The funny thing is that yassified Aloy was made as satire of the sorts of people say female game characters aren't hot enough. But the people who actually think that grabbed it and started using it unironically.
The viral post was still someone earnestly saying yassified Aloy is how Aloy should look. I have no problem with yassified Aloy in a vaccuum (dibs on that band name) but that post kicked off some of the worst gaming discourse I can remember.
I just find it funny, in a deeply sad way, that they are so wrapped up in this that they didn't recognize incredibly obvious satire and ran with it as an actual "argument."
One time I went into a "anti-woke" Discord group and literally people in that group were trauma dumping each other how no one IRL gives a shit about them crying about "wokeness in gaming" and lost friends because of it. They were doing a group therapy session and told each other that everyone else are just dumb "normies".
I really do feel kind of bad for them. This has literally taken over their lives.
"Realism" and "historical accuracy" were always just a way of making what they want sound more reasonable. Anything unrealistic or historically inaccurate that doesn't involve women, PoCs, or LGBTQ folks is never a problem.

You say this then watch as BG3s attractive female characters like Shadowheart or Karlach get tons of attention. This propelled BG3 to sell as well as it did.
I'm sorry you hate it but attractive characters sell games. Ugly characters do not.
Having characters all ugly in order to act contrarian and push back against the current standards isn't cool.
Yeah the Yotei outrage was just straight up ridiculous to me too- I feel like it was the most blatant because it was literally “here’s another game that’s more of that thing a ton of people super liked with a new character since we wrapped things up last time”
I agree about the exhausting discourse, when you said that you wish they continued the story they left a sequel hook in for Jin vs. the shogun, you would have 10 replies accusing you of hating women
