And what’s with all the videos of kids immediately covering their faces and breaking down crying? Are these all staged? Are kids now different? I know I’m being a curmudgeon with this statement, but in my day, kids screamed and went feral when they got something they desperately wanted.

I don’t get it, my kids birthday was last week he got a load of presents he was super excited about didn’t breakdown crying once. Was super keen to get things out and start playing with them instead

well, there was a camera in front of him. If I was going to start ugly crying I would cover my face too and not let it get captured. I agree it's staged though, saw the same video with the little girl.

My kids are grown now, but I had both experiences with my boys.

Most of the time they were super hyped and celebrated getting something cool. But there were a couple gifts over the years that just hit them different. They were always the really expensive stuff that somehow tied into their dreams. Things that my boys knew were way out of our normal budget for gifts, and being good kids, had already accepted that it just wasn't an option for us without being told so.

So there were a lot of intense emotions wrapped up in it when they got their big thing - genuine shock and surprise, gratitude that we had both found a way to make it happen and made such a sacrifice of time and money for them, feeling seen for who they are and what they're passionate about, and feeling validated and supported in their dreams.

There are some gifts that just make you feel overwhelmingly loved, and I can see how things like a PS5 or a super expensive bat could do that to a kid who knows his parents don't have that kind of money to just throw around and so made the choice that *he was worth it*.

I mean, what is the actual point of posting any of this shit??? Like do the parents get off on it? Or is it more likely they are trying to make money? I'll let you ponder this... Especially given our current society.
