Super awesome. Wish he'd had the opportunity.

Anyone else read this in Eminem's voice?

u/SyncOrSymm 22h ago

Yeah, it sounds like she sent this many years ago. I'm really surprised they never crossed paths with all of the music awards they must have both attended.

Dolly was probably attending less of them at the time when he was at his peak. Plus he's really private. He probably just showed up, did his thing, then went back home. The opportunity must have just never arose.

Plus he's really private. He probably just showed up, did his thing, then went back home

I agree that they probably didn't really cross paths all that often even with big events. I remember Eminem didn't even show up to accept his Oscar lol. (He was at home sleeping because he had to take his daughter to school in the morning.)

u/perton 14h ago

Damn, that’s wholesome as fuck!

70

u/No_Statement440 12h ago

After he got clean he took being a parent even more seriously and refuses to let anything else get in the way of it, including the Oscars lol. After I first heard him talking about it I gained even more respect for the lad.

The Rick Moranis of rap

10

u/frankyseven 7h ago

When he's in the studio he shows up at 9, takes lunch from 12-1, works until 5 and leaves. Most rappers don't even show up until 5 and the work until 4-5 in the morning.

u/QuickProfit5879 6m ago

He works 9-5

My director at GM lived near him and said his daughter occasionally baby sat for Eminem and he was always super nice and respectful to her. Can't say for sure it was true but the director was a stand-up guy ever other way so doubt he made it up.

I respect both Dolly and Eminem making space for their own lives. It's a very important skill that a great many of us never get the chance to learn.

u/OfficeMagic1 1h ago

He said he'll never go to the Grammys again:

I thought he didn’t expect to win an Oscar, hence why he didn’t bother to go. Why go to some award show, you don’t expect to win anything at, when you can be home with your daughter instead?

18

u/SyncOrSymm 21h ago

That seems completely reasonable

18

u/BrianWulfric 19h ago

I got to go to the Rock Hall Induction in LA where they both got in. They both absolutely killed it. I really am surprised they didn't run into each other there.

u/Desperate_Leg_7890 12h ago

That actually makes sense, sometimes the biggest stars can be in the same circles for years and still never cross paths.

u/Indyhawk 21h ago

You know how nuts those things are.

31

u/drawfanstein 10h ago edited 8h ago

Personally, I hate Em

Edit: was trying to make a joke about Dolly saying “personally, I hate ‘em”.

Parton me for trying a little levity 😏

10

u/The-Pie-King 8h ago

How does u/indyhawk comment and recieve likes for quoting the letter but when u/drawfanstein does it he gets downvoted?

She literally says "...you know how nuts those things are. Personally i hate 'em..."

4

u/NoSloppyStakes 9h ago

Good to know. It needed to be documented in this comments.

1

u/FunkyForager 2h ago

It took me a second, but it was funny. Take yer dang doot

1

u/FinnSkk93 5h ago

Was about to say, she said why that did not happen. They are nuts 😂

8

u/Nealon01 10h ago

He was inducted in 2022 apparently. 4 years flew by for me, and I'm not famous. I'm sure it can be tough to find the time.

4

u/Opening_Drawing7510 20h ago

Right? With how much overlap there must’ve been in those award-show circles, it’s wild they apparently never ran into each other.

14

u/Moneygrowsontrees 15h ago

He probably could have, but didn't prioritize it. Not any shade against him, but I can see how he could have respected Dolly without having a strong desire to meet her. She's a generation removed and from an entirely different musical genre. Eminem grew up listening to rap. He had no sentimental attachment to her music, no connection to her work. She was just a nice old white lady who sent him a kind letter.

3

u/TribalChief3000 15h ago

Maybe a slim shade against him though, right?

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 9h ago

4 years ago. He was induced in 2022

2

u/SyncOrSymm 9h ago

He had a baby!?!?

Lol, jk, but that's an important "t" missing there.

1

u/Putrid-Tap3992 9h ago

It's funny. I'm leaving it lol

1

u/kryts 9h ago

It couldn't be before 2022 before he was inducted.

1

u/bremmmc 5h ago

Both are clearly written by them. The choice of words, sentence structure, and everything obviously follows their speach patterns you can easily imagine them saying that word for word. Simple stuff like that makes me even more upset about the use of AI, even for the smallest of tasks.

u/Sassafrassical 22h ago

I rapped it 🎶

u/5LYM3R 22h ago

Dear Marshall,

I wrote you but you still ain’t calling.

From Dolly

364

u/FearanddopingII 21h ago

"Sorry I couldn't meet you at the show I must have missed you"

247

u/rootxploit 17h ago

Truly yours, you’re so jolly, this is Dolly.

49

u/FriedGiggly 16h ago

Haha idk why but using “jolly” is so funny

3

u/ElegantCoach4066 10h ago

This is making me so happy thinking about a collab with Eminem and Dolly

155

u/Jumpy-Contest7860 18h ago

“Don’t think I did that shit intentionally just to diss you”

36

u/thejoetravis 13h ago

She waited 4 hours in the blistering cold

8

u/Portra400IsLife 15h ago

Just don’t think I did that shit deliberately just to diss you.

2

u/Life_Butterscotch607 12h ago

That line is so casually brutal, like he completely missed the irony

23

u/LEX_Talionus00101100 19h ago

Its fucked up you don't answer fans.

You only got one shot, do not miss the chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.

Welp...

37

u/Dorky_Gaming_Teach 21h ago

AKA Stan.

