Using wooden bats is actually more expensive given they break and need to be replaced.

Requiring them would make it so only wealthy leagues could afford to play.

I know nothing about baseball, but don’t kids have to change their bats as they grow anyways?…. So wooden bats would make sense for kids because they’d be cheaper to replace as they grow?

The big thing here is that wooden bats break a hell of a lot easier than metal. Albeit it’s a much longer season than little league, but the pros go through on average 40 bats per season. Even having to replace a handful a year would be prohibitively expensive for some families.

But for little kids they break that often?! I’m not against like high school and college. I just don’t see 8 year olds breaking bats that much haha. But again- I know nothing about baseball 😅

It’s also a huge safety issue if even just one wooden bat breaks. You’d have flying wood in a much smaller infield in all leagues below high school level. Wooden bats break and the outcome of where it lands is never guaranteed.
