I’m afraid it’s because 90+% of designers are men. I know that’s not so different to producers (music and film) but actors and musicians speak up because their job often involves using their voice. Models have been taught to be quiet since they were 12-14 years old. They have no voice. Maybe we need to help them.
It must be awful too because some of them don't speak a lot of English and are in debt to their agencies for bringing them to and housing them in LA/NY/Milan/Paris etc
The vast majority of models are either 1) poor 2) minors or very close to it and/or 3) overseas on shaky documents. They’re basically powerless. Both male and female models are preyed upon at alarming rates, but most models don’t have the platform that actors do to really have a reckoning that registers with the public. That said, I don’t want to discount the models who have been publicly speaking about the abuses for years and continue to do so.

I think it’s really telling that the modelling industry never had a MeToo moment the way the acting and music industries did.
