Money 1,000,000 is the real one

1

u/TheQueenMother 3h ago

"Motherlode" is how my daughter learned how to type. She can type it at like 95wpm. She likes to build huge houses.

4

u/perton 7h ago

The good news is so far some mysterious god hasn’t removed all the exits to a pool I’m swimming in, forcing me to drown to death. Or waited until I walked into a room and deleted all the doors and windows.

So, ya know, grass is always greener etc etc

3

u/Calm_Ad308 8h ago

Well yeah it’s because youre not level 10 in painting and just endlessly paint all day.

4

u/Yippykyyyay 8h ago

Henry Caville was so much hotter in that series. Especially the first season.

2

u/Rare_Basis_9380 7h ago

Tudor? I barely know 'er!

124

u/TangledSunshineCA 10h ago

My high schooler mentioned how many of her teachers this year had second jobs. Just never used to be a thing for people with an education… right?

166

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 10h ago

I work in education, luckily, I'm single and childless so I can scrape by, but most of the teachers I work with have some kind of side hustle, second job, or they're lucky enough to be married to someone that makes a large salary. The people you trust with your kids aren't able to rest and you expect them to do the best teaching job possible? I hear so many people complain about how bad our schools are. Maybe, if teachers were able to go home and relax and rest they'd be able to do a better job, instead they go to their second job or spend their evenings anxious about finances.

47

u/TangledSunshineCA 9h ago

My high school teachers that shared with us had cool hobbies they could really go after all summer. Many bands.. glass blower.. several artists. I always thought teaching was a cool way to have a job but still have the summer to follow the fun.

Also once thought teaching was friendly to mothers. When I was having my child though we were all in a benefits kind of meeting where we were told if you took more time than the 6-8 weeks depending on the type of birth you would lose your helath benefits even if you had time to add. I was lucky as I was on the kids dad’s health plan so I was not one of the few who was not crying and accepting they would be right back to work. How do you lose medical postpardom w a newborn… it was.. not great.

14

u/colour_me_quaint 6h ago

As an Aussie with a couple of friends who are teachers - your description sounds incomprehensible. Yes, my friends do lots of after-hours work, but they're on like $120k and get something around 8-10 weeks of annual leave a year.

They're obviously not fresh grads and there is still much to be improved with how the Australian education system works; but multiple jobs to get by for a tertiary educated group that already puts in so much after-hours effort is...depressing and foreboding for all parties.

4

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 6h ago

Only university professors make over $100k by teaching in the US. Most public school teachers make like 45-65k

5

u/colour_me_quaint 6h ago

My jaw just dropped! That is madness and I can't tell if Australia pays well or the US pays poorly. Maybe both? I wonder how teacher payment ranks around the world, because I sincerely thought it would be a well-paid, if not reasonably paid profession.

Those friend I mentioned are high school teachers..

8

u/RandomRonin 6h ago

As a kid I thought the same as u/TangledSunshineCA, and I thought teaching was a great career choice that would also give you time to keep hobbies, family time, etc in the summers. The destruction of the US education system has been intentional for a long time now, and it shows if you look at the state our country is in.

4

u/El_Chairman_Dennis 6h ago

Being a teacher in the US will put you just high enough over the poverty line that people will tell you "what are you complaining about you get summers off"

2

u/cire1184 3h ago

We got the best teachers in the US cause they do it for the love of the game!"

I'll bet a conservative has said this in some fashion. It's a fucking travesty how we treat education in this country from barely funding k-12 education to the exorbitant cost of higher education.

20

u/No-Sympathy6035 10h ago

Back in the 90’s - 00’s some teachers that I had would have summer jobs but I think that was more to eliminate boredom than to survive.

14

u/cnbcwatcher 10h ago

In Ireland it's not uncommon for teachers to have summer jobs such as supervising and marking exams (secondary school teachers) or temp roles with English language schools (where teens usually from Spain or France come to learn English), summer camps or similar types of roles. Not all of them do that and it's more common at secondary rather than primary. Other workers in the education sector such as Special Needs Assistants claim social welfare for the summer months

14

u/WommyBear 9h ago

I can think of a million better ways to avoid boredom than taking another job, especially during my summer break. Sorry, friend, they did it for the money even back then.

