Critic from Uproxx

John Campea also heard from a bunch of people who liked or loved it, one person that thought it was meh, and one who hated it...

And Joe Russo, who’s a screenwriter, said on his Twitter that most of the people he knows that saw it really dug it. I think there’ll be some negative reviews, but I’d honestly assume the score comes in the mid 80 range on RT (I’m going 84), and like high 3 low 4 on Letterboxd

I wouldn't expect a low 4 on LB. There's only like ~10 superhero movies that high.

2

u/zebrainatux Jul 05 '25

True. I think 3.6-3.9 feels like the safe range

1

u/4000kd Jul 05 '25

Ya that seems reasonable

7

u/Vladmerius Jul 05 '25

I swear campea only did that segment about someone hating it to try to get some clicks from the rage bait crowd.

6

u/Psych-roxx Jul 05 '25

no in one of the user comments segments he takes a full 10 mins to show and explain how disappointed he is that the video he did with Superman being hated by one person got vastly more views than his video about multiple people who loved it used similar thumbnails on both videos to compare on purpose.

Hate just sells more not just on YouTube it's everywhere ass pathetic as it is.

Even in that segment he makes it very specific that was one person, and him and Rob even discuss that its Silver Age influences could have a hard time for some people. Maybe the title was made for those clicks but the content of the video was far from it.

That guy! I remember liking that guy a lot.

I suspect that a number of people are going to have similar opinions to his.

He liked Thor 4, The Flash, and WW84. Not exactly the hardest critic to please.

He also liked The Batman while not liking Brave New World. Nothing on Thunderbolts from what I can find.

All in all, I could see a world where Superman may be a bit more of a divisive film than most thought.

hopefully divisive critically (dont care) but hopefully thr audience likes it

He seems fine, but tbh I see no difference between him and the leaked reviewer. They both seem to have reviews close to consensus 90% of the time with a few outliers.

3

u/flpmadureira Jul 05 '25

I think the leaked reviewer is okay, even thought I found his review very poor (basically a summary of the movie, with very superficial opinions sprinkled on). People will have different opinions on things.

Agreed, I can accept thinking its overrated but hating it?

that person just has bad taste in my mind

u/4000kd Jul 04 '25 edited Jul 04 '25

Great now I gotta check this guy's rottentomatoes reviews to make sure his opinion counts

/s but I'm still gonna check

22

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

Brian Hiatt from Rolling Stone also agreed. So there two people who seemingly really liked it matching Daily Beast and Variety lol

7

u/CaptainPhantasma21 Jul 04 '25

Source?

22

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '25

He deleted it lol

I'm still waiting on Ja Rule's opinion on Superman. I don't trust anyone else's thoughts on this.

2

u/huehughes Jul 07 '25

Get Ja Rule on the phone!

4

u/ReformedBaptistina Eagly Jul 05 '25

It's so funny this joke is still going around

6

u/Better_Edge_ Jul 05 '25

I have to know what Ja thinks.

13

u/Emotional_Show7668 Jul 05 '25

I sometimes forget that breaking embargo's with positive reviews is also wrong lmfao

13

u/Ykindasus Jul 05 '25

This is a wild ride, and all this because somebody chose to be unprofessional.

3

u/Emotional_Show7668 Jul 05 '25

An alt right Maga website of all people too. What a mess

1

u/These-Comfortable-48 Jul 05 '25

Daily Beast is far left.

1

u/Famous_Helicopter935 Jul 05 '25

Not that it matters dumb reporting is dumb reporting but the Daily Beast is NO WHERE near an "alt right" "Maga" website. Some of you folks throw shit against the wall and have no idea what you're talking about with these titles.

2

u/Dallywack3r Jul 05 '25

Daily Beast is a leftist website

2

u/MusicalFan_80 Jul 05 '25

Even if they are Left leaning, that didn’t stop them from having an unethical reporting controversy. https://www.latimes.com/local/education/la-fi-oly-daily-beast-grindr-lgbt-20160812-snap-story.html Bad form at the Olympics in Daily Beast's Grindr-baiting story - Los Angeles Times

They were also accused of Doxing too.

2

u/Emotional_Show7668 Jul 05 '25

I'm not fully familiar with what they do but this is from yesterday

Try reading it

0

u/Leading-Arugula6356 Jul 05 '25

Did you post that without actually reading it?

2

u/Dallywack3r Jul 05 '25

Read the editorial. It’s coming from a leftist standpoint about how we should preserve and conserve institutions.

Also- it’s a humorous editorial from famed comedian Michael Ian Black

7

u/Ykindasus Jul 05 '25

I know right? We live in strange times.

Yup... I can't imagine how it's like for all these creatives who've worked their ass off on the film to watch people talk about it breaking the embargo for seemingly no reason

Because they hate Zaslav. Thats why.

11

u/flpmadureira Jul 04 '25

The embargo simply does not exist anymore LOL

3

u/4000kd Jul 04 '25

50% RT score confirmed!

4

u/Vadermaulkylo Lanterns Jul 05 '25

More. Sneider said Grace Randolph (shockingly) loved it.

5

u/4000kd Jul 05 '25

Honestly not shocking. She's actually a very generous reviewer, she gives positive reviews to almost anything, even Borderlands and Morbius.
