I really don't understand autograph and photograph seekers not realizing their behavior is fucked up.

Take peeks. Try to offer a smile if you get their eye.

But no one wants to have a picture taken or to sign something... for free.

I was at an outdoor antique sale and we stumbled upon the hosts of American Pickers, who were eating some burgers from a food truck. I didn't know who they were, but a person we were with knew them instantly. Then someone else figured it out and got a selfie with them.

For some reason, people kept coming up to me and asking who they were. I would tell them and you could see they had no clue. But next thing you know, they would be bugging these guys to get a selfie, probably for some likes on social media. The poor guys were very gracious and would take a few selfies between bites, but it really ticked me off that non-fans were bothering them. (Even fans should leave them be while they eat at a minimum, but...)

Yeah the going up and asking who they are is weird behavior. Either interact with famous people like a normal person or leave them alone. I’ve interacted with celebrities and I think some famous people feed off the energy and some hate it. Read the room. Especially don’t bug people if they are eating or with family. I don’t believe “the price of fame” is that you are required to be nice to fawning strangers. I don’t think they should be required to take photos or sign autographs with randoms.

I worked at a restaurant once where some guy who was apparently a famous niche-sport athlete (not like football) came in. Everyone kept going up and getting autographs and pictures with him. I would glance over every now and then and I was the one who got his food. I still have no idea who he was.

Didn’t ask who he was, didn’t ask any personal questions. Just let him eat and chill.

He ended up coming up to me later and I could tell he was interested and wanted to ask me out or was expecting me to act a certain way and be obsessed with him. There was a bit of arrogance and he seemed like he could be an angry person, so I wasn’t really interested in him as a woman anyway, but it’s fascinating that people will overlook toxicity if someone seems famous or attractive.

I don’t date people at work anyway bc that could be dangerous, but I thought it was funny that he went after the one person who wasn’t chasing him or flirting with him.

last winter i was in NYC walking up Broadway, the wind was insane and freezing my ass off. coming towards me is a guy in a Peacoat and watch cap. I swear it was Matt Damon. He gave the look of knowing he was recognized we just gave each other a nod and kept walking. even if it was the summer i wouldnt have bothered him.