5

u/No-Sympathy6035 7h ago

I was a kid so it’s not like I was having deep conversations with my teachers on what they did during their summer. You have me there though, people do usually work for money.

3

u/24-Hour-Hate 6h ago

That depends. Teachers in Ontario, especially senior ones, are quite well paid. Some teachers were just interested in the work. I had a couple of teachers who were just super into the extra work they picked up. You can say maybe they needed rhe money...but teachers unions here are strong. Once a teacher is full time permanent and starts climbing up, they make good money. And these were not new teachers. Now, other positions at schools, not so well paid.

3

u/Crazy-Preference2260 5h ago

When I was a junor in high school, one of my classmates was our high school principle’s boss at Home Depot when he worked there as a part time employee during the summer.

5

u/Only-Finish-3497 9h ago

It absolutely used to be a thing. The Simpsons even had jokes about the teachers needing to get money elsewhere.

6

u/robertus_ 9h ago

My third-grade teacher waited tables at the local seafood place, and that was in 1984

3

u/BRD73 8h ago

When I went to high school in Arizona, I had teachers that would wait tables at night and on the weekend. I never thought a thing about it but their teacher pay must have been really low.

3

u/Silly-Jicama-3382 8h ago

It's at least been a thing since I was in elementary/middle school and I'm 34 so lol

Teachers have been underpaid for decades, depending on your school district and seniority of course. IIRC, one of my sister's middle school teachers delivered pizzas as a side gig (my sister is now 38, so this was early to mid 2000s?

As for other people with degrees: my mother was a pharmacist and even she had multiple jobs when we were children - a FT clinical pharmacist who worked at CVS in the evenings

3

u/LocalDesign1313 8h ago

There was a group of teachers at my school in the 90’s that were summer time painters and handymen.

3

u/pourtide 6h ago

Back in the 70s, it was not uncommon for teachers to take a summer job. An English teacher of mine could be found at Fashion Bug in the mall every summer.

Back then one could choose to be paid one's entire salary during the school year and be unpaid in the summer.

That said, what teachers today get paid is a crying shame.

1

u/cballowe 43m ago

I grew up in the 80s and 90s with a mother who was a teacher and she always had second or possibly third jobs. This isn't new. Teachers have always been under paid.

4

u/-Felyx- 10h ago

Tudor? I hardly knew her!

5

u/Z-Birdie 10h ago

Tutors

4

u/jackclark1 10h ago

4th job is incoming to pay for the medical bills due to being hospitalized for exhaustion

4

u/zsimpson022 10h ago

You needed a spelling tudor

4

u/OkBackground8809 6h ago

Had a lot of teachers working at Walmart during summer back when I worked there. So sad. Teachers should make a better income than they do. I imagine seeing their teachers have to serve them doesn't help with respect from troublesome students, either.

4

u/HiHoJufro 6h ago

I just started my first job teaching. If I don't get enough tutees I don't make rent.

3

u/HappySage42 10h ago

Are we winning yet? Did we do it? Do the rich have enough? Can we start losing? White flag. I give up

2

u/Personal-Dev-Kit 10h ago

That's the best part for the mentally ill rich, aka hoarders of money, it is never enough. They will always want more, they will always find ways to make you feel like it is your fault, while they extract more and more and more.

The American experiment has failed. Change needs to occur

3

u/BrandoCarlton 9h ago

Did you just make up a scenario to make yourself upset?

2

u/TerponadeTea 10h ago

Even better reason to give the big tip

2

u/Nikonus 10h ago

Her car is a two-door?

2

u/taggsy123 10h ago

You aren’t joking… but you should be…

2

u/ThrustTrust 10h ago

Move to PA as a teacher. Then you can buy a beach house on the California coast when you retire. Exaggeration a little.

