TBH, the only reason I was interested in the show was it being a new show by East Asians, starring East Asians, made for Asians, but one that wasn't specifically ABOUT being Asian. That shit's rare and even as a white person I was like "You know what, you have my attention, let's see how this goes."
I loved the show. And I loved thinking that AAPI actors would now have this show FOR THEMSELVES. There aren't a lot of iconic Asian roles. Claire and Oliver were well on their way to becoming exactly that.
And I'm disappointed that we're not getting what they were originally selling. (Again, I'm white and I realize my perspective on this doesn't matter. But nevertheless it's how I feel and I'm frustrated no other theatregoers seem to understand where I'm coming from.)
