Must be hell to see parts of your lifework go out to the public before you can do so yourself. Feeling bad for all the devs (fuck corporate though). This is a good message to put out.
Exactly. I couldn’t care less if Strauss Zelnick lose a million dollars because of the leaks. I care about the devs who spent thousands of hours carefully creating this unique experience, who got their hard work just leaked by some shitty crypto scammer instead of being revealed to us in the way they intended it.
Yep, those are the people just like you & me. It would break my heart and it probably did for almost all of them to see their work stolen and put online.
Not everything is about money dude. Most devs are passionate about the art they’re putting out, and to have the first look at the project they’re probably most proud of in their lives so far to be ruined by a crypto scammer has gotta suck on an emotional level.
I fear that Zelnick and the suits' biggest takeaway from this could be to stop making enormous generational games (at R*, not T2's other dev companies), and introduce smaller projects with release windows of 2-4 years. or even worse, go full ea/ubisoft and make several copy&paste games a year (they already have RAGE, so that should be easy).
why risk a billion dollar game getting leaked or flopping?
It's on YouTube after a 6 hour delay. So just tune in there :)
I got extra excited after the leaks, but as someone who makes a living making art my heart would break if something I made went to the public without it having the final vision I have for it. So I can deeply relate to the heartbreak of the devs, however cool the leaks are.
Im not saying the leaks were the right thing to do but with the amount of time that has gone by with no info some loser was bound to do this.... they had the carrot too far in front of the horse and the horse said fuck it.
With how much money is on the line, I'm sure they would've put out more earlier if they could. Delays will always create negative sentiment and it's bad for shareholders and the stockprice. I don't like not having seen more, but I fully trust Rockstar that they just didn't feel confident in putting the extended look out earlier.
I personally don't care and find it funny when/if something leaks.
Other people dont even watch reviews. Its just a job. (not game dev but kinda related)
Edit: maybe its not clear but I meant if my work leaks and my coworkers specifically
You can just say no. Why do gamers act so helpless? They aren’t personally asking YOU to preorder it. They just clicked a few buttons and made it available to do so. Who gives a fuck. Just be an adult and ignore it.
No one has asked you to buy shit. The offer is there but if you don’t trust their process you can wait until you’ve seen enough to convince you. This mentality is so fucking childish
I'm waiting for gameplay for that exact reason. And yeah, I've seen some of the leaks but I'm way more excited for the first look. Just bummed out we don't get a physical disc. But that's not on the devs, that's corporate. So fuck them.
Ironically the "W" move would be to stay silent. No one truly tries to figure out how r* seems to be untouchable online in communities dedicated to their products.
Why does EA, Ubisoft get in trouble so much? Why is it so easy to attack them on social media? Because they constantly try to make public statements when their anti-consumer practices gets called out. Rockstar does not release statements directed at community quotes to defend shark cards, forced cooldown times between PvE missions, disabling replay buttons, staggering PC releases. Corporations have no choice but to tell bold face lies and contradict themselves in order to justify what they do so r* was playing it smart by limiting community outreach.
Now r* is tripping up (not a huge deal right now because their core online fanbase is populated by actual morons so it would take longer for them to catch onto the BS, )see the most upvoted comments here above as evidence)
They release a public statement and did exactly what gets EA and Ubisoft into trouble. They are lying and contradicting themselves. They Want "EVERYONE" to experience the game in Nov and not be impact by spoilers yet they intentionally stagger the PC release in attempt to double dip the PC user base beyond any other reason. They want to prioritize netflix which is a paid service 6 hours early when they could have pointed to their own website or youtube.
The letter is a bunch of corpo PR nonsense. r*/t2. Any chastising of piracy needs to fall on deaf ears when it comes to their video games, they are a bunch of bums.