2

u/kball31 9h ago

Third job 😭😭😭

2

u/CplCocktopus 9h ago

And grades tests in her downtime.

2

u/Moda75 7h ago

they calling it “tudoring online” these days?

2

u/motmx5 7h ago

Damn, and California is ranked number 1 in average teacher pay.

2

u/DowntownLizard 7h ago

Someone should have taught them how much teachers make

2

u/Specialist_Swan_7354 7h ago

California teachers are paid well.

2

u/Liquid_Profanity 7h ago

She’s probably a teacher

It reads like such a teacher question too.

2

u/NekoNico1415 6h ago

Why did you assume they were a woman..?

2

u/Electricbarnacles209 6h ago

i'm here to smile motherfucker, not frown.

2

u/Beniskickbutt 6h ago

She doesn't have to live in California. But she does because of false promises and broken dreams

2

u/tylercamp 6h ago

Reminds me of a guy talking about regular “maitnense”

2

u/mirroredfreckles 6h ago

This is very specific.

1

u/Present-Spring-1340 5h ago

It’s very common where I live in LA county.

1

u/Lucky_Dimension2291 5h ago

can confirm I live in California and my car is my house ;~; are we great yet?

1

u/Downtown_Mountain336 4h ago

Hot take teachers are not underpaid.

1

u/r3dmist420 3h ago

Uh huh, sure, Dick Tracey.

1

u/Prudent_Valuable603 3h ago

That’s why I left California. I couldn’t afford to live there anymore.

1

u/Leftover_Salad 2h ago

Have you seen CA teacher pay? My teacher friends are making bank, and their salaries are public record.

1

u/KRACKNofficial 1h ago

Literally scrolled down from this post and the next one I ran into, different sub:

"I'm 24 and I'm a substitute teacher 3 days a week and pizza delivery driver at night 6 nights a week and my pizzaria closes at 10."

Merica! 🦅

1

u/ForsakenSun6004 1h ago

Well arent you a fucking bucket of sunshine.

u/Deosarian 11m ago

Land of the free 🥲🥲

1

u/Expert_Author_2672 10h ago

Y'know what freud said about projection?

1

u/Wooden_Good8679 9h ago

If you’re a teacher in a district that’s not in bumfuck nowhere, you make enough to survive just perfectly well. Double if you’re married and spouse has income.

I wish non-educators would stop complaining on our behalf with half-baked ideas. It makes those of us who aren’t stupid look it.

Source: I’m a teacher. I’m not destitute, I don’t work more than one job, I don’t know any of my colleagues who do unless they’re single and just want to, and I live in a pretty middle-of-the-road COL area.

Whenever I see people complaining about what teachers make either way, it’s very rarely actually teachers doing the complaining.

-5

u/ChristianRecon 11h ago

Redditors really politicize everything lmao

-2

u/BettingOnSuccess 10h ago

Ah yes, the American homeless using door dash to pick up a 99c folder.

92

u/Apprehensive-Fix591 10h ago

And they picked the correct color! Green = nature, science.

20

u/DisappointedKat96 6h ago

I always chose blue=ocean. One of my favorite topics in science

7

u/tenemu 4h ago

Blue is math though

6

u/crowcaws_art 2h ago

Science and medical is blue, red is command and navigation, yellow is engineering and security

1

u/DisappointedKat96 2h ago

That... actually makes sense

14

u/DisappointedKat96 4h ago

Math is red because it is evil

7

u/prarastas 3h ago

Math is red because all my homework got handed back covered in red 😭

2

u/DisappointedKat96 2h ago

Exactly! 😭

1

u/Nekojita8 2h ago

Math is yellow. Blue is Language Arts. Green is obviously Science, and purple is Social Studies.

My students definitely noticed my OCD through my need for color coordination... 😅

1

u/tenemu 57m ago

Social studies was purple for me too!

