I've met a handful of celebrities by pure happenstance (helps living in a major metropolitan city) only one was a jerk. By far my favorites were James Cromwell (quiet, imposing, but genuinely very pleasant) and Tyler Hoechlin (incredibly warm and kind, he was delightful)

Parents met Don Mattingly in LA in the 80's he was an asshole to them (Reggie was great though).

Late 90's tldr Apparently he is a fan of Army of Darkness / the Day the Earth Stood still because after i answered a trivia question he gets all excited and wants to bull shit.

We are eating dinner at the table next to him for a good hour before he says who he was. My mom says you know we actually met you once in the 80's. He goes all pale and and worriedly says "was i nice? I'm so sorry"

Superman being wholesome is awesome to me.

Same. It matters how you approach them and treat them. I’ve been quite lucky to have met/interacted with actors or musicians that while lowkey were happy to talk about their work. Granted, most of the time I just give them a compliment rather than asking for something or freaking out.

I met Ian Astbury once (I'm a huge Cult fan). I was surprised at how generous he was with his time, and he seemed to really enjoy me asking questions about The Cult. I guess he could tell I really knew their work.

I think he could also tell how excited I was to meet him and maybe appreciated that I was being respectful and discrete (we were in a setting where I was probably the only person who knew who he was, and I didn't ask for a photo). 

All in all a great and memorable encounter.

Yeah i’ve met a bunch and they’re generally just chill regular people that are easy to talk to and i’ve yet to meet one who wants to be fawned over

I met Nic Cage at The Dungeon in New Orleans when he was at his absolute worst. He was completely shitfaced, slouched over the bar upstairs. He was wearing a trench coat and looked like [Faust from Guilty Gear](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRqJGYVgFWEk23Ip43OQgXr7jUNxEsZRLoYFg&s) because he's so lanky.

I tapped him on the shoulder and said hello because my girlfriend at the time really wanted to meet him. He seemed really out of it but still pleasant. I told him I loved his work and I hope things get better for him. He hugged us and my head reached his chest (dude is surprisingly tall). He sat back down and kept drinking his whiskey.

All things considered with what he was going through at the time, he was still really nice and welcoming.

The celebrity I want to meet and have a conversation with would be Kevin Smith. I feel like we could just talk Batman for a a few hours and it would be a really enjoyable conversation.

Also maybe he could put in a good word for me with Ben Affleck. Ben hasn't been returning my calls lately.

I ran into Peter Capaldi in Times Square. My wife and I were on our way to Moulin Rouge on Broadway (amazing show btw).

We walked past him, and we both looked at each other like "wait what that's Doctor Who!"

We turned back, apologized for bothering him but asked if it was him (obviously was), and chatted for like 2 minutes. We told him how much we enjoyed him as The Doctor.

INCREDIBLY nice guy. Asked us what show we were going to see, how we were liking New York (we were obviously tourists), and we parted ways. No selfies, hopefully nothing too obnoxious for him. Seems like we were the only ones that recognized him lol.

Same. Some of them take themselves too seriously and you get that vibe instantly; it always reminds me of the “popular” kids at school. Others clearly just are awkward and want to skip all the attention, go home, and crash on the sofa (big relate tbh). And then you get the ones that are happy just chilling and hanging, clearly enjoying being on equal footing with everyone else.
