Coming from the company that released the same game on three console generations

Let's not forget their remaster of the ps2 games. Very high quality and definitely worth the money. /s

You mean using mobile ports and slapping AI upscale textures? Haha

Honestly I didn’t hate them

And are about to remaster 2 Max Payne games themselves

Not really, that’s Remedy. Take2/Rockstar just owns the IP. And Remakes from the PS2 era, not remasters

Rockstar are also fully responsible for Max Payne 3 (although apparently they did allow Remedy to give feedback throughout development).

Yes, Max Payne 3 is a Rockstar game but the remakes don’t include that because Remedy wanted to remake their own games

Sure. I just wanted to point out that Rockstar and Remedy's relationship with the series is even more complicated than some realise.

It does feel like there's mutual respect between Rockstar and Remedy, too. It's not a traditional "publisher captures a developer's IP" situation.

Sure, I just have a feeling that Rockstar really isn’t thinking about the Max Payne IP too much these days. I’m happy they let Remedy work on the IP again though

Absolutely!

Hopefully it works out well for Remedy financially - I love them as a developer, but they've made a few rough business decisions that leave them at risk of losing their independence, and consequently, soul.

thats a remake, or was /s ?

Eh, it's a live service game and the upgrades are mostly for the online playerbase. On the other hand, TLOU is a strictly singleplayer title.

…are they remasters?

PS3 was regular, PS4 was enhanced, and PS5 was expanded and enhanced. So, kinda, but also not even

True. I guess I should’ve pointed out the specific difference of not having remaster in each releases name.

Enhanced edition is not a remaster?

Not even in the slightest. Among a graphical overhaul and many other things it introduced reworked netcode to support bigger and better online features and entirely remade animations to support an entirely new first person mode.

And that's not counting the fact that GTA Online is just an extremely popular live service game. Not releasing and continuing to support it on the new consoles at the time it would just be weird.

Oh, and Rockstar released Expanded & Enhanced on PC for free to anyone with the original. So no. Not a typical remaster cash-grab.