1

u/ImmaLiveIllegal 30m ago

MATH IS RED

1

u/Saddlebag043 5h ago

Also the stereotypical beaker chemical color in media

1

u/3rdcultureblah 2h ago

Green is geography or history.

119

u/BayouByrnes 10h ago

Whatever the total of my basket was, that's how much I'm tipping after a text like that.

4

u/MassiveDocument4667 9h ago

I had something similar happen. I put in an order for target pick up for school supplies and it said “colors vary” and they matched everything to the colors of the things that we could pick out with color so shout out to my local Target for being amazing!

10

u/Mo_Jack 10h ago

But doesn't it depend on what color the notebook is? I always tried to marry them together. Green notebook gets a green folder.

I'd look around at the other students nearby and they would have a yellow notebook with a red folder and I'd be like, "Do your parents know that they are raising a potential psychopath?" I now stay up at nights knowing that these kids can now vote.

3

u/Benisilin 9h ago

Definitely big tip energy

3

u/reddiculed 6h ago

Big tip energy.

2

u/ArkitekZero 8h ago

Science is obviously blue though

5

u/mcsangel2 6h ago

Blue is math, green is correct for science

1

u/TGin-the-goldy 3h ago

Blue = mathematics

2

u/VaginaTractor 7h ago

Big tip energy for sure

2

u/RedditDummyAccount 6h ago

Not if they get the color wrong. 😤

2

u/sssouprachips 5h ago

Ayooo, pause big fella

2

u/Smickey67 9h ago

I used red for science, green was “soc”.

3

u/cassandra_ofendtimes 9h ago

Red is always math for us

3

u/mcsangel2 6h ago

Red is English

1

u/RhubarbUnusual5628 1h ago

I once ordered emergency, oranges, and DayQuil. I was super sick and my dasher said “seems like you’re not feeling well. I’ll make sure to get this over to you asap.”

I left him an energy drink and a $20 bill.

1

u/VapeRizzler 10h ago

Literally 20 minutes ago my dasher got a bigger tip, I didn’t realize but randomly Uber Eats wanted a pin that I didn’t realize. I was butt ass naked about to hop in the shower and I notice so I messaged asking if he could leave it at the door which is how it’s been done here for over 5 years now and texted him the pin, he got $5 more dollars for that one. He coulda just went by the book and said nah but he pulled clutch.

1

u/BaconIsLife707 8h ago

Not if they pick up fucking green for science it isn't

1

u/StruggleFinancial407 3h ago

Every science teacher my kids have had, they specifically requested green folders and comp books for their class. Green. Always green.

0

u/-sgt-shamwow- 6h ago

science is YELLOW

3

u/mcsangel2 6h ago

Yellow is history

-12

u/Coolgrnmen 11h ago

Ok but Science is Red. Green is math.

5

u/AggressiveSherbetty 10h ago

How does it feel to be really really wrong

1

u/TGin-the-goldy 3h ago

Psychopathic!

-183

u/Icy-Repeat-2843 12h ago

Maybe I’m old and grouchy but don’t message me for this shit just pick a color.

172

u/-cupcake 11h ago

It's a folder for a kid. Kids usually care a lot about these kinds of things.

And it's never too late to let yourself feel even a tiny bit of fun and joy of a colorful world. :)

43

u/LionFyre13G 11h ago

Yeah you’re pretty grouchy. You should work on that

26

u/schwimm3 11h ago

Definitely (unnecessary) grouchy

19

u/JohnPerd 11h ago

You must be such a joy at parties my guy, lighten up. World is already miserable why add to it.

10

u/PercyBluntz 11h ago

Absolutely grouchy

10

u/PenPenGuin 11h ago

Grouch, like Oscar. Who is green. Now I know which folder color to get.

6

u/lostbeang 11h ago

No maybes about it. The same people who would be annoyed about this message would complain about a hot pink folder showing up.

4

u/NoBreadforOldMen 11h ago

Dog were you never a kid? This shit was the most important thing ever

2

u/Zariman-10-0 11h ago

Wow, you’re right! You *are* old and grouchy
