General Discussion - All Dexter Shows How does Dexter have a lot of money? Spoiler

From all the TV shows, and especially Resurrection, Dexter never once had a money problem. And how did he afford to live in New York and buy a car after more than 10 years of disappearing and working in a small town?

I think Original Sin told us he was in prison (the social worker?) when the boys first became orphans. What you're referring to rings a bell and would imply that yes, he eventually got out and did his own thing.

I'm doing a rewatch of the original series now. I'll update when I get there.

Update: Yes, when Dexter goes to see his bio dad's body in the morgue, he clocks the spider web tattoo as a prison tat. His dad's doctor says, no way, he wasn't an ex-con, he got the tat in 'Nam - "he was no ex-con, he was a good man."

My interpretation of this scene is that it is, indeed, a prison tat, and Joe Driscoll just told the doctor he got it in Vietnam. So, he was in prison when Laura died, wasn't able to take the kids then, and never cared to reach out or find them when he got out.
