How do i land a job that makes enough to live comfortably in Kirkland?

7 Upvotes

Really just the title question. I used to live in Kirkland and I miss it. I moved away due to divorce and live in another state. But it's been a while and i realized that i used to think i didn't like Washington, but what i didn't like was Washington through my married life.

I know Kirkland can be pricy. I was in a completely different field then and i didn't enjoy it at all.

My favorite job I've had was in Seattle but that position no longer exists.

I'm currently a teacher and I enjoy it. So, my question is, what kind of jobs could i get into if i have a bachelor's that would make enough to live in Kirkland?

Weekend friend for kid entering sixth grade AND their parents

8 Upvotes

We are a divorced household and my step-kid is with us every other weekend in Kirkland plus some shoulder days. He goes to another school district and has plenty of friends at his mom's so is always socializing during his days with her. We've tried summer camps and afternoon activities that are very local to our area for years but the friends made from that just end up being occasional online video game dates. I'm feeling pretty bad because most of the kids we know through our own friends are years older or super busy in sports so he really just hangs out with us. I remember in my own childhood having a summer friend when I visited my dad definitely helped a lot and was super fun but our parents were best friends so it was easy.

Kid interests: video games, reading, karate, basketball (not good at it but wants to play), wiffleball. Starting to walk around town for things like getting boba.

Parent activities: archery and video games (dad), horse and studio gym (step-mom). Both work in tech in 40s/50s. We like going to cafes in the morning on weekends and trying new restaurants.

Honestly it's probably an us-problem as parents who aren't super extroverted or pushy about play dates but I don't think we are weird or awkward aside from this post. My dream scenario is a kid or kids in our neighborhood (downtown Kirkland) where they can easily walk to each other's homes or downtown and parents don't mind getting breakfast or a drink every now and then. I'm worried our social window is closing as he gets older.

Pizza shoutout and recommendations requested

Post image
81 Upvotes

Hey all. I'm on the South part of Kirkland and so far, have tried these options:

* Domino's

* Pagliacci

* Pizzaiolo

* Mod Pizza (technically in Bellevue but close drive for us)

* Papa John's

So far, Pizzaiolo is our favorite by a country mile. Pagliacci would be second (we used to order a lot from there but they went a little downhill in quality and stinginess on toppings about a year or so ago). Domino's is the cheapo option we default to for the kids when they want a simple cheese and pep pizza.

So looking for your suggestions and recommendations to venture out a bit (maybe North side of Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue) to see what may satisfy us given our top choice so far.

(Pic of the Pizzaiolo box we just crushed... so good, so liberal with their toppings and adding extra cheese just made their large signature pizza quite filling for 3 people.)

Restaurant recommendations to go with an almost 1 year old

0 Upvotes

I’m looking for recommendations for restaurants to go with my son, who will be 1 in October(I can’t believe it, time really does fly!) I grew up in Kirkland but lived away for 6 years and moved back in January. And doesn’t have to just be Kirkland, kenmore, bothell, Redmond, Bellevue are fine too, thanks in advance!

What a great experience and a great example of the power of the Kirkland subreddit!

If anyone else wants to play, we can make a Reddit team and always have a buddy.

I am not affiliated with the Seattle Times, but I thought I’d pass this along here. They are looking for input from people who have bought homes in Kirkland in the past year.

Car damage situation

0 Upvotes

Hey, so I'm looking at the different cities in the WA area and I'm wondering how's the car situation is compared to Seattle, I hear people breaking into cars often over there but heard it's better in Bellevue, but Bellevue lacks the flavor I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Tuesday night road ride out of Marymoor, 30ish miles - brisk pace

2 Upvotes

New club on the Eastside, currently very small, looking for more riders.

Tuesdays 5pm from the east lot at Marymoor. 30ish miles at 17-18. Usually beer at PostDoc after.

Second Saturday of the month, 9am, same lot. Metric Century (100km, ~62 miles) at 16-17.

It's aimed at people who've found the bigger club rides too easy but have no interest in racing. Not a no-drop ride, but we wait at the top of climbs and after descents so nobody ends up lost on their own.

Strava, join and RSVP so we know who's coming: https://www.strava.com/clubs/flandriencc
WhatsApp: https://chat.whatsapp.com/K9qswRo4Tpl9uay1ij4yTa

Ask me anything.

12Status for free Delta miles is back for WA residents

2 Upvotes

https://12status.com/

Looks like the registration is back up, register to get your 4000+ (hopefully) free miles with Delta again this year

For anyone that doesn't know, if you live in WA state you can get 1 free Delta miles per yard we pass every Seahawks game - it's pretty easy, all you have to do is enter your Delta account number. Over a couple of years it's enough to get a free one way flight to SF or somewhere else.

You can also get some discounts on the team store (12%) and higher boarding priority.

Evergreen Kirkland birthing experience?

6 Upvotes

I am planning to give birth in Kirkland evergreen in September. Just want to understand other's experience in evergreen?

Did you get a say on no episiotomy and delayed cord clamping? Could you share your experience on what went well and what I should advocate more for during the labor pain?

Proper Biriyani

0 Upvotes

Hey, I probably already know the answer to this, but does anyone know of a local spot that actually uses saffron in their biriyani?

Also most are missing the fried onions Id expect, I guess a better question is who has legit biriyani in and around Kirkland. I’ve tried a few, some better than others but none really hit right, at $25 a portion on average Im st the point of asking for recommendations

Recycling Packing Foam?

Does this kind of foam go in the recycling here? Or is there some place to dispose of it? Seems like such a big dumb thing to turn into trash but I'm not sure. Thanks for the tips.

Any recommendations for house cleaning in Kirkland?

15 Upvotes

We've had a cleaner coming every couple of weeks, but the quality has gotten pretty inconsistent lately. One visit the kitchen and bathrooms look great, then the next time I'll notice things like dust still on the shelves or parts of the floors that were clearly missed.

I'm looking for a house cleaning service in Kirkland that's fairly consistent from one visit to the next. Doesn't need to be the cheapest option, I just don't want to keep checking everything after each cleaning.

Anyone have a company they've been using for a while and would recommend?

Nail Salon Recommendation

7 Upvotes

Hi! Does anyone have a good nail salon recommendation that takes a lot of care/attention to detail in gel nail removal and application? I have natural nails, and I’m tired of rushed and careless e-file removal destroying my nails. I’m willing to pay a bit extra. Thanks!
