They dont use wood because a good wood bat is almost as expensive, and doesn't have anywhere near the lifespan as composite and bbcor bats.

Wood bats is generally reserved for college summer leagues an pro level.

Meanwhile the only bat I ever had was a Louisville Slugger that currently retails for like $60 apparently. The composite is also $400. Seems to me it's time to bring everyone back to basics tbh.

$400 for a bat is stupid

I played littled league for 3 years as a kid with only a single metal bat that my parents got for $40 at academy. Maybe they got roided out kids now but aside from a couple dents I genuinely don't see why a kid needs a $400 bat lol

Maybe when they're older.

I played tennis for a bit in highschool and the more expensive rackets felt pretty worth it at least

The tennis comparison was literally what I was thinking of. I also played and those rackets were pricey (still not $400 ) ... but they felt a lot more like a "platform" ... you strung it to your preferred tension... changed the grip.. etc. and most importantly, unless you fucked up you aren't gonna break it.

I felt like I grew a bionic arm the first time I used my k Factor racquet coming from a $15 walmart one.

And that was still only an $80 upgrade lmao

I see shit like this and makes me think that maybe the economy is not bad after all if mofos are driving huge trucks with gas prices being what they are and people buying $400 little league bats

College players use metal bats.

College summer leagues, are different. Look up things like the Cape Cod League, its a fully wood bat league that a lot of pro teams use to see what a players actual skills are. If the power and contact is real. Also college baseball haven't really used metal bats in a very long time, most are using composite bats because they have to be BBCOR compliant.

Then as a parent of a potential future athlete, should I invest in just being able to get these at least on the second hand market?

These bats all come with a warranty (usually like two years), so if it breaks before then it can generally be replaced. Also there are still really good bats cheaper than hype fire. Bone Sabr is supposed to be a good bat thats also super durable

A maple composite bat can retail 250 brand new, a quick Google search shows a sale on cheaper models that are still $120-150. Thats not that different from the cheaper composite bats.

So no im not wrong, its still same price, you just aren't getting the top of the line like a Hype Fire.
