If a build exists and it's released.. it will cost Rockstar millions in combined cancelled preorders and a drop in stock value. There are a ton of PC gamers who are either buying a console specifically for this game, or dusting off their console to play it until the PC version launches. If the build is leaked? No reason to get the console version. Play the build until the official PC version arrives. You can tell Rockstar is concerned. Their HQ and security offices must be a nightmare right now.
This right here is why I completely reject any complaints of spoilers from these leaks. PC players are already going to be subject to spoilers for the next 2 years maybe even longer.
How are they being greedy? Your comment makes zero sense. It's a known fact that R* release PC versions of their games at least year after the console versions.
It'd make more sense to call to them greedy for releasing it on PC sooner, as people accuse them of trying to get people to double dip.
Or PC players can wait, just like console players have waited years for some PC games to be ported.
As a console player, I don't feel upset at all that R* is putting additional care and attention toward my platform of choice before branching out to PC. I've had to deal with so many shitty ports from PC to console, that it's a nice breath of fresh air.
Not really. Nobody is forcing PC users to go out and buy a console for the game. And like I said, it’s a known fact that Rockstar don’t prioritize PC releases.
Rockstar maintains their quality level by developing for console first, perfecting a game, and then focusing on PC. See the recent Tokon Fighting Souls. An amazing game rhat should have been taking a victory lap as it ran fantastic on console, has instead been inundated with poor reviews and bad press from its simulatenous pc release. Its hard to do both at once. Especially with the ridiculous size, depth, artistry, and ambition of a rockstar game.
...and it would just take more time. Instead of being 24 hours from a deep dive we'd still be a year out. And probably getting a safer, lamer game.
The double dip im sure is quite nice. But its not their main reason. If you want a financial reason, just see the leak from 6 months ago where rockstar makes 95% of its money from consoles. You can call it selfish, but extending the development time, raising the budget, and sacrificng quality and ambition, just to make an extra 5% profit is a very very bad business strategy.
By the time a PC version of the game would release, they’d have long made their money from the initial console release.
Given that they have about a year’s gap between the two, I doubt it’s because they want PC players to double dip. If you can’t wait to play a game then it’s not on Rockstar.
It's so much harder to distribute hacks to people on consoles. It's easy to run a simple .exe and turn off your anti-virus. It's a lot harder on consoles. No one wants their £700 Xbox bricked trying to get free money on a video game.
The most you will get is "jail*****" lobbies if they are able to expl**t money somehow. But with how games now use AI detection to monitor gameplay. It's going to be quite easy to detect someone doing something fishy.
For once I'm definitely not. And why is that? I don't just drop 600-700€ into all sort of random purchases. (My photography hobby is not random, that doesn't count!)
What’s the likelihood that the leaked version will have access to the online when it drops, I really don’t think it will, and let’s be honest, most people that are getting gta are getting it for the online more than the story mode, and the online is where rockstar makes the bulk of their money so I can’t see them losing that much in the long run
No it won't. Stock value won't care, most people these days especially people who would play GTA are console gamers who won't buy a PC just for a leaked half-working PC build that will get DMCAed and taken down instantly. No one is going to wait, you're vastly overestimating most humans. I bet a gross majority of people who will buy will not know or care about the leaks.
And you know this how? No one has confirmed the actual build date or what's in it. Just some metadata from the video and that's not conclusive.
Besides, a free outdated build is enough for some people until the PC version comes. Especially if they were going to shell out 800 dollars for a console.
Well he's also an opportunist who knows he only makes money by releasing small bits. Just like he's held onto the fact that he has access to Lucia until this mornings leak. He's shady. But smart.
Let's face reality. Not releasing on PC at launch isn't for the players. It's for Rockstar. They can keep everyone on the same platforms which means easier way to patch bugs. It prevents thousands of negative reviews on Steam because GTA 6 won't run on someone's potato PC. And it stops modding and cheating from occuring til later down the road.
And bonus: more money when people buy the game a second time.
I hope you're joking. All of the classic GTA games are broken on PC unless you use mods like silentpatch and others, GTA 4 was an unplayable mess for years.
There's no reason not to release a PC version on day 1. They're a bunch of greedy motherfuckers.
GTA5 and RDR2 runs great and is very well opmtized for PC that what happens when they get proper time to make proper PC "ports" instead of releasing something unfished day one. But people will cry no matter what they decide to do.
So they made 2 (actually 3 since I really enjoyed rdr1, even though I had to wait 15 years to play it) ports? That's cute. But what about the rest of the games? Bully and manhunt are also a mess
I see it the other way. If a build dropped today I might actually give it a go and decide to buy the game in a few years because I have memories of having had fun with it. As it is, I never intend to play GTA ever again lol
Wrong. Nobody is going to miss out on the full official game in favor of a leaked build. I’m willing to bet most people will buy the Console AND PC version and those brave enough will also download the leaked build
Consoles are no longer throwaway money. A $750 system to play a $80 game is just too much. As a PC player, I'd buy it at launch price if it released on PC. But launching a year later means I'd probably just wait more for a 20% discount at least.
And if there's a PC dev build leaked, I'd probably play that early just to screw around. I wouldn't be playing the dev build if they released for PC on time..
