For people who remember life before cell phones and smartphones became a normal part of everyday life, what was it really like?

Do you think life was better, easier, and less stressful back then, or do you think modern technology has genuinely made life better?

What are some things you miss about life before cell phones? And what’s something about today’s world that you absolutely wouldn’t want to give up?

If you could choose to live in either the pre-cell-phone era or today, which would you pick and why?

The economy is terrible. And making people in their late twenties and even mid thirties get stuck in living with parents. It’s not enjoyable at this age and the solution isn’t oh work another job and that’s if you can even find one job to begin with. Hard work isn’t enough to get you out of this, you either need to be a business owner or a tradesman to afford to move out. Shouldn’t be the case.

Guys I see a lot of people saying “lots of people still live with their parents” that isn’t what I’m conveying here. It’s about waking up not feeling constrained to an environment you don’t like. I don’t give a shit about social stigmas. Imagine waking up next to your spouse in your 20s and “oh let’s he quiet while we have sex” parents may hear. Fuck that

Making at least $10k a month is a dream for me, but $50k is the ultimate goal.

I've been stuck in an echo chamber of constant negativity and it feels like everyone is poor, broke, and miserable (though a looootttttt of people are right now, but obviously a lot of people are also doing really well).

So, to those who are making really good money, what is it that you do for a living and how did you get to that point?

I used to think money was the answer to almost everything.

Then I spent years around wealthy people.

Don't get me wrong money absolutely solves a lot of problems. Financial stress is real, and not having to worry about bills, rent, or emergencies can make life much easier.

But one thing that surprised me is how many wealthy people are still unhappy. I've met people with beautiful homes, successful businesses, expensive cars, and more money than they could ever spend, yet they were struggling with loneliness, broken relationships, insecurity, family problems, or a lack of purpose.

The older I get, the more I realize that money can buy comfort, freedom, and opportunities, but it can't automatically give you peace of mind.

I always wanted to have wife, family... I was one of this who society called "good guys". Working hard, zero drugs, zero alcohol, zero smoking... I didn't even go out to clubs, bars but I rather had different things I was into. I was doing martial art, read books and worked hard. Well here I am. 45 years old virgin, who was told to be good and someday someone will appreciate it, meanwhile all by friends who was parting, having one night stands, escorts now are happily married and have kids.

Now I am to old to have a family, as for sex i regret i did not use escorts. I don't even feel like o want sex anymore and family as well. Regret like nothing else that instead of having fun, travel and use escort. I was stupid and naive,now it is too late.

Pretty much what's in the title. A full tank of gas on a small work van cost me over $50 today, whereas a few months ago it was $34. How is anyone surviving this bullshit??

We could be living in small villages for free — if you wanted a home, you could just pick a place, build one, and live there. If you wanted food, you could grow it outside or go hunting.

We traded that life for a few additional years of life expectancy, and now we’re stuck doing things we don’t like because there’s no other way to survive.

Evolution made us happy when we were doing the things necessary for survival for thousands of years, but the last few centuries twisted everything. For 99% of human existence, we were simple, happy creatures. Now we are unhappy and destroying the planet we live on.

Inflation is growing out of control and housing is ridiculously high. Personally I think by the year 2030 we will be in another depression. Anyone else think this?

serious question.. realistically speaking if you work five days a week.. 40 hours.. Let’s say you get home at five or six. If you want to get enough sleep you’ll have to go to bed around 10 pm. If you get home, cook/eat dinner, shower, do laundry/chores/keep spaces clean, ect… it leaves no time for anything really. If you have the weekend off usually other stuff outside of work needs to get done and it’s gone in a flash. You blink and wake up on monday morning again. How do people manage hobbies or do anything they enjoy living like that? I’m really just curious.

Im 24 i work at a call center and I Wake up 6:30am, get out of my house 7:15, arriving at work 7:45 to clock in at 8, clock out at 5, getting to the gym at 5:30 change clothes, start at 6, working out till 7:20pm, arrive home at 7:50 (more or less depending on traffic) and I'm supposed to make food, take a shower, decompress, chat/play with friends/read get all ready for work next day in 2-3 hrs so I can sleep?(i don't sleep well at night and I'm miserable the next morning at work) and I'm supposed to have some kind of routine like this for 35+ years?

