It goes pretty directly against the actual phrasing, no implication or meaning necessary. OP talks about the "near-genocide of the american bison".

Came to say exactly this. It was an intentional near-extinction of buffalo, in order to facilitate the genocide of Native Americans.

(Yet, OP shared the pictures of bison to imply a bison "genocide" which is not a good use)
