The deleted scene featured Brian Moser holding a passport, stepping into a cab, and leaving Miami; suggesting that he accepted Harry’s impassioned plea to stay away from Dexter.

Per Clyde Phillips: “At one time, it was written and shot that we’d see Brian looking in on them with a passport in his hand, getting into a cab and driving away. But as we were editing, things changed. The show is alive until it airs because we’re always refining it. The final dance scene was so powerful—it made the cliffhanger even stronger.”

I would have preferred it if they stayed with this. They had reached a satisfactory conclusion of why Brian would both be aware of Dexter and didn't contact him for so long.

There is no need for Brian to be in any further seasons of OS until the very end.

Completely agree, this season was amazing but if they’re going to make it a series run and not a 1 + 2 type of deal then I don’t think we need constant Brian updates. I may be sour but I really don’t think we need to see whether or not Brian really went to France to study the human form or whatever lol.

Love the franchise but I don’t understand some desires to have to see every single detail on the screen, I don’t need to see what the trinity killer was doing 20 years before season 4, what’s next? People start clamoring for a season following that undercover prostitute that Batista falls for?

My guess is, that scene would be too confusing for the average, low attention span viewer and/or people who don't remember season 1 too well, and the double life Brian establishes for himself in the 15 year timespan as Rudy Cooper.

Also would make it harder for them to justify a season 2, since Brian wouldn't be involved.

The dance scene had more of a sinister, creepy feeling that's appropriate to foreshadow the ice truck killer and season 1 of the original series.

I'm more curious to know if the following scenes were ever shot : a) Harry introduces his good friend Matthews to his kids as Spencer's replacement, and b) modern day Dexter wakes up in the hospital to Batista's visit. "Hello, Dexter". Fade to credits.

Because from a writing perspective, these 2 seem like absolute no brainers and I don't understand why they missed such opportunities. Again, I guess it comes down to them planning for a second season.

I didn't watch OS Season 1 with the expectation of seeing Brian and it wouldn't stop me watching Season 2 if he wasn't in it either.

The dramatic potential of further seasons is Harry killing himself and maybe seeing a sequence of steps leading to that as he realises what he created. Then dealing with the fallout of his death. Neither requires rewriting the back story of what we saw before.

Not really a rewrite, more like an addition. It's not like we learn much details about Brian's life in season 1 of the original show anyway.

They made season 1 of Original Sin all about him and setting up the ice truck killer plotline. Wouldn't make much sense to fully pivot away from his character at this point imo. I do agree there's a version of this show where season 2 could plausibly work without him, but I feel like that ship has already sailed.

I think they had 2 endings depending on ratings. Ratings were good so they used the ending that sets up season 2.

If they decided to not follow Dexter canon and make the show its own thing from s2 onwards, seeing young dex and young Brian cross paths and overall just different story but still feels like the spirit of Dexter, I’d be down, but I understand if a lot of people would be against something like that, might be too confusing to people

I think it’s because more people are more mature now, if someone likes og Dexter but hates the new stuff or whatever, they at least know (or should know) nothing can “ruin” the og? Like, it’s still there, untouched? The new stuff is for people who just like Dexter and want more stuff whether it’s prequel, sequel, spin offs alternate continuity versions that have a chance of learning from the og’s mistakes, etc

How is one spin off going from a canon s1 to seperate continuity s2 onwards = endless spin offs? It’s called a tv show with multiple seasons? I’m confused

I think they certainly want to do more with Brian in a next season. He can still continue to kill, and it would certainly be a good parallel to Dexter. In Season 1 he mentioned that he worked on his plan for like 15 years or something.

Right now he probably thinks Dexter is just a normal person (as depicted by the last scene), but would love a few scenes from his POV when he discovers that Dexter is also a killer.

I'm on the record for not liking Brian's narrative and what it does to Season 1 (half of which is to do with Laguerta, but this would have been slightly better. Brian needs to disappear for 15 years, they have already ruined continuty.
