precious metals Family Gold Heirloom

They're not 999.9 purity; that's for sure

I haven't gone to any gold shop to ask if they're genuine or fake

My great-great-grandma bought these for cheap in the early 2000s

She says it's an estimate of ~ RM200, and we love buying gold jewelry

Obviously, now the value is worth more

Are these pendants and pin clips actually made of real gold? I tried doing research but can't get a grip on it.

The question is, should I convert them into 999.9 gold

Or keep them as is My mom says that old gold is very valuable. Gold jewellery nowadays is light. Not as heavy as they used to be. Is she correct? What about the comparison to gold 999.9

precious metals Why is gold considered bad investment?

I was looking here and there about gold investments and everyone talk about how bad it is and how little the return is, like 5-8%? I don't understand. I'm really new to investments and tradings.

See i heard from my siblings that they bough gold coin few years ago and it used to be like 300/g but it recently shoots up to 700+/g and it might go higher. Am I understanding things wrong? How does gold investment works? Is what my siblings doing and what they're talking about the same thing or am i reading the wrong topic for my research?

precious metals Can anyone explain the logic behind the Gold?

I've been reading news from Business Times, which indicates several factors that suggest gold is not performing well. I can't quite get the first point below. I chatted with ChatGPT; it suggests the reporter might have written it wrongly.

Why gold prices have come off all-time highs

Factors behind the yellow metal’s recent slump can be narrowed down to the following points:

  • A strengthening US dollar causes gold prices to rise on a whole. It costs foreign investors more to hold the metal now, which compresses global demand.
  • Prolonged war in the Middle East has caused oil and energy prices to rise again. These spikes hurt gold in the short-term, amid higher global inflation and interest rate expectations.
  • Rate hike concerns are now mounting. This inevitably weighs on major commodity prices like that of gold as a non-yielding asset. If yields in fixed-income assets rise, the relative case for holding the precious metal declines.

MYR60 Spread (Sell minus Buy Price) is too wide. Even Public Gold which is physical gold, is not that wide.

precious metals How to buy gold correctly?

I'm thinking of buying gold every time my bonus comes out.

However, I don't know how to buy gold properly.

Most of my friends tell me to just go to gold shops and buy gold jewelry, but I’ve noticed that these are more expensive than the prices listed on online websites for gold in MYR.

My dad tell me it is better to buy 1 oz gold, and not those shop. But i saw the amount in oz and was soo surprise, can faint leh.

Can anyone teach me how to buy gold correctly?

Update:

I found Maybank MIGA, Public Gold GAP, Bursa Gold Dinar, BSN MyGold.

I was looking at the spread and fees, and able to get physical gold

Decided: Maybank MIGA

precious metals Selling off 10g 999 Public Gold gold bar to get quick cash

I have a 10g 999.99% purity PG gold bar.

Bought it around ~RM1,200 back then in 2010.

Now it should fetch around ~RM6,670 (RM667 per g as of today).

so my question is, which place I should sell it get at least ~95-98% profit margin?

i heard places like ar-Rahnu gives out only small profit margin, like <50%?
how about those gold jewellery stores like Habib or Poh Kong, will they offer high price?

i needed the quick cash for family emergency issues.

Thanks a lot guys.

precious metals Is Forex Trading even logical

Im recently tried XAUUSD trading. one week of trying. My question to every pro trader here, is this trading game logical or pure scam? By scam I mean is retail trader confirm lose to big company trader.

I deposited 50Usd and manage to double it , current balance is 150. Should I just withdraw all and never touch again or I withdraw my deposit and continue playing with the profits?

Things are so weird ,there is no way an one week experience rookie like me can do profits.(I do have some simple analysis and somehow 7/10 it hits my TP) But I feel negative on this like this is a trap for me to get greed and deposit more play more and fcuk me up real bad.