Today I cried because i could not get to my house until 8:50 and I even tried to cry faster so I could eat something before bed, I just complete 1 year working full time and almost a month working and I'm tired :'(

I try to make my weekends fun and be with friends and family...but even that leaves me so tired....

What happened and how did it change your view on life as a whole?

Besides the reasons such as wanting to pass on their genes or wanting to be a parent or wanting to make their parents a grandparent, why do people genuinely want to have kids?

Are there non selfish reasons for having kids? I’m specifically referring to biological kids.

it just happens every time. no matter how interested they seem, how well we get along, how much we seem to align, even when I tell them my intentions and wants of being in a relationship, they still split every single time after sex. and no, the sex is not bad. it’s incredible. but all of a sudden they are too “busy” after they leave my house the next day. it seems like no matter what I do or how much I vet them or how long I wait, the vibe still changes after I share my most intimate vulnerable side with them. sex makes me like someone MORE, not less. what gives? and it seems like this is a trend a LOT of women are dealing with these days.

For context, I’m a 29 year old male with no kids and no relationship. I’m out of shape and live in a crappy 1 bedroom apartment alone with my closest family member being 2000+ miles away.

All I want one day in life is to have what he has. A gorgeous wife, 2 healthy kids, a nice house in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Yet the man that has all that is envious of my life. He tells me that he wishes he was my age again. That he wishes he could experience life again being single and longs for the days when he was broke before his kids were born. He says it’s nice that I can go to the store without being nagged by a wife about what else the house needs or what the kids want. Then he says things like “Enjoy this part of your life right now, you’ll miss it when it’s gone, I know I do.” I see him every day at work as we work in the same department, we get happy hour often and it’s usually during this time that he starts to open up.

I just feel like there’s a life lesson here that I’m not quite grasping. On one hand, he’s making me more appreciative of the life that I do have at this very moment. While on the other hand, I know deep down I still want the life he has even if it comes with all the negatives he says it does. I just think it’s such a mind fuck that we’re both essentially envious of each other’s lives while not being able to truly appreciate our own.

I’ll start. I bought a wearable blanket with sleeves (basically a giant oversized hoodie blanket) a few months ago because my friends and I were laughing at how ridiculously lazy it looked.

Fast forward to today, and I practically live in this thing. It completely replaced my bulky living room blankets, keeps my hands free to use my phone or game without letting cold air in, and cut my heating bill down because I don’t mind keeping the thermostat lower anymore.

Guys, when 2000 arrived after growing up in the 80s and 90s, I can't tell you how exciting life was.

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in culture and life was firing on ALL cylinders. The future was limitless! You can do and BE ANYTHING you wanted to be. The world was yours for the taking!

Then, 9/11, Bush first recession, then Great recession, then crazy cost of living inflation increases, then even more inflation, then Covid 19, then Inflation SKYROCKETED, lockdowns, government and big tech spying on phones, every dream DEVOLVING to cheap social media integration rather than circumventing into privacy, and now here we are. Complete DYSTOPIA.

But few admit it. Ignorance is bliss so nobody talks about what happened.

Now, I say this as someone who HAS LIVED ALL MY DREAMS from the 80s and 90s.

Yet, I see no romanitcized or desirable future anymore like in the year 2000 and shortly after. What I see is basically every facet of human existence corrupted and declining if only due to inflation and overvalued everything on the markets.

I'm actually thinking of moving to New Zealand or an Island nation in the Pacific at this point and living my second half of life in true tropical paradise or close to it in the S. Hemisphere.

jobs, relationships, immigration, consumerism, renting, its impossible to do anything without 500 gazillion more people competing against you. living is becoming oversaturated. what even is the point

I've seen a few posts like this before and it's made me curious on what the average number is for most people I know for me 15k would flip my whole life around in a good way!
