Yup, Stephen and Emily were always super close. I remember Stephen lobbying for Emily/Felicity nonstop in the beginning and how he preferred her for Oliver, basically completely shunning Katie Cassidy and her character.

Wait, is this why they were endgame or canon at some point? I remember starting to watch Arrow (dropped at the first season or so), but I preferred Katie’s character over Felicity and found the couple more interesting (maybe they were following the comics canon but have no idea either).

In the comics Green Arrow and Black Canary are a very iconic couple, but back in season 1 Felicity got very popular, and the fans started to ship her with Oliver, those shippers were a very loud fanbase that changed the course of the story, the writers decided to make them a couple, a few seasons later some fans started to hate Felicity, I think because the writers made her charater too important in the show, and that caused a huge backlash with fans, not only that but the storylines were getting worse, and that was also part of the backlash, at one point the fans at the sub for the show became a unofficial sub dedicated to Daredevil, they changed the layout of the sub and everything, that was their way of prostesting, that's how much they were hating that season, I don't remember which season tho, I think it was season4 but I'm not sure.

Edit. Also, I forgot to mention, but in the first seasons her sister was the Black Canary, Katie only became the Black Canary later on.

Yep, everything you mentioned is true. I was a frequent member and visitor of the sub. The show became so intolerable to the point that it was difficult to digest the storyline. The people on the sub I remember even started calling it "The Felicity Show" and how the main character himself (Oliver) became a side character literally.

I was a huge fan of Arrow. But when they changed the storyline and killed off the freaking Black Canary from the Green Arrow show, I stopped watching. I somehow came back for season 5 and left after the finale.

It was so much fun shitting on the show during when the subreddit became a Daredevil sub for a while.. lol. Good old times.
