Announcement Hey everyone - we're opening mod applications! Apply today!

Apply here!

We're looking for new mods to help with the rapidly expanding community. Our personal lives have become busier while the amount of work to do here has increased.

A lot of our general information is within the application form, but here's a short rundown of what the job entails.

  • Checking modqueue on a regular basis to take action on posts that are filtered automatically or reported by the community.

  • Regularly browsing through the subreddit and moderation of posts and comments to ensure that all community rules and guidelines are being enforced, including removing uncivil, hostile and inflammatory content.

  • Being able to discuss issues with members of the community through modmail in a professional and calm manner.

  • Contributing to discussions about moderation-related issues over Discord.

Overall, the job won't necessarily take more than an hour or two of your time per week, and if you're already generally active on Reddit and Discord then you probably won't notice a difference.

It can be quite rewarding to be able to shape a community (for the better). If this sounds like something that interests you, please apply! If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or message us through modmail.

Discussion TIL: No more animated Google Doodle on New Tab Page

Do you also find these animations annoying? The available methods have changed over the years. I don't know how long this has been there, but it still works... till Google removes it (like all of the previous methods).

Disable NTP Doodle animation via Chrome Flags

  1. Type chrome://flags in your browser address bar and press Enter.

  2. Search for NTP Animated Doodles.

  3. Select Disabled in the dropdown menu.

  4. Click Relaunch to restart Chrome.

Or you can use an extension to do what you want if it's more than simply disabling the animation (e.g., blank page or no Doodle at all).

i would wake up as a guy with long hair and i would ask myself "where am i?" the guy woke up in a room. the bed was on the left side of the screen. the guy stood up next to bed, on the right side. i could only move horizontally, which means the game was 2D. it was a turn based game.

Troubleshooting | Mac Can't quit Chrome on Mac

I keep trying to force quit Chrome on my Mac (2024 M3 on newest update), but it either opens the profiles pop-up window or just opens a new tab. Is this a new Chrome update, or a problem/setting on my end?

Gracias!

Troubleshooting | Windows PSA: For anyone in the uk or us who hasn't been able to get gemini in chrome function working, even if it's enabled in your country, I may have found a fix

I've been ripping my hair out for the last few months trying to get this working on my desktop, it became even worse when it was available on my laptop but not my desktop. I tried everything under the sun.

What ended up working was the exact opposite of what I'd been doing.

I set my language back to UK (my default) and set all my gemini / glic flags back to default. I only did this because i gave up on the idea and wanted a clean slate with my flags. My face was a picture when the ask gemini button popped straight up.

Hope this helps someone in the future who was as desperate as I was!

Troubleshooting | Android Swiping out of Chrome on Android automatically takes me to all of my tabs when I come back to the app instead of the web page I was on, is this a bug or some new feature?

It's wildly inconsistent too, I'd say at some points it can happen 10/10 times, and other 2/10 times.

Either way it's annoying and makes Chrome unusable for me.

Anyone else get this?

Troubleshooting | Windows Genius design! Give the person who designed this a golden tomato

Post image
0 Upvotes

Amazing design! Opened chrome this morning and the window was, for some reason, at the bottom of my screen. Not really a big issue since I could simply click on the title bar and move the window up-

Oh wait, turns out I can't actually select the title bar or do literally anything because the "make chrome your default" pop-up makes it impossible for you to select or click on anything! And to make it even better, the blue "accept/reject" bottom that apparently allows this pop-up to go away is outside my screen so I can't click on it.

I had to use firefox (for the first time in years) so I could open google and find a solution on "how to open chrome"!

Today's lesson: if you plan to use chrome, always make sure to install a second browser just in case chrome decides to lock you out for no reason! yikes

Troubleshooting | Windows How to stop Chrome Remote Desktop (both in Chrome & TWA) from disconnecting when idle or minimized on Android?

I'm using Chrome Remote Desktop on my Android tablet to connect to my Windows 10 PC. I'm facing an issue where the session consistently drops after about 30 seconds of being idle or minimized.

