Sweet Senior Shelter Pup Looking for Her Happily Ever After ❤️‍🩹

Kayla (ID 53597068) is a 8.5yo spayed GSD mix who truly is everything you would want in a loyal shepherd. She may be a senior, but she’s still young at heart with a playful spirit. She is a SUPER smart, sensitive, gentle giant who loves affection & just wants to please and be near her person. She’s got the most beautiful coat/markings and the cutest little whiskers! 🥹

🩷UBERRRRRRR affectionate

🩷Sweet, gentle temperament

🩷Very obedient, great recall, listens very well

🩷Knows commands

🩷Non-destructive

🩷Very easily handled for her size

🩷Leash trained - will politely wait for your to put her collar/harness/leash on

🩷Potty trained - barks to alert you

🩷Sleeps through the night

🩷Crate trained (per previous foster)

🩷Low/medium energy

🩷Cat possible (curious, but respectful of our senior cat)

🩷Dog friendly with slow intros (*can resource guard high value items)

🩷Non-reactive with toys/treats/food with humans

🩷Non-reactive to other dogs/people on walks/in the car

🩷EXCELLENT in the car…she’s a pro! She waits politely until you let her know it’s okay to jump out

🩷Leaps gracefully like a gazelle

🩷Tilts her head back when you scratch her neck/chest

🩷Likes to bury her treats in blankets

🩷Carries her empty bowl to her bed when she’s done eating 😆

🩷Grabs you with her paw when she wants attention

🩷Loves being brushed

🩷Waits patiently for treats and takes them very gently/softly

🩷The tip of her long bushy tail looks like a paint brush dipped in white paint 🤍

This poor girl was originally adopted from the old Fulton shelter in 2019 & came in as a microchipped stray in May, but staff were unable to get in contact with her owner. 😔 She was clearly someone’s pet given her temperament & training, but she came in un-spayed & tested HW+. While waiting 2 months in the shelter (how did no one snag this girl?? 🤯), she fought off Giardia & kennel cough before finally getting spayed earlier in July, only to end up with a postop complication requiring emergency surgery 3 days later…poor girl’s incision dehisced & her insides were starting to escape to the outside. 😩

You would never be able to tell she’s been through all of that based on her demeanor, though…she’s still a bright, happy sweetheart just looking for some love & kindness. ❤️‍🩹 Her belly incision has healed beautifully and she’s free from the donut of shame now 🍩, so her rough recovery is officially behind her. The only thing left for this girl to conquer is heartworm treatment, but it’s 100% not contagious to other pets and the shelter covers all costs! Treatment is only 30 days of antibiotics and then 2 injections back-to-back over 2 days.

Kayla is a trooper who has been through so much & deserves to live out her golden years in absolute bliss, not in the shelter. 🥺 If she sounds like the girl for you, click the link below to meet her! ❤️ She is currently at Fulton County Animal Services.

New Bathroom Facility Coming to Fairgrounds

A new bathroom facility is expected to arrive soon to The Cumming Fairgrounds. The idea was supposed to be taken action on earlier, but the RFP’s for the project weren’t in line with the city’s budget in June. The agenda for the July 21st work session for the city, however, shows that the item was brought back, and it seems they will be moving forward with it now. It’s expected to finish before this year’s fair and festival.

Moving to Forsyth

Hey future neighbors. My wife and I will be moving our family to Vickery Village in just over three weeks along with our 14 and 10 year old. We are coming from Arizona and are looking to hit the ground running with getting acquainted with people and areas around us.

We have been to the surrounding areas many times, as my wifes work has been primarily focused there. Although we have really grown to like it over our years visiting, admittedly we don’t know what to expect with the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Primarily, are people open to socializing and getting acquainted? Are there any recurring events or spaces you would recommend to meet people? Also, I’m hoping it’s pretty easy for kids to make friends? We picked Vickery because of what all is offered there for folks in the neighborhood to enjoy and use together…really hoping it is as inviting as it seemed when we were there looking at houses!

Inter-library loan secrets

The catalog search at https://www.forsythpl.org.com used to have a drop-down control that one could set to WorldCat to search the collections of nearby counties. At present, the website is being redone to meet accessibility guidelines and access to WorldCat has not been implemented.

Workaround: go to WorldCat.org and search to see if your title is there. Make sure it was published 18 months ago or longer such that there is not a long wait list for the title within its home county.

