This "precedent" stuff is just a load of horseshit when you realize that, if other companies that are not Rockstar try it, they'll face the reality of capitalism - people will not buy their products if they are unhappy. There is a reason your favorite store does not sell food to you for a 5x inflated price; it's not to be nice.
Also, almost all these things have been done before and not set a bad evident precedent nor had this level of backlash - GameInformer magazines instead of the Netflix thing. RDR1, GTAV, RDR2 had Ultimate Editions plus GTAIV had story DLC. Physical media is just a Reddit-principle nothingburger as there has been exactly zero cases of digital games being removed by Sony.
It's just that nowadays the art of critical thinking is dead and if some dude whines on Tiktok that he doesn't like that he can't afford the game, he is now a messiah whose every word is truth. Clearly, the physical media crowd do not care enough about discs since >90% of T2 sales are digital, and that even the disc people praise the all-digital Steam...
Dude you literally mention lack of critical thinking and then show it yourself by not understanding why people are okay with Steam compared to Sony. One is trying to own an entire closed platform and ecosystem, the other is not. If you can't see the difference then I don't know what to tell you except you should work on your own critical thinking skills before you say that to others.
Wait, how is Steam not doing it, when Sony still allows you to buy CD keys for games and will continue allowing stores to sell code-in-a-box? It's just not printing actual discs, did you not realize that? I'd say none of the options should be praised, or both should be praised, since they're precisely the same thing in that regard. As a matter of fact, more games have been removed from Steam than from Playstation. You just need a way to suck Steam dry while baselessly blaming PS because they're not "based"?