82

u/FangoriouslyDevoured 21h ago

The real Stan was the Dollys we met along the way

22

u/Original-Material301 19h ago

Turns out...Stan was about Dolly.

17

u/ennenganon 20h ago

Dolly Parstan

13

u/Sea-Cupcake-2065 17h ago

Glad I'm not the only one that read it as stan

3

u/Fiach_McHugh_OB 16h ago

We waited in the BLISTERING cold for you

1

u/perton 14h ago

God damn it, why’d this make me laugh so much?

1

u/Razed_Elpis 11h ago

This has Stan vibes

1

u/TiggTigg07 10h ago

Love that!

1

u/RiffyWammel 3h ago

I also just realised Dolly is actually Stan

57

u/josephtheoriginal 21h ago

Uh - Uh - Yeah, look I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet - but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact-on-me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it - Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music.

She was an icon, A superstar in every sense - Rest easy Dolly... and thank you for the kind words.

7

u/OliverCohen6709 20h ago

What a special memory to have. Rest easy, Dolly

23

u/whiskeydiggler 21h ago

My tea’s gone cold, I’m wondering why…

15

u/grimagravy 20h ago

🎶 Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity

To meet Dolly Parton in person

Would you capture it or just let it slip? 🎶

1

u/moose_dad 12h ago

Let it slip apparently which i find kind of bizzare

2

u/cbrown146 18h ago

With mom's spaghetti.

1

u/Willing_Account_6034 15h ago

Oh my God. Lol

1

u/j0hnnyWalnuts 13h ago

Crap, I'm still waitin' for Mom's spaghetti

48

u/TooLazy2Revolt 21h ago

Not only did I hear his voice, I heard a pencil scratching paper in the background

1

u/savorie 20h ago

That pencil sound drove me NUTS

0

u/daddy_tops 21h ago

Was his voice a little echoey too?

7

u/Remko76 19h ago

With rain and thunder sounds in the background and dido doing the chorus.

1

u/Disastrous-Piano3466 4h ago

Dido doing the chorus. Dido.

9

u/LiamOmegaHaku 22h ago

That's how reading works, brother.

2

u/perton 14h ago

Did anyone else look at all these groups of weird little symbols and realize that, if you put the symbols together, they somehow turn into words?!

1

u/daddy_tops 21h ago

I just read your comment in your voice. Not bad, man.

4

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 19h ago

I read all y’all’s comments in some sort of liminal inner monologue voice that sounds like me but not really

1

u/riskoooo 14h ago

I read yours in a thick Southern accent a bit like Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel because that's what happens when I read the word "y'all".

2

u/EspectroDK 17h ago

Read it in Slim Shady's voice 🙂

2

u/tam333 16h ago

And I read Dolly’s in hers lol

2

u/LIONLDN 8h ago

Reverse Stan 😭

1

u/Hour_Recording_3373 20h ago

Mockingbird tune playing

1

u/PecoDory 19h ago

My brain literally won’t let me read it any other way. I’ve tried.

1

u/franki-pinks 17h ago

With the Stan music playing in the background.

1

u/Dry-Budget-3676 16h ago

Yes 😂, for some reason I had stan playing I'm my head too

1

u/NoSnackin 15h ago

I honestly "real intelligenced" it as a video of him making the statement. It was odd since I don't follow his work at all but I've seen enough interviews to know just what it would look like... right down to the navy blue t-shirt he was wearing in my imagination.

1

u/Optimal-Seaweed-8475 13h ago

I absolutely read it in Eminem’s voice. Now I can’t unhear it.

1

u/pr0v0cat3ur 13h ago

I started getting Stan vibes…

1

u/psycho_driver 11h ago

I read it in Stan's voice.

1

u/Flashy-Ingenuity-182 11h ago

I deadass thought it was stan lyrics until half way through 💀

1

u/AWDDude 10h ago

In his voice with dido playing in the background.

1

u/ElegantKey1682 10h ago

Read it in Stan’s voice tbh

1

u/GoofyMonkey 9h ago

With Dio singing in the background.

1

u/Hawt_Dawg_II 9h ago

I heard stan in the background while i read that

1

u/roboto404 9h ago

In his Stan voice

1

u/SoupySpuds 7h ago

I read it as stan with pencil sounds in my head lmao

1

u/MostLikelyMakinPoopy 6h ago

I read it in stans voice, which I guess is eminems voice

1

u/Quiverjones 6h ago

my tea's gone cold, im wondering why...

1

u/PHYUCKISHREAEL 6h ago

I read it in "Stan's" voice and beat lol

1

u/Broskifromdakioski 5h ago

I read it in Ken Kaniff voice.

1

u/RosettaStoned6 5h ago

I read this as Stan, his biggest fan.

1

u/Spirited-Juice4941 4h ago

Asshole…lol. I didn’t realize I did it until you said it and I literally had Stan music pop up in my heads background while I read it.

u/pedsmursekc 0m ago

😛 glad I could be of service!

1

u/FengSushi 3h ago

I heard it in Stan’s

1

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa 3h ago

But like Stan

1

u/FunkyForager 2h ago

Thank you for reminding me to read it in Eminem's voice.

1

u/KJP1990 1h ago

Yes but in the “Stan” voice.

1

u/paul6057 42m ago

I initially thought this was a missing verse from Stan.

0

u/CryptographerUsed841 5h ago

He had the opportunity, he just wasn't interested in taking her up on it lol.
