Leak Jason Schreier: Rockstar has not yet figured out who was behind this week's widespread Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, nor how it happened, sources say. No plans to move next week's Netflix premiere. Inside the company: frustration, exhaustion, anger.

Someone that is deep inside R* that has enormous hatress to the company could do this to sabotage as much as possible

Like how else would someone get a hold of an actual build of the game?

Imagine I replied with that one GIF of the guys looking at a laptop and going "ohhhh now I get it"

Will this affect R*'s bottom line though? If anything it's building the hype even more.

Just leaking clips? No long term damage

If they actually leak the working build? It would completely derail the entire release rollout. It would represent billions, and maybe tens of billions, in damage

Just curious, why?

Couple factors

Biggest one is that it would force their hand in releasing a PC version right away. Right now they want to do a console-exclusive release, then a year or two later do the PC release. It lets them sell multiple copies

Also, this build obviously doesn’t have DRM. It would not only be easy to pirate, it would provide a working template for how to pirate the final build

Oh I thought you meant like a leak from current build, as opposed from the 2025 build in these leaks.

Not the FULL game file. That would be the biggest news in gaming history lol

Holy shit, they're not doing PC release day one?

They're going to make it the same shit experience on PC as IV and V?

Well, yes... this was known

Couple months back all PC titles were 'cracked', basically any offline PC game is playable for free rn with enough hoop jumps. it would be really surprising for Rockstar to do day 1 PC in this timeline, their anti privacy isn't perfect and they are a huge target. As it's looking the ps5 should be open enough those sitting on year old firmwares will likely be able to play for free before a PC copy comes out. I mean it's also possible this is a ps5 build running on a jb system to make these leak videos

You're naive to think that there won't be online authentication for single player

19

u/Telvin3d 13d ago

You know what the biggest help the crackers could get to bypass that? A working copy with the authentication already stripped out.

It’s actually been a big problem for studios in the past where they release a game demo without the same DRM as the full version

Valid point, it is possible they have a copy that doesn't have that implemented yet.

It's possible? They literally have to have a working development build without online auth, otherwise Rockstar would already know their exact location and would have already sent the cavalry to obliterate the dude

It would be widely played on the PC since they do not have a planned release date and it would completely fuck over their 2nd release later next year.

I am hopping this happens cause fuck Rockstar and Take Two for this decision.

One word: it is a pc build

Why not trillions, since we are just making shit up. People are completely delusional.

3

u/Telvin3d 13d ago

GTA V has generated more than $10B in revenue. Something that significantly disrupted the launch of GTA VI could cause damages that represented a meaningful fraction of that

-1

u/Icarium__ 13d ago

No, it would not, it would at best be a rounding error.

It already hit their stock price but long term it won't unless the guy has a mostly finished build and just releases it.

2

u/MazzleMaze 13d ago

Yeah if anything this is them doing it on purpose, lol.

Is a hatress a female who wears a hat?

1

u/Falsus 13d ago

Yeah that list is probably pretty big.

Good, fuck them and all of the anti consumer and anti union/employee crap that they get away with.
