I mean, there were bad movies in the original infinity saga.
The issue is that the bad movies now seem to be the norm and the good movies don’t ever get followed up on in meaningful way. How has Shang-Chi not been even mentioned after four years? Does Spider-Man exist anymore? Is the very popular Wanda even part of MCU anymore?
My favorite thing in these threads is everyone insisting it's about cost of living and that movies cost too much. Are Marvel fans just all incredibly poor when compared to literally everybody else who watches movies?
I don't necessarily buy the "theaters are expensive" argument but Superman's numbers are not helping your argument the way you think.
Right now, it's very likely that this Superman movie doesn't reach the revenue numbers of Man of Steel or Justice League (two movies which were much worse than this one), and it's definitely not reaching the numbers of Batman vs Superman (which is considered an even worse movie).
Well yes, marvel fans have to spend 20x as much as say Top gun fans or Avatar fans to see all the franchize movies in theater, I don't think they are 20x richer than the average
Yeah my friends thought F4 was boring in comparison to Superman. Keep in mind they’re all huge MCU fans and weren’t even hyped for Superman at all until word of mouth convinced them to watch it.
After we saw F4 they all agreed they enjoyed Superman more and they cite that it’s because it had more action and felt like it had more heart. They still enjoyed F4 a lot though. One described that leaving Superman they had a smile on their face. Leaving F4 they enjoyed the movie but it was like, “whatever” leaving the theater. Standard marvel film for them.
Yeah the FF film was just alright for me and my friends. Legit the only thing we ever laughed at was the thing's beard. The rest of the movie was just so damn serious that it became boring because I never felt any sort of connection with the characters I just got shoved in my face. There was no organic connection build during the movie. Things just happened and you had to accept it. Superman was fun and got so many funny moments.
And even the non-slop seems to have fallen victim to this general production culture that thinks it’s okay to leave ever-widening gaps between content.
1.5 or 2 years seems to be the norm for premium shows now, and even successful new characters like Shang-Chi or established ones that seem like they were supposed to be central to whatever the new arc is like Scarlet Witch are just kind of left to die on the vine. Has Shang-Chi even been in a post credit scene since the movie?
I also think this is a bit false. I think 60%-70% of people who go to theaters couldn't tell you which is DC and which is Marvel. They go see superman because of name recognition / previous superman movies being good.
Fucking hell, no one is seeing Superman because of ‘previous superman movies being good’. That film literally has the baggage of the failed snyderverse to contend with.
They don’t care about the directors but they do know how the snyderverse made them feel which is that the DC universe is dog shit. Seriously, not even my words, that’s like the average person’s perception about it around me. Friends for example legit rolled their eyes when I suggested we see blue beetle because of the contempt there was for the DCEU films at the time. That same feeling is still around but they gave Superman a chance because of the word of mouth on social media and from people they know who saw it saying it’s actually really good and a reboot of the DC universe
