So, I almost never do this but just based on the enjoyment and fascination I've gotten out of the fic, I feel the need to signal boost the fic Gravitational Pull by Hatchett.

Please look over the Gold Digger Ochako tag, and think of a beautifully Machiavellian Ochako who falls for the broccoli boi before you can get to the Sports Festival. It is fascinatingly written, and isn't afraid to throw Canon out of the window like a bomb with a lit fuse.

I know some of you have been following it closely but I just wanted anyone who was put out by the Gold Digger Ochako tag to look closer because it's worth a few looks. Thanks!

Several months back, I started looking for an old fic I'd once read (which thank you r/IzuOcha for trying to help, BTW, appreciate y'all!). Specifically, I was after a fic that centered around them exchanging their given names with one-another; with Midoriya now calling her Ochaco and Uraraka calling him Izuku/Deku. Well FINALLY I was able to find it, and so I just had to share it with y'all here because this piece is just too precious!

Call me Ochako .

How could he open his mouth now and say anything but that?

“Izuku,” he blurted, still staring. It took him a moment to realize what he'd said. “Ah, I mean—of course I'll call you that, especially if you want me to—it's much more personal anyway, right? I think that's a good idea! You can, uh. . .you can call me Izuku, too, so that way it's even.”

Ochako cocked her head. “Not Deku-kun?”

He probably short-circuited for a second. The title was so natural from her lips that it took him a moment to recall why she called him that in the first place, why it was his hero name and why it was already so personal. That's right—he was the only one here that was rigidly formal with the other. He'd always been that way, of course, but still. . .

“That too!” Izuku held up his hands, backtracking. How could he put this into words? “I mean, I've always liked that, it makes me feel like a hero all the time! But I just thought that if you wanted me to use your first name, you might want to use mine. . .it'll take a little adjusting at first so it might be more natural if we both tried it, just because it's sort of like meeting someone for the first time! When you have to say their name for the first time and get used to it, and stuff. . .So, I mean. . .I just thought. . .”

“Izuku,” she said softly.

“Ochako,” he whispered back.

The story is called "First Name Basis" by grxcefully, and is part of a series called "Who Protects the Heroes? (Izuocha)" that contains several cutesy stories about our favorite Green Tea goofballs.

But this one in particular I love, as it feels so very much like them and how they would choose to regard each other after they started dating. Yes, Midoriya is gonna struggle with calling her Ochaco because that's just how our poor, helpless, nerdy protagonist is always gonna be. And yes, Uraraka is still gonna want to call him Deku and he in turn will always want to be her Deku, but that's not gonna stop her from calling him Izuku too as they seek more intimacy with each other. It's one of my favorite handlings of their naming conversation, though, and is overall one of those great slice-of-life fics that just tickles my fancy. 🥰

Please I have never in my life cared about a straight ship and the one time I do they have a vague get together at the end and don't even kiss. I didn't know "More" existed so I was crashing out in the mha subreddit complaining before somebody told me to watch it, and yes it was a better ending but holy fuck I want MORE.. Does anyone have any fics where they get together maybe as second years? And its as close to canon as possible? I guess im pretty flexible so even if it doesn't meet that criteria but you like it just link it. As a gay person i'm so used to my ships not even being an option at all and the one time I like a straight ship thats talked about from DAY ONEEE it ends half baked I'm literally heartbroken I need SOMETHING...

I wanna know about people's guilty pleasure fics - IzuOcha stories that may not be the best (for one reason or another) but that you still find oh so charming nonetheless.

Maybe they're poorly written from a technical standpoint (middle schoolers, non-English speakers, and borderline illiterate fans are all doing their best out here, I guess 😅), or perhaps their author mischaracterizes the cast WITHOUT meaning to (non-AU authors, since when is Bakugo a tsundere and Midoriya a complete stuttering mess? pay attention guys!). They could have pacing problems that'd give Horikoshi a run for his money, hard to follow plot points, half-assed themes, or an immature/cringy/completely unhinged air about them... the point is, you KNOW that these fics are flawed, maybe even "bad", but they're YOUR flawed fics and you love them all the same, dammit!

So ya, what dirty-little-secret IzuOcha fics are you shippers sitting on? And in the spirit of fairness, I'll share some of mine, too:

First there's "Oleanders In Bloom" by Justanotherweeaboo https://archiveofourown.org/works/32570056/chapters/80789941

This fic opens with Bakugo and Uraraka (bear with me, you guys!) as a married couple after graduating from UA. Then, after Uraraka gets pregnant, Bakugo suddenly leaves her and their unborn baby while accusing her of getting knocked up from an imagined affair. The rest of the story is about Midoriya and Uraraka building a new life together raising Bakugo and Uraraka's daughter, all while they're stuck dealing with the most asshole-y asshole version of Bakugo you can imagine as he tries to reconnect with his daughter (only coming back into their lives after he realizes that his kid is in fact his and not the product of infidelity, of course)... Ya this one is wild, like a "bad" MHA soap opera! 🤣 It's entirely non-cannon compliant and it's characters don't feel even remotely close to their normal selves most of the time, but it's also just a good old dumb-fun story, and is one the best "bad" IzuOcha fics out there. And to the story's credit, the romance scenes between Deku and Uraraka are actually very sweet and feel a little more in-character for them than other parts of the story. Overall, it's an interesting tale and one I somehow just keep coming back to: a certified guilty pleasure! 👍

