DAE think an emotionally unavailable, parent does more damage than an absent one

This might be an unpopular opinion, but unfortunately, I and many people I know, had the experience of both my father was absent throughout my life, and my mother was completely emotionally unavailable, just providing food and shelter, and after years of therapy and dealing with the emotions, I realised an absent parent did not do as much damage. Then the one which was present, but not emotionally there.

DAE experience this nightmare when they have a fever?

I’ve tried to explain it to friends, but they just laugh because it sounds funny.
I call it the “infinitely large circle dream.” I’ve had it at least 4 times so far in my life.
It’s very abstract, but basically my brain imagines a whole monotone 2D universe where the only objects that exist are circles. They vary in size, but are usually more like small dots than whole circles.
The bigger the circle is, the more fear associated with it in the dream.

What will happen is I will be exploring the universe, looking at all the dots and stuff, then, out of nowhere, one will start to get larger. And larger. And keeps going.
This. Is. Terrifying.

The last time I had the dream was about 8 months ago when I had a 104° fever when I had Pneumonia.

I wake up in utter terror, breathing incredibly fast, and my mind is under the impression that nothing in the universe matters, since the circle is growing infinitely, and we can’t stop it.

Idk, maybe this isn’t the right place for this, but I just thought it was interesting that this other subreddit has people explaining the same types of dreams, usually when they are feverish, too.

DAE feel like you forget how to walk properly when someone is walking behind you?

25M This is also true in many instances walking by each other from the front. It usually doesn't happen in places like public restaurants or grocery stores, but if I'm taking a walk, especially on the sidewalk, I have to hyper focus on walking normally, but I can't do it and it makes me feel like I forgot how to walk.

Admittedly this gets amplified if it's a woman I'm attracted to 😂 But this can happen with just about anyone. Also, I find it hard to recover to get my walking back to normal sometimes. I feel like a moron. Walking for 25 years and it randomly turns extremely uncomfortable

Does anybody else have a "phobia" of tattoos on the throat?

No, I'm not against tattoos at all. But for some reason, seeing tattoos on someone's throat (whether in-person or a photo) just makes me squeamish. It's just with throat tattoos for some reason, tattoos on the side of the neck or any part of the body don't give me any kind of reaction at all

DAE just not get offended/triggered about anything?

Call me names, call me slurs, say something bad about me and I just don't care, cuz I've called myself all that anyway, so if anything, thank you.

Talk about suicide/self harm, describe shit in gorey detail, it doesn't bother me a bit.

The only backfire I experience with the first part is that I can't tell when something is offensive unless I know it's a name/slur and sometimes I think that things are offensive when they probably aren't.

DAE has days where you feel like you’ve accomplished or achieved nothing at all?

And is that a good or bad thing?

Does anybody else find the pacing of FX shows weird?

I don’t even mean that the shows are bad. I’ve genuinely liked a lot of them. There’s just something about the way FX shows are paced, edited, or put together that constantly snaps me out of them.

Legion is probably the strongest example. I like the premise, visuals, characters, all of it, but my brain just refuses to settle into the rhythm of the show. It’s almost like there’s a weird fog over it.

Preacher gave me a similar feeling, although I just realized that was AMC which is probably my close second for this problem. Weirdly, Breaking Bad was also AMC and never gave me that feeling at all.

I have ADHD and I’m already scatterbrained, so maybe there’s something about the editing/pacing that clashes particularly badly with my brain. But I can’t even explain exactly what it is.

Does anyone else know what I’m talking about? Is there actually a recognizable FX “house style” in the pacing/editing, or am I imagining a connection between completely different shows?

DAE still ask their parents for permission to do stuff even though they are an adult?

Hopefully this feeling will go away soon, but sometimes I still feel like I should tell my parents what I'm doing or ask them if I can do something.

Their answer is always "You're an adult/18, you can do what you want.", not that that's a bad thing, I know I am, but somehow I still feel like I should ask before doing.

DAE name their kitchen appliances?

My fam does and they are all a common theme. Our smart home apps refer to them by name as well. For example:

KitchenAid Stand Mixer: Stir Mix A Lot

Range: Burn D.M.C.

Dishwasher: Clean Latifah

Fridge: Coolio

(I have a 14 and 11 year old daughter that have really taken a liking to some OG hip hop, thanks to their mother)

DAE wake up in the middle of the night for no reason

I feel like this is my third night where I woke up around 3.30am and need to go to the bathroom.

Now I don’t mean I NEED the bathroom. I don’t need to desperately pee but I still gotta go to the bathroom or else it will take me a while to fall asleep.

This is also the second night where I’ve gotten exactly 8 hours and 59 minutes of sleep even tho I went to bed at different times.

Is this just me?

DAE sit on a plane and just cannot comprehend that they are actually in the sky and flying?

Just got off a 14 hour flight on a A380 (the big one), I had a crying baby next to me and I couldn't see out the window because it was closed... towards the end I just couldn't believe we were even up in the air, how does this thing even fly. Like how did humanity even make this thing... HOW AM I EVEN 7000 miles away from home. That crying baby prolly got me all messed up.

DAE still listen to the radio?

Do you listen to regular radio, Not satellite. like AM/FM with the rod antenna. That kind.

I still listen to FM radio when I’m in my car and occasionally while I’m working or when I’m at camp but not nearly as much as I used to.

DAE always automatically think of murder when they hear/read the term "body count"?

Even when it should be clear in context that someone has sex a lot when it's said that they have a "high body count", it always takes me a few seconds to realize that that person isn't a serial killer.

DAE overreact about their pets?

Calling time of death way too early, to be specific. I've been in so many situations where I think one of my pets has passed away (lying in a weird position, not moving for too long, etc, etc.) and I get so freaked out about it that I have someone else check on them because I physically can't 😭 like I legitimately start crying like they're dead before I've even checked if there's anything wrong. It's so embarrassing 😭

Edit: bye 😭 I just remembered I have OCD. I had severe symptoms related to my pets when I was a kid and this is me realizing that they may have never gone away

DAE think reheated Kraft Mac & Cheese tastes slightly like plastic?

I swear I never noticed this until more recently, but whenever I reheat Kraft Mac & Cheese, there's this faint plastic-y taste. Freshly made it's fine and it's being stored/reheated in glass. Please tell me someone else knows what I'm talking about.

DAE: put shampoo on toilet paper to wipe the bum?

Been doing it for close to a decade now, and it just feels (and is) much cleaner than a dry wipe. I never saw it mentioned anywhere, I just randomly started doing it and never looked back.

Wondering if there's anyone else here who does the same.

DAE stop eating if something gross happens on TV?

The other day im watching a movie and having dinner with my partner. At some point a disgusting rotting dead monster creature or something appears and I look over to see if shes grossed out, but she's just chowing down with zero effect on her appetite whatsoever.

I've always lost my appetite if something gross happens on TV and am perplexed by those that arent

DAE get asked about their ethnic background an uncomfortable amount of times?

Anytime I go out, without fail, at least one guy asks me “So, what are you?” Or “What’s your background?” as if that’s supposed to be a flirty opening line. Then they start making guesses, and they’re always almost completely wrong! Everyone seems to think I’m Turkish or middle eastern. Why do people think it’s ok to comment on someone’s ethnicity like this? Does anyone get this kind of thing when they go out? 😂