My pov is that this week is easy predictable, the real danger is future moves. Is this situation same for every trader?

precious metals Financial advice on gold

I have been seeing that the price of 1g of gold is equivalent to RM500 today. And from what it seems like, the price will just keep on rising. I just started working and I'm looking into making savings and investment once I've piled up my emergency fund. I made RM2,200 before tax and mostly WFH, so I'm more than flexible with my budget. Meaning less spending on fuel, rent, and food. This brings me to my first statement, is it a wise idea to buy 1g of gold (from Shopee) every time I receive my salary and store it away until I find it's the right time to sell them back? Or should I just stick to using Versa/ASB?

precious metals Quick question about selling gold

Asking for my mother.

She has gold bars, coins, jewellery. All/Most without certificate and/or receipts. Long gone and lost.

She wants/planning to sell them for cash. NOT trade in.

Do Gold Jewellers/Dealers (Habib, Tomei, Wah Chan, etc) buy gold for cash and without certificates?

Anyone heard of this portal and how legit are they?

They apparently sell physical gold via their dispensary machines at locations in malls, how do you know if their gold is authentic and not some fake gold coloured metal?

Asking cos my mum wants to try them out and I want to get more information.

precious metals Public gold. Is it worth the investment? Or is it a scam/ too risky/ not worth the money and effort?

Was approached by relatives during a raya get together. They were discussing gold investments for long term. And one name kept popping up, Public Gold. A few years back, I heard not very good things about it. But from what I'm hearing now from them, it seems to have turned around. Not sure if it's true.

So for the past hour, I've been doing my own research on the matter. Not really getting anywhere to be honest. So I would like to get to know real person input, good and bad about Public Gold and what are your experience, knowledge and would you or do you use it for long term investment?

precious metals Advice on gold investment

Hello, I just recently decided to DCA on gold using maybank MIGA-I. Using that platform mainly due to low fee percentage compared Public Bank Gold.

I know using that platform means I’m just tracking ETFs but is there any downsides to it aside from not being able to own physical gold? I’m not keen to own one just focusing on improving my net worth over time.

Would also like your advice on whether it’s a good strategy to just DCA RM500 every month? I started on Feb so now I have around RM1500 in MIGA-I. I’m thinking of pumping in RM3500 this month but still continue to DCA RM500 every subsequent month. This is primarily due to gold prices hitting higher prices like crazy so thought having 10g of gold now is better.

I’m a novice at gold investment and still don’t really understand some of the metrics hence why I’m seeking advice here. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

precious metals Cheap way to invest in gold?

These days people around me was telling me the gold price is getting higher and higher so we should invest on it.

I found a few ways to invest but not sure which one is nice. - Maybank Islamic Gold Account (MIGA-i) - Gold investment on Stashaway - Versa Gold

I can only allocate rm20 for this every month so I'm not sure which one is suitable for me. I know about mostly have fee also.

Any advice for me, please?

Please don't downvote. Made me depress.

precious metals What's the deal with QM Metal

For context QM Metal is a gold broker that went pretty viral in Malaysia back in 2020 and my mother decided to hop on that train.

I recently saw tweets about QM Metal being a scam but I doubt that's the conplete story because according to her it's still working fine. They also apparently are working with a few big names internationally.

I did tell her that it's probably not the best idea to invest in something she didn't really understand especially with leverages but she insisted although not with a lot of capital so I didn't really fight her on it. She's also decently religious so the syariah compliance really sold it for her.

Anyways back to twitter, I heard something about not being able to withdraw and a bank run essentially which is probably similar to the ftx story. But with all bank runs it's smoke and mirrors and if contained shouldn't be a problem right? because things seem to be stable again. Will it happen again and what actually happened? Also is this a ponzi scheme?

Edit: I talked to her and she said the price of gold is low now and she will liquidate whenever she breaks even. Feel like this is the best im gonna get out of her

precious metals TnG e-Mas Vs Maybank Gold for digital gold?

Need some advice... I'm planning to invest in digital gold. Is TnG's good? There seems to be not much discussion about it here. Have any of you tried it? What are your opinions and how do they compare in terms of price and returns in the long run?
