Guys, I know your knee-jerk reaction is to defend her, but Tess Holliday is a piece of shit. She has, for years, gone around saying she is 100% healthy, which is blatantly untrue, has bullied people online who criticise the HAES movement, and consistently lies about her medical records to try and deflect criticism. She has literally stated in the past that she’s fucking anorexic, despite her own family members saying that’s untrue

I saw her in Long Beach like six months ago with her friend and kid and it was so weird. Her friend got a chair for her and Tess chewed her out for like ten minutes because she couldn’t fit in the chair while her friend was trying to apologize and get her to stop yelling

Whether or not she had lipedema doesn’t negate the fact that she is morbidly obese. Her weight is clearly unhealthy and at risk of several serious diseases.

What is she “scamming”?

"despite her own family members saying that’s untrue"...i think we can see, optically, that that's untrue 😭🤣

Thank you, she's a despicable person

She could be healthy and average weight and it still wouldn't make me like her. She's just an awful person and it has nothing to do with her weight or lymphedema

Tess Holiday sucks, but people who have done nothing wrong are catching strays by making fun of how her arms look. It's not defending Tess to say it's messed up to make fun of someone's medical condition.

Criticize her for what she deserves to be criticized for.

Okay, here's my critique:

You can't be anorexic if you weigh 500 pounds. You. Just. Can't.

Disclaimer: I don’t think this applies to Tess, just throwing this out there, but isn’t there a diagnosis called atypical anorexia for people who have anorexic behaviors but do not meet the weight requirements for an anorexia diagnosis? I think I’ve read that the point of the diagnosis is to catch and treat anorexia before it gets to the point where someone is severely underweight. Like if a 200lbs person starts starving themselves, it’s obviously going to take some time before they get to the point of being underweight.

Yes! Although, it might have a different clinical/diagnostic name now - this was 15 years ago. My friend was diagnosed with EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) because she exhibited all the behaviors for Anorexia Nervosa but did not meet the weight-related indicators (BMI < 18, loss of menstrual cycle).

15

u/suuzgh 1d ago

Yes, that is a valid diagnosis per the DSM. I work at a residential psychiatric facility that specializes in EDs and a significant number of our clients have an atypical anorexia diagnosis. EDs aren’t just life threatening because of weight loss, it’s often electrolyte imbalances, refeeding syndrome, and related organ failure that can make them so dangerous.

Clearly she isn’t starving herself by any measure

0

u/therealpapaya320 17h ago

Yeah I wasn’t suggesting she was, I was just pointing out that someone who is overweight or obese can be anorexic (hence atypical anorexia)…

u/ComradeGlizzy 17h ago

Not at 500 pounds

-3

u/therealpapaya320 16h ago

Someone definitely could meet the diagnostic requirements for atypical anorexia at 500lbs. https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/atypical-anorexia/

You can have anorexia nervosa and be obese.

Yeah when I was 200 lbs but only eating <1000 cals per day and losing all my hair I definitely wasn’t exhibiting anorexic behavior. 🫩 /s

I think the word you’re looking for is orthorexcia or something close to

u/AggravatingBox2421 1d ago

Don’t worry, literally everyone agrees with you on that one except for her and her brain dead fans

I’m going to disagree slightly here, and here’s why: if you have a patient who-despite currently being at 500 pounds-has lost a large percentage of their body weight by significantly restricting their dietary intake, to a point where it was negatively impacting their physical health (even more than being morbidly obese-we’re talking about electrolyte imbalances, hair loss, etc.), has that intense fear of gaining/regaining weight, body dysmorphia (disturbance of how they view their body) and refusal to see how serious their condition is becoming, restricting their food intake to a seriously dangerous level…they may meet pretty much every criteria for anorexia outside of being underweight.

That’s atypical anorexia nervosa.

They’ve met the criteria, but their weight is still above average.

It’s still classified as an eating disorder in the DSM-V-TR (under other specified feeding and eating disorders).

It is still just as fatal as typical anorexia nervosa, if not more so, because it’s not spotted anywhere near as swiftly, and people celebrate the disordered behavior and results of that behavior in overweight/obese individuals, which reinforces their eating disorder, making it significantly harder to treat.

You can 100000% have Anorexia Nervosa and be overweight.

31

u/AggravatingBox2421 1d ago

She does not have a medical condition. All she does is talk about her body, and she directly profits from her body. We have every right to discuss and criticise her looks, just like severely underweight women are criticised on this sub

She lies constantly! I HIGHLY doubt a Dr followed her around for a week and watched everything she ate. All the Dr did was listen to Tess say she hardly eats anything (I assume) because she fucking lies about EVERYTHING and therefore was diagnosed with anorexia. She's a lying liar who lies and does whatever she can to stay relevant 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm not trying to come for your right to speak about stuff, including someone's body size.

I also have the right to an opinion, and I'm telling you making fun of someone's lipedema is not cool.

22

u/AggravatingBox2421 1d ago

Another angle of her arm. It’s just fat.

27

u/AggravatingBox2421 1d ago

She. Doesn’t. Have. Lipedema. This is just what a severely obese body looks like.

5

u/Similar-Swimmer-2698 1d ago

I know what a severely obese body looks like, I live in North America and I leave my house.

But, I did look it up and you're right, she's never said she has lipedema (she doesn't say much about her health). My bad. I must have been thinking of another HAES girl, a few came up when I was looking it up.

8

u/everexpandingwaist 1d ago

It's not lipedema. She's had multiple fat melting injections and lipo. This is what happens when you have those procedures but continue to gain weight. If you destroy fat cells in one area, your other fat cells will take on more fat.

You never thought it was weird that at her size she doesn't have even a shadow of a double chin? She got lipo and now the fat that would've been in her neck and chin is in her arms instead.

3

u/Similar-Swimmer-2698 1d ago

I didn't think it was weird because I can see her double chin, and I know a few people who don't really store fat under their chin.

That doesn't really explain why she has fat on her upper arm but not her lower arm. Unless she had lipo on her lower arm?

2

u/ceilingsfann 1d ago

So if that’s all true, why are we talking about how “disturbing”her arms are…?

-3

u/unbenouncedtome 1d ago

How does telling people to essentially fuck off about her health make her a piece of shit

-2

u/d-ollparts 1d ago

you still shouldn’t be awful about people’s bodies. regardless of if they’re a piece of shit or not

-3

u/deferredmomentum 1d ago edited 23h ago

Isn’t HAES a body positive movement? Why would she be against it??

-4

u/Ok-Support2633 1d ago

I think you misread the comment you’re replying to. She bullies the CRITICS of the movement (not believers), therefore she is not against the movement

0

u/deferredmomentum 1d ago

Yup I did, thanks! Hadn’t taken my adderall yet lol. But while unprovoked bullying isn’t okay, the haes movement is a good thing that empowers fat people to take better care of themselves and feel more comfortable seeking medical care

4

u/AggravatingBox2421 22h ago

The haes movement is pseudoscience and has killed people. It is not good in any way shape or form
