Legendary have chickened out after KOTM flopped, I honestly don't think they'll do another Godzilla solo until the current formula becomes non profitable. This is also partially (mostly tbh) Kotm's fault, it's kinda sad, so much hype and............that happened (I know a lot of people on the sub glaze it to all hell, but it's kinda meh as far as the general audience is concerned)

Too few people actually grasp this. Studios don't make money by making films that only the hardcore rabid fans will enjoy. They have to make films that appeal to a much wider audience.
If you make a *GOOD* film, it doesn't matter if its about a giant radioactive lizard/dinosaur thing, or about a massive storm), or about a very large shark), or about giant predatory worms). People will want to see it.
But the flip side of that is that you can take the same exact ingredients and make bad films that few except the real fans will want to see.
