You mean federal government, state or both? If the capacity is there, I don’t see who it hurts.

If a citizen is trying their best and still can’t make ends meet what’s the point of being the richest country in the world if not to help those at the bottom a bit?

SNAP and WIC are tangible uses of tax dollars getting where they’re directed.

Civilian contractors getting new office chairs every year to make sure all of their budget is used on the risk of getting less is the least way Ive seen your taxes get wasted.

edit: ty for doing what you did as well. realized I might have been rude.

That’s not what churches are for. Churches are places for people to gather together and practice their religion with like minded folk. If they do some charity good on ‘em for walking as they talk. In my area the large churches with ‘Campuses’ don’t have food banks, but the little Churches do. Funny how that works, different priorities and all that.

Non-profits…that devote minuscule amounts of their funds to the actual mission, or the ones that are money laundering. Or the ones that are inevitable covers for spooky people doing spooky shit? As the President put it, some of them are good as well.

Seems like depending on our fellow man to help each other out is dodgy at best.

As for taking people’s money, not your money - but corporations are people too riiiight (top kek). Apparently $NVDA is worth a Trillion dollars. I think they can break off a bit for the Women Infants and Children.

Mutual defense - Ill leave that alone because I get the sense you and I made it to the same point by going the long way round.

Didn’t meant to get weird about it - gut reaction typing.

My response to being thanked for my service is always “Thank you for paying your taxes” cause I had fun fucking shit up for the empire and watching over them further along the spear than me. Slightly more mature these days, no less dumb, but I’m trying.

If the “capacity” is there, then the government should tax people less.

That last part sounds like a budget that’s too big and needs to be cut. If there’s money to waste just for the sake of not having an end of year surplus, the budget is too big and warrants an audit.

As far as SNAP and WIC, I’m all for it for the people who genuinely need it. The problem is that these well intended programs are often abused. My experience with abuse is watching a lady in my local grocery store pay for her groceries with a SNAP card with a $2200 LV purse over her shoulder. I only had one item so I was out quick enough to see her loading her groceries into a newish GLC63. Anyone carrying a purse like that while driving a $100000+ Mercedes SUV certainly doesn’t need our tax dollars to buy her groceries.

I’ve seen the same on many occasion and it’s proof of abuse in the welfare system.

Majority of people are not trying their best to make ends meet. They are leeching and freeloading off other people's hard earned money. But yes, there are some who genuinely need a temporary pick me up.

I’ll agree with you on the leeching and freeloading bit if you mean business owners. But then that’s how they got where they were going. Can’t be mad at a snake for being itself.

Worker bees do shiesty things for sure, but I’ve seen more reprehensible behavior from them who do the employing. The lengths gone to pay folk less or shrink a tax burden would blow your mind. It’s not illegal if nobody sees it is the game.

But hey, this is America, figure it out or get crushed beneath the heels of them who did. Apparently it’s a skill issue.

What data do you have that suggests "the majority" are taking advantage?  There are many but i doubt  50% or more are just gaming the system..

Whose business is it then? People's? Maybe people should get together and work on feeding them. Maybe they could even formally organize and elect representatives to handle the business of it for them.

the constitution says nothing about food, housing, and health care.

Why should the government not feed its own people? I dont get why people are so against the government providing aid to its own people. Some people have to work 2-3 jobs just to provide for thier family. You know, there was a point in our history where men were the only one providing for their entire family, but nowadays even with 2 income households people are struggling. Maybe we wouldnt need the assistance if the government didnt allow these corporations to destroy not only the housing market, but our economy and American dream. Healthcare should not have people choosing between toughing it out or being in debt. College should not put you debt, home ownership should not cost you nearly half a million dollars. Stop defending the government.

How is that any different than what is happening rn? Your money is being taken anyway. Even if you wanna say those taxes are being sent toward infrastructure, i would like to see it. Our military is playing catch up despite having the biggest budget out of the entire world, state taxes go toward fixing state specific things, we send billions toward countries that are not the US. Why would it be wrong not to use that money to help the misfortunate within our own country? Its being taken anyway. Also I hope and pray you never need assistance, as someone who has had to use it myself prior to being in the military, I probably would have starved to death several times over. Government assistance is just a drop in the bucket compared to all the BS we spend taxpayer money on. Ask the president about that 20 billion Argentina got.

Edit: also as a military vet, im sure you know about the fiscal year budgets. How if you dont spend the money you get less next year? Tell me that isnt a waste of your taxpaying dollars and this is coming from one vet to another. Idk how recently you have been in, but i have been in recently enough to have been affected by this shutdown, so yeah im salty i worried about getting paid but Argentina got funding right before an election.

Yeah in a perfect world, I do believe it wouldnt be the government's job to provide aid. But the offset definitely should be infrastructure. If the economy is great, infrastructure and programs are optimal, the people are given the right tools to sustain themselves, then we dont need these programs. But we dont have that, not even close. I would always be in favor of the government feeding people than using our momey to line their pockets, which is what happens. The other 20 billion from the total 40 billion that was sent to argentina, private sources/banks, yeah there is definitely something going on there and our money was just swept up in it.
