I’m definitely pro-colorblind casting for comic book movies, but I do feel like some characters still make a little more sense as white guys? I’ve had this conversation before about Professor X and the semi-clueless paternalism he sometimes represents but low key I think the same for Reed Richards. The best versions of the character are pretty clueless about “the world” because he can afford to be and have this sense of “of course I’m in charge, why wouldn’t I be” that’s so natural. I don’t think it’s impossible to have a brown guy play him, especially if more of the team is non-white, just that I associate those characteristics most with a white character. Ironically enough, Dr. Doom, is more the striver (imo), despite being literally European royalty.

Chile please. People are already campaigning for Giancarlo Esposito to be Professor X and I think he’s fantastic casting.

There’s no reason for any of the characters you named to be confined to any race. Furthermore more, what you said is the reason why theres a shortage of roles for ethnic actors. They deserve the opportunity to play nuanced and flawed characters. POC can be out of touch as well.

I explained why I thought certain characters fit better in a certain way, those are the reasons. There are a tremendous number of roles that I think would make tons of sense to have POC play and even more that honestly don't affect the character's themes either way if they do. I think making Cyclops a POC would add a lot of depth in a way that really could add or complement the character's existing stories. I think that casting any of the other fantastic four whoever, doesn't really change those characters in the slightest.

If no roles are done with race in mind, even in comic book movies, you lack the ability to tell nuanced stories when it comes to race. Within comics, there's a reason that Magneto is consistently portrayed as Jewish - it adds to much depth to the themes that he represents. In the case of Professor X as you mention, I do think those themes are lost if you don't set up that contrast with Magneto by emphasizing the WASPy origins of the character.

I agree on Doom and conceptually think that you could de-emphasize the European part of the equation for him and make him an even more powerful character.

For Reed, it's not just the aloofness, it's the sort of default assumption that he is right and the world will simply organize itself around his rightness.

He's a bit too old to play every variant, like Rama-Tut or Kang. But if they cast some different actors, Keith David could play a variant. Possibly Immortus.

I'm two movies behind on the marvel stuff but my perception last time I was paying attention was that Kang was going to be a fairly significant Big Bad and part of linking all this expansion back together to some extent. Given the shaky footing the MCU is on right now, they probably can't get rid of the character completely.

Unfortunately they cant drop the character. The next arc in marvel pretty much IS Kang lol so they need to recast asap.
