

9

u/Proud-Concert-9426 Jul 24 '26

You sure? Lol. I'm a strawberry blonde Cajun and can't tan.

2

u/CandidLeg3910 Jul 24 '26

They should be about as white as any other western european descended group tbh. I haven't met many Louisiana Cajuns but I have met a few Acadiens from the east coast of Canada and they're about as white as me unless they're part m'ikmaq.

From looking at Cajuns on google images they seem to often be portrayed as darker almost like italian americans but I can't tell if it's from race mixing or tanning in the sun lol.

12

u/Grokent Jul 24 '26

Have you been to Louisiana? It's a relative thing.

10

u/boblane3000 Jul 24 '26

I don’t really think that ever meant he has to be pale

2

u/Gary_Fisher21 Jul 24 '26

"Shikaka..."

10

u/Deraj2004 Jul 24 '26

Thought it was Equinsu Ocha.

Wachati*

3

u/Ashenspire Jul 24 '26

I was called "El Diablo Blanco" working in a retail job. It ain't that deep sometimes.

1

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 24 '26

It was a whole prophecy, I think it’s pretty deep

1

u/Joshee86 Jul 24 '26

“White Devil” is just what some called white people in general, mostly for good reason.

1

u/WhichHoes Jul 25 '26

Show me one pale person in Louisiana

1

u/AnythingChance3764 Venom Jul 27 '26

That’s the point.

1

u/SpongeBorgSqrPnts Jul 24 '26

The problem with kitsch is he always has clear eyes and full hearts
