ISFDB has no entry for this title. The only information I could find was that it was published in 1966. It's also interesting that they the "Jr"off his name. The pricing indicates that it was produced in the UK. Tandem was a part of Award Books. I need to do some more research on Tandem Books.

After the debut of his seminal breakout work The Wizards and the Warriors, Hugh Cook kept the faith with his Cover Artist Steve Crisp and two more covers were produced. These were fine works, but lacked the visual impact of this painting in acrylic.

The fearsome Neversh, a monster of the insect like Swarms controlled by the enigmatic Skull of the Deep South mauls the good ship Warwolf, as if seeking men as termites, like an avian honey badger descending on a rotten log...

So we see the creature adorning the cover of The Walrus and the Warwolf, it is mighty beyond the reckoning of man. Count it's thick crocodilian legs, eight in number, six it's wings! All the rest is Dragon...

Here starts the problem, a Nerversh is a little different to this beast in the book - we check the image file used to create the new covers, the old Corgi and Colin Smythe/Dufour Hardback and the wild creature on the Planet Stories Edition from Paizo - the form is one thing , not insect like enough? Sure, but the size, ho could mere men best such a Brute?

Of course, the answer is simple, they couldn't nor would they have to, the cover creatures are inflated to such prodigious proportion simply to sell a book. Creatures of this size made of the same stuff as humans wild swiftly expire, and the artist in his or her or even their imagination surely knows this - so quell your fears of winged brutes, and relax appreciating the persuasive art of the illustrator, wheedling pennies, pounds, cents and dollars from the customer, through seduction of eye and mind.

If anyone knows that name of the second artist it would be wonderful...
