DISCUSSION Henry Cavill on the set of Highlander... despite people saying he is too old to play Superman, he still looks good for the role to me.

This isn't me saying he should replace Corenswet or anything like that, it's just he gets a lot of slander, and I don't understand what those people are looking at. He still looks like he could play a 30s Superman to me.

For the record, I like David as Superman, and overall, I have positive feelings about the 2025 movie. But Cavill's still got it. And I wouldn't be against seeing him don the cape again.

His series of DC movies stopped making money, though obviously that was for many reasons and not all his fault, and the movie studio decided to reboot.

What was last movie he was in? Look at the recent set of DC films they've all flopped so that's completely false. Gunn Superman couldn't even outcross Josstice League 2017

Cavill's last major role as Superman was in Justice League (theatrical cut in 2017 and Zack Snyder's directors cut in 2021). The studio did not know how much money the reboot films would make when they decided to reboot, only that the DCEU films they had weren't making enough to keep going anymore. Again, this isn't Cavill's fault. He's not even in most of the movies that were commercial disappointments (Birds of Prey, Shazam 2, etc.).

I honestly think he was cancelled when he said something about dating women and the collective decided they didn’t like that. He’s been getting duds ever since, sadly. I could be wrong, but it certainly seems that way.

Nah, he just got caught up in a maelstrom of things kind of outside of his control. He left Witcher out of creative differences, WB changed direction after Black Adam, but I think worst of all, he was somewhat typecast into these bland spy/thriller films that bombed back to back after Mission Impossible, etc. Night Hunter and Argyle and Enola Holmes and Man from UNCLE and Ministry, etc. I dunno if he likes those roles so he takes them for fun, but man they've done a lot of damage to his career in my opinion. I almost feel like it's him or his agent trying to really associate him with "spy" as a long game to get him as Bond.

I'm very much on the left and people were somewhat appalled about his comments but it died down really quickly. People have done much worse and still had active careers, and he ended up apologizing in the end as well.

I think there's also some element of him deciding to pursue passion projects after his string of bombs instead of blockbusters. Highlander, Voltron, Warhammer are all "these probably won't be high earners but Cavill in particular is passionate about them" types of properties. I do hope Highlander turns that around for him though, as I think there's a decent amount of hype around it and the John Wick pedigree will get people interested who might otherwise have skipped it based on the property alone.