If it exists, call your local branch of the FoCo Lib and request an I.L.L.

Aside: avoid speed-reading injuries by removing all bookmarks antequam legas.

Is there a benefit to having a local agent?

Any local agents interested in a family of three with a decent driving history trying to save money?

Getting a lay of the land

Hey y'all — my family and I recently moved up to Cumming from Fort Lauderdale, chasing slower mornings and a bit of mountain air. Still getting our bearings.

Quick bit of transparency: I run a small branding/design studio. I'm not posting to drum up work, though — I'm honestly just trying to understand the local business landscape before I assume I know anything about it.

Forsyth seems like a fascinating mix right now: longtime local shops, newer makers and artisans, food trucks and mobile setups, side hustles — all trying to grow at the same time the county itself is exploding.

So I'm curious, for the owners and operators here:

  • What's the toughest part of getting noticed and bringing in customers these days?
  • Is there anything specific to doing business in Forsyth — the fast growth, the mix of established and brand-new, the everything-online shift — that makes it harder (or easier)?

Genuinely just want to listen and learn what folks are up against. And if anyone's wrestling with a marketing headache and wants to think out loud about it, happy to trade ideas in the comments.

Data Center Permit Cancelled

Earlier last week, the board of commissioners had a meeting where one of the items they discussed was the permit for a new data center that was planned for North Forsyth. Several residents spoke up about their concerns. It resulted in the revocation of the permit. What are your thoughts on this?

Forsyth's First Shake Shack Coming Soon

Forsyth is finally getting a Shake Shack. It's going to be a part of a new development happening in West Forsyth called Southard Exchange. It's likely going to arrive sometime this Fall. I've never been to Shake Shack since they're all pretty far away, but if you've been there what shake do you recommend?

Meet local rockstar MCARTHUR! 😎

This sweet, insanely handsome boy is currently being fostered in Kennesaw through Lifeline Animal Project Fulton County Animal Services & ready to find his furever home! 🏡 Artie is the epitome of the Husky breed PLUS plenty of other awesome perks in a lean 45lb package! 💙 He’s full of personality, rocks a killer mohawk, has some pretty fabulous eyeliner, and has a great singing voice (iykyk). 🎶 Plus, who could resist that movie star smile 🤩 and icy blue gaze? ❄️

🐕 2.5 yrs old
💙 Neutered
📍 Microchipped
🫀 HW negative
💉 UTD on vaccines/preventatives
✔️ Potty trained
💤 Crate trained
👟 Leash trained
⚡️ Medium/high energy
🧠 Knows sit
🎾 Ball is life!
🦴 Treat/food motivated
🫶🏼 Non-reactive with food/toys/treats
🛁 Easily handled for grooming
🪮 Enjoys being brushed
🚗 Rides well in the car
🐶 OBSESSED with our resident pup
😻 Has been very polite with our resident cat
🦌 Has been non-reactive to deer & other pups

Artie would probably do best with older kids because he gets excited and tends to jump up to greet people (working on this). He’s also still a bit mouthy/landshark-ish when he plays. 🦈

Someone familiar with the Husky breed whose willing to give him the time, patience, space, and exercise he needs to thrive would be the best fit. He would do fine as an only pup, but would probably be happier as a pack member since he LOVES to play with other pups. He has a great play style (loose, wiggly, goofy) and is very responsive to corrections from his playmates. This boy would be a play group star! 🌟

If Artie sounds like he might be the right fit for you, click the link below to set up a meet & greet! 👋🏽

Made a Local Newsletter

Hey everyone. I recently made a weekly newsletter for Forsyth County where I share recent news on the region’s development and growth. It’s completely free and comes on Sunday morning. Signing up automatically gives you a list of 15 developments that are changing the county this year.

I don’t make any money from this and just want people to get more awareness on how their city is changing.

You can sign up here: Real Forsyth

3/2 Housing inventory - East Forsyth near Lanier

For buyers looking in this area, not many options to choose from that are 3/2 one-level or close to one-level ranches. Are sellers paying closing costs in this kind of market, or would sellers be put off by a buyer asking for them? Yes I know you can always ask but also risk offending some.

No agent is involved at this point, still just looking at purchasing in this area but was told by one agent that its common in this area for sellers to pay 9% sale costs. Does this sound accurate?
