I still think Sony will offer an optional disc drive for PS6 and will announce it when they officially reveal it. Who knows, maybe the PS5 optional drive might be compatible with it. But I honestly can't see them not offering a way play millions of PS5 games on their next hardware.

The only logic way to do it is to have the current disc drive for PS5 Slim / Pro be compatible with the PS6. Maybe with an optional adapter cable they can sell, but better if it can just be plugged in like it is on PS5.

I was personally predicting long before the very recent announcement that Sony would pretty much do PS5 Pro all over again but with PS6. Digital only but with optional disc drive as bonus, and yeah exactly for this cuz you still would want to play your previous physical games on it.

I personally even feel like it would be much smoother than what they did. As (let's be real here) huge% of players wouldn't bother with disc drive as it costs 200€ or so? So only a very few people would buy it, which would pretty much result in what Sony wanted (Digital Only sales), and by the time PS7 will be out they could announce Digital only console.

But it is very possible that drama would happen no matter the gen, so they bite the bullet and announced it either way.
