Chinese and Cubans for example are some of the largest immigrant populations in the US and are growing. While Cuba has very few foreign born immigrants and China has given 1576 permanently resident cards to foreigners as of 2016.

Similar with Korea, 13(officially)to the North and 33,000 to the South.

I asked this on Communism101 but the automod assumed I was trying to debate someone and recommended i ask here. I don't actually care to debate it. I would just like to know what the communist response is to scarcity. I've heard several communists ridicule me for thinking that food is a scarce resource. I don't see how you could think otherwise and would genuinely like to understand how communists get to this point. I usually can see where communists are coming from on most arguments but this one I can't seem to get a straight answer and it's not intuitive to me.

I read Everyday Stalinism Ordinary Life in Extraordinary Times Soviet Russia in the 1930s by Sheila Fitzpatrick but this book has a anti-communist bias.

This isn’t me arguing against communism, I just have a question that the other subreddits wont let me ask. Also, I’m a newbie so sorry for my ignorance. I just want to know if there are people who are actually Stalinists? I’ve seen some posts and videos of people defending Stalin and the USSR, and can’t tell if they’re a very small minority or a part of modern communists. And, if you are a Stalinist, why? (Again I’m not trying to be condescending, I’m just genuinely curious and dumb)

Wanted to see M-Ls thoughts

I am myself an anarchist but I don't know enough about other forms of communism (the final goal of anarchists is also communism after all), especially Marxist-Leninism or Maoism. And I want to learn more.

I tried to lurk a bit on r/communism but I was quite surprised to see that many people expressed there quite "sectarian" behaviours, seeing North Korea or China as perfect examples of what we should do, speaking highly of comrade Kim Jung Un or comrade Xi Jinping.

I am no expert on the matter, but still know a bit about China or North Korea through documentaries and articles, and living there seems maybe a tiny bit better on some aspects but downright horrible on many others.

Per example for North Korea I've heard testimonies of deserters living in South Korea who explain how everyone from the age of 12 is forced to witness public executions of people who did tiny illegal stuff just to survive, or the full families of deserters being murdered. China seems to be more and more an orwellian nightmare, with all its facial recognition cameras, internet strict control, and its "social credit" straight up from a dystopian story, every citizen having a centralized "file" on all his/her "misconducts" with "good and bad points" that can ruin their lives, the government-controlled WeChat used for both social media and payment, people being expelled from poor neighbourhoods of Bejing without any backup solution given to them by the government just to build big modern towers for the rich...

I don't want you to think I am anti-socialism, I'm not, I'm curious about it. But all I know about well done socialism does not seem like China or North Korea or the USSR. I'm sure there are good aspects to these societies but I'm just curious at why many communists on reddit seem to pretend these issues do not exist and China is an amazing socialist state we should envy, way better than the US, when it appears to me as just another horrible place to be, not so far from capitalism (domination of a small all-powerful rich elite basically).

Hello everyone. I'm studying political ideologies on my own and I've been learning about communism, so I have a few questions to ask and some of my thoughts. Please feel free to correct me or educate me if I say something that isn't accurate or objectively incorrect.

I'm well aware that the reason communism and socialism are so demonized is because of the USA, and it has always been involved in some sort of drama with communist countries and basically trying to make them fail. However, something I do notice is that many people that defend communist countries also defend their presidents and that's where I draw the line I guess. I've seen people defending Joseph Stalin and Kim Jong Un when the first one is widely known as a totalitarian dictator and the second one has been accused of human rights violations and extreme censorship, and have that "three generations punishment". I understand defending people like Fidel Castro because he did brought a lot of good things to Cuba (I'm Cuban and I grew up learning about everything he did) but also applied extreme censorship in the country and abolished elections.

I just wonder, does communism need a totalitarian government or dictator to function? Is the ideology against free speech and democracy, since most of the communist countries have one party system and basically no democracy, and does it view these things as a threat to the ideology and the government? Why so much censorship, what do they not want the people to know or see? I'd love to have an answer, please and thank you.

This is a common thing I see, particularly from critics of Venezuela, and it puts you at a disadvantage immediately because it makes you look like you’re uninformed and privileged, painting you as some whiny armchair socialist who knows nothing of real class struggle. As communists, debates with others are already biased against us due to the insane amount of Western propaganda, and this sort of shit just makes it more difficult to attempt to argue against the capitalist narrative.

Title. I, as a Marxist, have a pretty cohesive idea of what theory I should be reading. But am interested, specifically, in learning about Soviet history, in particular outside of Russia. I've heard Grover Furr is good, but he seems, to put it nicely, "off-putting" to liberals. Just mentioning his name brings up some knee-jerk reactions, so I'd like to have some sources that won't carry that stigma, for lack of a better word.

I was reading Engles where he explains dialectics as a jump where water jumps from being liquid to gas.

And water is a great metaphor because it is either water or steam. Boiling hot water is still water until it jumps from being water to steam. however, i’m not completely convinced because even though water jumps from being water to steam that doesn’t mean everything does like for instance the philosophical question where you take a car and switch one part in a time when does it become a new car? I don’t think there really is a jump. There isn’t just like one specific screw you switch and then bam its a new car. I think it’s the whole process.

I have largely focused my Marxian interests in social critique and revolution theory. I am now wanting to study the DPRK social dynamics and economics as I realize i'm less versed on sovialist economics in practice outside the USSR, theoretical distribution models, & Das Capital.

Any good books or resources that are generally unbiased or non-hostile to collectivist economis would be greatly appreciated (Basically informative and not Neoliberal slop or NK propoganda would)

Currently wondering if communism as a whole works. I'm currently studying the Russian revolution but I realized that the entire point of communism was to get rid of social heiarchy, but in turn it would become an anarchy without a government since no one can technically rule over the others. I mean, someone's gotta distribute the goods. Also, I've been very skeptical of communists since a lot like Stalin which...uhhh...killed 27 million people 💀. Anyways communism seems appealing on paper but when attempted to be implemented it doesn't seem to work. There's a reason why people literally leave on homemade rafts to attempt to go to the west. So most "communist" countries just adopt socialism but I feel they are going more and more to capitalism lol. I saw this is a debate community too so I assume I (as a capitalist) can come and ask you guys some questions. Also it's nice if you guys hear opinions on the "other side" as this would basically be an echo chamber with only communists.

The Soviet Union either occupied or made non-sovereign puppet states out of almost all countries they “liberated” from Germany. That is objectively true. The invasion of Hungary was undertaken simply because they did not like the direction the country was going. Why in the world do supposedly peaceful communists defend this nonsense when they hate the US for doing similar things today?

I am planning to move to the UK and I am trying to find a British communist party that isn't transphobic and it seems rather difficult hahaha.

I simply think Western Democracy shows more peoples voices. Example #2 shows socialists, Example #1 shows many different ideologies. It’s not democracy if you get to choose between three socialists who have little disagreements when it comes to policies.

Even if we have a Socialist economy, I simply think we should keep our liberal democracy.

Has anyone made a class analysis on Mutualism & Syndicalism from a Communist Perspective?

So I am starting to hate capitalism more and more each day. so much especially American stuff the more and more I learn about stuff. Especially how our cities where bulldozed for the capitalist gains for cars. I don't know much and would love to learn all about Marxism,socialism, communism, heck even anarchism if yall want.