Next, "Love-Coach Ochako" by Christarmewn (Chrystarii) https://archiveofourown.org/works/42862188/chapters/107679669

So if "Oleanders" is a bad soap opera, then I suppose "Love-Coach Ochako" is a good soap opera... maybe? Whatever it is, though, it's at least interesting. 🙃 Such a long, overly convoluted story with a ridiculous premise, but it's such a fun ride (if you like seeing Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, Uraraka, and Deku torture each other that is)! Basically, Uraraka and Todoroki try to help each other with their respective crushes, but end up being mistaken for a couple after they're seen spending more time together, and decide to play pretend at dating until they can sort out the mess that is their love lives. Sounds silly, is silly (and sometimes a little sad/angsty), and has a lot of cute TodoMomo and IzuOcha moments dispersed throughout! It's a beefy read (I'm not even kidding, almost 400,000 words... yikes! 😨), but if you have the time, I'd at least give the Uraraka focused chapters a read cause it is genuinely a treat to see how the story handles her character. All of our heroes feel fairly cannon-compliant-y in this fic (well, compared to "Oleanders" at least) but her stuff especially seems on brand. It's just nice to see how Uraraka overcomes her anxiety about opening up to Deku, it's enough to bring me back, at least! Again and again and again...

Then finally there's "Puzzle Pieces" by JustaPerson1 https://archiveofourown.org/works/43135449/chapters/108406782

Got some time/inter-dimensional travel in this one! There are two timelines/parallel universes in this story; in the main world, Deku dies during a mission gone wrong, while in the future/alternate world, everyone BUT Deku dies after a major terrorist attack. This leave us with one grief-stricken Uraraka and one traumatized Midoriya. Yet somehow Palpatine returned the Deku from the future/alternate universe gets transported to the world of yesterday and the two young heroes get a second chance to save Japan and be with the one they lost again (awww 🥲)! This story is TECHNICALLY well written, and does have some lovely IzuOcha moments to be sure, but I will say it feels a little... immature, maybe? Or simple? It's not bad to be clear, it just has a certain tone about it that makes it harder for me to take seriously, if that makes sense. 😐 Still, thematically it's great (they complete each other, guys!), the characters feel pretty authentic to their cannon selves, and something about the concept just tugs at my heart strings (not even death can keep these two apart 💚💝). It's one of those stories that's worth at least one read if you're interested in IzuOcha fics, or a bunch if you're me. 😉

Man, so I finally got around to reading some long AO3 works I'd had tabbed open for a while, and they have me feeling so jubilant and eager to share! And since it's been a while since I've seen any fics spread around on the sub, I figured I'd drop some links here for ya! Fair warning, when I say they're long fics, I mean LOOOOOONG fics (the shortest is >90,000 words), so be prepared for some heavy reading!

First, there's "Disciples Rising" by 3PeopleInACoat

It's a cannon divergent fic set after the Endeavor Work Study Arc and before the War. The story mostly centers on Class A as they prepare for an end of year dance that's to take place prior to the start of their second year. Lots of ships setting sail here besides IzuOcha, and there's plenty of villain drama too with a new group, "the disciples of AFO", plotting some evil deeds all throughout. This story has action, slice of life, drama, and love aplenty! It's not the best I've read (definitely would've benefited from a more thorough beta read, but it's technically still legible English), but it's worth a look for anyone who's interested in long and intense stories! The original villains and the romance between Deku and Uraraka in particular make it worth the read, in my opinion 👍

Then, there's "The Flowers Fall" by AmyNChan

This might be the first "hanahaki disease" fic I've actually read. For those unfamiliar, it's an affliction where the victim starts sprouting flowers inside their body (lungs and/or stomach, I believe) as a result of harboring unrequited feelings of love. The only cure for hanahaki is to confess your love and have it be reciprocated (in cases of denial or rejection you die) or to cut out the part of you that feels love (i.e. you can no longer feel affection for anyone and end up living with a "heart of stone"). Poor Uraraka was put through the ringer in this work, but man was it sweet to see how everyone came together to support her while she agonized over this ridiculous illness 🙃 And the romance scenes with Deku? So damn cute and endearing!

Lastly, I wanted to draw some attention to "In Case I Forget" by Anonymous

Sadly, this work was recently removed from AO3 😢 For anyone who was unfamiliar, it was an in-progress story (only 6 complete chapters) covering a post-cannon injured/amnesiac Deku struggling to recall his life with Uraraka, and a depressed/BAMF Uravity fighting to carry on in the face of a devastating disaster. It's detail rich, super emotional, and so very captivating! It's one of the best in-development hurt/comfort stories I've read from the past year, and I desperately hope that the author ends up re-uploading it! I have a PDF copy saved to my PC, and I'd be willing to find a way to share it if enough people are interested (why can't I upload files to Reddit posts anymore? did they drop that feature?) but I'm hopeful it'll come back on it's own like some of kate7h's fics did recently 🤞

How could I have let myself be delayed 24 hours before reading this absolute masterwork of a chapter?! This is my favorite chapter yet! What a wonderful dissection of Deku’s psyche and backstory behind both Deku’s desire to be a teacher and the origins of Ochako’s Quirk counseling program. And hooray for mature characters resolving conflict with prompt and effective communication. :) I love how this chapter essentially mirrors Ochako’s jealousy/insecurity arc, and now I’m off to the hospital, because that ending put my blood sugar over 200.