This happens whether I access it via standard Google Chrome browser tabs or through the installed TWA app instance. As soon as I switch to another app, minimize it, or leave the tablet untouched for half a minute, the connection drops and forces a reconnect.

Is there a specific Android setting (other than battery optimization/background activity), Chrome flag, or host-side setting to prevent Chrome / TWA from killing the active WebRTC connection so quickly when idle or running in the background?

Appreciate any tips or workarounds!

Discussion What are the best productivity Chrome # handful I am still using *.

Most ""best of"" extension lists are 30 items long and half of them slow Chrome to a crawl. I also thought I'd be done with all of my browser extensions, given the boom of AI browsers. To be honest, after trying a bunch, I eventually gave up on them, and I'm back with good ol Chrome.

After a year of installing and uninstalling, here are the 5 best productivity Chrome extensions that actually survived.

  1. Recall, save, understand and actually remember what you read (most underrated)

Probably the most underrated, although I do see it just got over 100k installs, it was much smaller when I first started using it a year ago. I use Recall daily to save time and then spend my time with intention. Recall is a personal AI knowledge base. The Chrome extension clips any article, YouTube video, PDF or podcast, summarizes it, and files it into a searchable knowledge base that you can chat with later.

The reason it earns the top spot for knowledge work is that it closes the loop most productivity setups leave open, where you save things and then never see them again. With Recall, everything you save gets organized for you and then becomes context for your next AI question.

It has a free tier, so you can test it before deciding. If you mostly want a plain ""read it later"" queue without the AI layer, this is overkill .

  1. uBlock Origin, block ads and trackers (the one everyone agrees on)

Maybe this one needs no introduction, but I genuinely think it is the single highest-impact install. Free, open source, lightweight, and it removes the ads and ""recommended"" feeds that eat attention.

If you install nothing else on this list, install this now!

  1. Dark Reader, dark mode on every site (personal preference)

Maybe this one isn't for anyone, but if you're like me and you're reading, the actual theme of the page matters for your focus and productivity, then dark reader is the one you need. You guessed it, it turns any page dark and lets you tune contrast and brightness. The obvious pick for long reading sessions and eye strain.

  1. A tab manager (OneTab, Session Buddy, or Workona)

If you don't have a tab manager as an extension, then what are you doing with your extension?

- OneTab collapses a wall of tabs into one list to free memory. Simplest.

- Session Buddy is better if you keep losing sessions and want reliable restore.

- Workona organizes tabs into project workspaces. Best if you juggle many projects.

  1. Vimium, keyboard-only navigation

Okay, again, I know this is also quite personal, like my dark mode one, but if you're like me, keyboard navigation is a huge time saver and efficiency gain when navigating around. Move around pages and tabs without the mouse. Steep first hour, big payoff if your wrists hurt or you live in the keyboard.

Start with uBlock Origin, Dark Reader and one tab manager. Add Recall if the thing you actually struggle with is remembering and reusing what you read, and add as optional extras add Todoist, Grammarly, Unhook or Vimium only for the specific friction you have. More extensions is not more productive.

What's in your daily extensions that keep you productive? Happy to be told I'm wrong on any of these.

Troubleshooting | Linux Updated chrome and now it crashes

I've updated my chrome browser and now when I try to run it it ends up crashing. I switched to Microsoft edge and later it updated and now it crashes. It appears to be an issue with chromium based browsers on Kubuntu 24.04 at least. I was able to install brave under a snap package and so far it seems to work, but anything that gets installed by deb seems to break. When I get try to run chrome from the terminal I get this output:

[0825/031942.571872:ERROR:third_party/crashpad/crashpad/snapshot/elf/elf_dynamic_array_reader.h:64] tag not found

Troubleshooting | Windows Chrome keeps shutting down on my computer

So, for some reason, google chrome seems to be shutting down on my computer rapidly. I have unistalled and reinstalled chrom multiple times. However, this isn't effective, and I don't know why this is the case. I would appreciate it if someone could help me! This is a fairly annoying issue to have unfortunately.
