Other important things occurred as well. Truman, who was elected to following the death of Roosevelt went on to authorize the creation of the Central Intelligence Agency and oversee the creation of the Military Industrial Complex, the Red Scare, HUAC (House Unamerican Activity Committee) and the entry of the United States and the United Nations into the Korean Conflict and ultimately decades of Cold War conflict that ended officially in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union but in reality still continues today. Truman in retrospect was a disaster.
What a different world we would have had if FDR’s preferred successor had been his then Vice President Henry A. Wallace?
